Married the Sick Uncle – Just Waiting to Inherit His Fortune
Chapter 306: We Have No Home Anymore
"What did you say?" This time, it was Mrs. Sutton who spoke.
She never expected that Sean Sutton would be the one to bring up divorce.
Sean Sutton looked at her and said, "What’s wrong with a divorce? Anne wants us to get divorced too, doesn’t she?"
Anne Sutton had brought up the subject of divorce before.
But back then, the family’s financial situation was terrible, so he didn’t want to.
But now...
’Things have come to this, so let’s just get a divorce.’
He’d gotten the money anyway.
Anne Sutton said, "If you get a divorce, the assets have to be divided. Don’t think you can take everything for yourself."
He had sold the company and had cash on hand now!
Sean Sutton said, "I know! I’ll give half to your mother. Is that acceptable?"
He was surprisingly agreeable this time.
Although, upon hearing "half," Maya Evans was clearly displeased. "Why should she get half? You’re the one who worked hard all these years to earn money and raise the children! What does anything in this family have to do with her? She hasn’t done anything all day except stay at home."
Sean Sutton said, "There’s no other way. That’s what the law dictates. Even though I was the one who ran the company and earned the money."
"How ridiculous!" Anne Sutton retorted. "If she hadn’t married you, my mother wouldn’t have had to be a full-time housewife to raise us. She had a job. Do you think she couldn’t support herself? She gave you children, and every time you came home, she had to wait on you hand and foot. You don’t call that work? And now you say she’s done nothing? Then how did Sharon and I grow up? Even a nanny gets a salary!"
Maya Evans sneered, "What nanny earns over a billion by working their whole life?"
"..." Anne Sutton stared at her, wanting nothing more than to strangle the woman.
’To be a mistress and be so shamelessly self-righteous about it.’
Anne Sutton said, "He can abandon his wife of so many years for you, and he can abandon you too. Who do you think you are, someone important?"
Maya Evans said proudly, "Well, at least I gave Sean a son."
"Enough," Mrs. Sutton said. "Since you’ve all made up your minds, let’s just get a divorce."
She was utterly heartbroken!
If Sean Sutton hadn’t brought up divorce, she might have felt a little better.
But he just had to mention it...
He would rather split the assets than continue this marriage with her.
It made her feel like a complete joke.
Sean Sutton said, "Fine, let’s do it that way!"
Anne Sutton said, "I have an objection."
Sean Sutton looked at her. "Your Highness, what’s your objection now? Weren’t you the one who supported your mother and me getting a divorce?"
"This house. My mother and I are staying. You all are moving out. Make them pack their things and get out."
This house was the one thing Anne Sutton refused to compromise on.
It made her sick to her stomach seeing this family living here.
Yvonne Evans said, "You’re going too far!"
Ever since they were little, they had dreamed of living here.
And after staying here for the past few days, they felt everything was so much better than their current home.
They never thought Anne Sutton would actually make them move out!
Sean Sutton was very wary of Anne Sutton now.
Even though he no longer wanted this wife, he still wanted his daughter.
After all, Anne Sutton was very rich now!
When he got old, Anne Sutton would have to support him.
He spoke up, "Alright! Go pack your things. We’re moving out."
After saying that, he didn’t forget to try and curry favor with Anne Sutton. "Anne, you see? Dad is doing this for your sake. Otherwise... I bought this house, I wouldn’t be willing to move."
Anne Sutton looked at this man, finding it hard to believe he was actually her father.
’It’s a real shame you can’t choose who you’re born to...’
Only after seeing Yvonne Evans and her family leave did Anne Sutton lead her mother out the door.
She didn’t stay there, however.
The Evans family had left the place a mess and it needed to be cleaned. Anne Sutton took Sharon Sutton and her mother back to the Fawcett residence.
She had gotten used to living in this house of Nathan Fawcett’s.
No one was living here at the moment, so it was a good place for her to stay.
Anne Sutton sat to the side, watching her mother. She looked so heartbroken, and Anne wanted to say something but didn’t know how to start.
For her mother, this marriage represented an investment not just of her youth and time, but all of her energy and emotions.
Now that they were divorcing, it was as if everything she had was gone.
Anne Sutton said, "You should get some rest. Once the house is cleaned up, I’ll take you back home."
Mrs. Sutton looked at Anne Sutton and said, "I’ve troubled you."
Hearing her mother’s words, Anne Sutton smiled. "It’s what I should do. The most important thing now is your health. Mom, don’t overthink it. He’s just a man. Once the divorce is final and you’re feeling better, I’ll find you some handsome older men—the kind who are a hundred times more handsome than my dad."
"What are you talking about!"
"What’s wrong with talking about it?" Anne Sutton said. "What, you want to go back to how things were after the divorce? Spending your whole life revolving around that man? He’s not that great! There are plenty of men who are more handsome and more successful than him, and he doesn’t even treat you well! If someone doesn’t treat you right, you just tell them to get lost. Why are you still thinking about him?"
Mrs. Sutton’s eyes were red-rimmed. "I just feel like I’ve wasted all these years."
"How is it a waste?" Anne Sutton said. "You raised Sharon and me, and we’ll both be good to you. As for my dad... let him go raise his precious son!"
Mrs. Sutton said, "Anne, I’m so glad I have you."
She knew that Sharon’s personality was just like her own—not someone you could rely on.
Only Anne Sutton was much stronger.
Having her around made her feel much more at ease.
Anne Sutton said, "I’ll go check on Sharon, then. You get some rest. She doesn’t seem to be in a good mood either."
Anne Sutton came out of her mother’s room and saw Sharon Sutton sitting alone on the living room sofa, wiping away tears.
Anne Sutton asked, "Why are you crying too?"
Sharon Sutton said, "I’m just sad. We can’t go back. Sis, we don’t have a home anymore."
"What do you mean you don’t have a home? Aren’t you married? Where’s your husband!"
"He’s working overtime."
Anne Sutton looked at Sharon Sutton and said, "Don’t be sad! Mom and I are here, aren’t we? All that happened is a man who used to hit and yell at you is gone. What’s there to be sad about? We should be celebrating."
Sean Sutton was very strict and harsh with Sharon Sutton, and Sharon was a little afraid of her father.
’He always used to say that he was only strict with them because he loved them...’
’Looking back now, it was only because they weren’t the son he wanted!’
’Now that he has a son, he must be thrilled.’
Listening to Anne Sutton, Sharon Sutton said, "You have a point! Sis, this house is huge!"
Anne Sutton replied, "If you like it, you can stay here as long as you want."
The house was now in her name.
Nathan Fawcett had given her everything.
’He really isn’t stingy...’
After comforting Sharon Sutton, Anne Sutton finally went to bed.
Exhausted from the long day, she had just laid down on the bed when she saw a message from Nathan Fawcett: "Are you there? Text me back when you’re done."
The most recent one had been sent half an hour ago.
Anne Sutton pictured him holding his phone, looking anxious when he didn’t get a reply from her, and the corners of her lips curved into a smile.
