"I’m fine," Mrs. Sutton said. "But what about you? How are you doing?"

Mrs. Sutton had been quite worried when she’d suddenly run off to Veridia.

Other than Sean Sutton, no one else knew why Anne Sutton had gone to Veridia.

No one knew that Anne Sutton had a child.

Charles Prescott didn’t know either.

"I’m doing fine," Anne Sutton said.

Charles Prescott sat to one side, watching her. ’If it weren’t for her family problems,’ he thought, ’she probably wouldn’t have even come back for the holidays.’

...

As they were eating, Anne Sutton glanced at Henry Underwood and asked, "Did Charles Prescott have you come back?"

Henry Underwood looked embarrassed when Anne Sutton turned to him. He lowered his head and said, "I wanted to come back myself! I couldn’t handle the hardship at the branch office, so I begged President Prescott, and he let me return."

Of course, he wasn’t going to put all the blame on Charles Prescott.

It was true that Charles Prescott had brought him back, but Charles had only transferred him to the branch in the first place to silence gossip.

But he knew how to take the fall.

Anne Sutton looked at Charles Prescott. "You have a very loyal subordinate."

Hearing this, Charles Prescott said, "He knows he was wrong. Please, just be the bigger person and let the past go."

"You’ve already brought him back," Anne Sutton said. "It’s not like I have a choice in the matter if I disagree, is it?"

A classic case of acting first and asking for permission later.

Charles Prescott looked at Anne Sutton and said, "How are things between you and Ethan Linden lately?"

"Things are great," Anne Sutton said. "Thanks for your concern. I’ll be sure to send you some wedding candy when we get married."

Mrs. Sutton sat to one side, watching the two of them speak, unable to get a word in edgewise.

She knew that Ethan Linden was actually Nathan Fawcett, but she had no idea how they had gotten back together after their divorce.

After dinner, Charles Prescott walked them out.

He looked at Anne Sutton and asked, "Should I take you back to the Fawcett estate?"

"No," Anne Sutton said. "Let’s go to the Suttons’."

She glanced at her mother and Sharon Sutton. Since she was back, she wanted to go see what the situation at home was really like.

She had given her father a way out before because of the child, but that didn’t mean she would let him bully her mother.

The car stopped at the gate. Anne Sutton got out and helped her frail mother, while the pregnant Sharon Sutton followed behind them.

’With no one reliable in the house, it’s no wonder they were pushed around.’

Yvonne Evans was sitting on the sofa watching a talent show. Her younger brother, Dylan Evans, heard the car, glanced out the window, and ran back in a panic. "Sis, we’re screwed! That Anne Sutton is back!"

Hearing this, Yvonne Evans raised an eyebrow. "So what if she’s here? What’s there to be afraid of?"

"You don’t think she’ll cause trouble for us, do you?"

"This is our house now. What’s there to be scared of?"

Just then, there was a knock at the door.

Anne Sutton realized the lock on the door had been changed.

Now she had to knock just to get into her own house!

They...

’They’ve really gone too far!’

Yvonne Evans heard the knocking but didn’t move.

Henry Underwood, standing nearby, volunteered, "I’ll get it."

He walked over and quickly opened the door.

A digital keypad lock like that was much easier to bypass than a traditional one.

Yvonne Evans’s face paled when she saw them walk right in.

Anne Sutton walked in and saw Yvonne Evans on the sofa. Her expression darkened. "I thought no one was home. Turns out you’re just deaf."

Though she was scared to death, Yvonne Evans still retorted, "I was watching TV. I didn’t hear you."

"Where’s Sean Sutton?" Anne Sutton demanded.

At this, Yvonne Evans said angrily, "How can you call your father by his full name?"

"He’s your dad, not mine. I’m already being generous by just using his name."

As she spoke, Anne Sutton walked further inside, surveying everything in the house.

This place was once her home, the place where she grew up...

But now, everything had been defiled by those Evanses!

Seeing their belongings strewn all over the house, Anne Sutton was absolutely furious.

She turned to Henry Underwood and asked, "Where is my father?"

Henry Underwood replied, "He’s been contacted. He said he’s on his way and will be back shortly."

Dylan Evans stood to the side, watching Charles Prescott. He was still afraid of the man who had slapped him twice before, and he subconsciously covered his face.

Sharon Sutton came over to Anne Sutton and said, "They’ve made a complete mess of the house. But this is supposed to be our home."

Yvonne Evans retorted, "How is this just your house? I’m his daughter too! The deed is in his name, which means we have a right to inherit it as well."

"..." Sharon Sutton looked at the woman, absolutely furious.

Just then, Sean Sutton’s voice came from the doorway. "Anne."

Anne Sutton turned her head coldly to see Sean Sutton at the door, with Maya Evans at his side.

’Who knows where those two were off enjoying themselves.’

Sean Sutton had sold his company to the Fawcett Group, so he was actually more relaxed now.

When he saw Anne Sutton, he said, "My darling daughter, you’re back!"

Maya Evans, standing beside Sean Sutton, gave Anne Sutton a cold glance. The next second, a fawning smile spread across her face. "Anne, you’re back! Your father talks about you all the time."

"Talks about me?" Anne Sutton said. "From the looks of this house, I’d say there’s no place left for me here at all."

The more she thought about it, the angrier she became.

’Some things can never... never go back to the way they were.’

Sean Sutton looked at Anne Sutton and said, "What are you talking about? This will always be your home. You can always come back."

"Then what about my mother?" Anne Sutton demanded. "When you brought these people here, did you ever stop to think that this is where my mother lives?"

Sean Sutton glanced at Mrs. Sutton, whose complexion was pale since she had just been discharged from the hospital.

Sean Sutton said, "I tried to visit her before, but I couldn’t see her, and she didn’t come back home. I thought you had already moved her out."

"Are you really that clueless, or just pretending to be?" Anne Sutton shot back. "My mother was in the hospital recovering. How convenient for you!"

"I didn’t want this either!" Sean Sutton said. "But you all can’t stand the sight of me, can you? I was afraid of disturbing her recovery, so I didn’t bother her. By the way, how was your trip to Westhaven? How are things going with Na... with Ethan Linden?"

He brought it up deliberately.

Anne Sutton glanced at Charles Prescott and Henry Underwood, who were standing nearby. She knew Sean Sutton was trying to leverage her secret.

Anne Sutton said, "Things are great between us! We’re planning to get married."

"Really?" Sean Sutton said. "That’s wonderful! Once you marry into the Linden family, your life will be even better. As your father, I’ll get to bask in your good fortune."

"You... worthy?" Anne Sutton scoffed. "As far as I’m concerned, I stopped having a father a long time ago."

"You ungrateful child..." Sean Sutton started.

Anne Sutton helped her mother sit down. "Don’t change the subject. First, let’s get things straight about this house."

Sean Sutton glanced at Anne Sutton and said, "I’ve already made up my mind. I’m going to divorce your mother."
