Chapter 1397: Silent Companionship [3]

The car wouldn’t start, it broke down. Jose Floyd opened the car door and got out to check it. Realizing that it couldn’t be fixed at the moment, an extremely angry Jose Floyd gave the car a hard kick and leaned against the hood, his eyes cold and deep in thought.

The rain showed no sign of letting up, drenching Jose Floyd completely, the rainwater pouring down on him, chilling him to the bone.

Stuart Floyd was actually his biological father!

So all those times in Italy, which he thought were warm and cozy, were actually an act by the Floyd Family, disguised and deceptive! Stuart Floyd, could he really claim he didn’t know his identity?

And what about Nicole, did she know? Did she know he was Stuart Floyd’s son?

Nicole was Stuart Floyd’s goddaughter, and that’s the connection that allowed him to stay at the Floyd Family for a period. Was all this really just a coincidence?

When Nicole arrived, she saw Jose Floyd leaning against the front of the car, standing in the heavy rain. His back appeared somewhat cold and lonely, making her feel a bit of heartache.

Nicole gently parked her car. Seeing her unworn fluffy slippers on the passenger seat, she bit her lip, grabbed the umbrella from the passenger seat, and got out of the car barefoot.

Nicole walked barefoot toward Jose Floyd, the raindrops making a dripping sound on the umbrella above her head, her toes feeling the bone-chilling coldness of the rainwater.

Nicole approached him with the umbrella and held it over Jose Floyd’s head, remaining silent.

The rainwater above him suddenly stopped falling. A familiar, fresh scent reached his nose; Jose Floyd’s eyebrows moved slightly, yet he maintained his cold demeanor without turning back.

He knew it was her, only she would dare approach him when he was angry, unafraid of getting caught in the line of fire.

The umbrella was small, making it a bit of a squeeze for two people. Nicole looked at the thoroughly drenched Jose Floyd as the rainwater slid down his cheeks, and she quietly tilted the umbrella more toward him, leaving most of her body uncovered.

They stood silently in the rain for over half an hour. Nicole’s entire body was soaked, but the coldest part was her feet, steeped in rainwater, chilling her to the bone.

In those days, he had been good to her, and now it was her turn to silently stay by his side.

Perhaps her body shivered quite violently; only then did the corner of Jose Floyd’s eye catch this and he slowly turned to look at Nicole.

Suddenly, emotions surged in his eyes as he glared at Nicole and yelled, "What are you doing?!"

The rainy days in late autumn in City C were very cold. Nicole had come out in just a cotton pajama set, barefoot, with the umbrella completely tilted over his head, and now her body was already soaked.

Nicole ignored her own state, bit her lip, and said softly to Jose Floyd, "No one’s life can be perfect. Jose Floyd, you’ve already got so much, and your background... it’s something you can’t choose or change. You really shouldn’t care too much about it."

"You know I’m actually Stuart Floyd’s son..."

Facing Jose Floyd’s sharp gaze, Nicole softly responded, "I just found out today."

Jose Floyd said nothing, turning his head to look out at the rain curtain ahead, the corners of his brow exuding a chilling indifference.

"Jose Floyd, are you going to let these things break you? This really isn’t the Jose Floyd I know. Everyone has a background... even if you actually are Stuart Floyd’s son, so what? Jose Floyd, don’t forget, you’re not the only one with a background."

Nicole held the umbrella over his head, accompanying him as they leaned against the hood, standing side by side. "I lived with my mom in Southriver Village from a very young age. Until I was sixteen, I didn’t even know who my father was. Growing up, while others had fathers, Wade and I did not, and we didn’t know how many times we were ridiculed by our schoolmates."
