Chapter 2213: Chapter 2213: Verbal Truth (34)

Fei Jiang messed around for a while, but when he saw Chuzheng’s expression getting colder and colder, he hurriedly pulled back his "powers," wrapped his arms around her and fell quiet.

Streams of colorful light slid past the car windows, and the boundless Night Color outside no longer looked empty and lonely.

The car entered a busy district and got stuck in traffic, the kind where they couldn’t move even half a meter in several minutes.

Fei Jiang stared at the sidewalk outside, then suddenly let go of Chuzheng: "Wait for me here." He pushed the car door open and got out.

Chuzheng wondered what Fei Jiang was going to do, but she was sitting on the other side, with the driver in front, so it wasn’t easy for her to openly crane her neck and look.

Two minutes later, Fei Jiang came back to the car.

He was holding a skewer of candied hawthorn and a balloon.

"What are you doing?"

Fei Jiang raised his brows and smiled lightly: "If other little kids have it, of course my little kid has to have it too."

Chuzheng: "??" Who are you calling a little kid! Planning to not get out of bed tonight, is that it!

Fei Jiang jerked his chin toward the window. On the sidewalk, young couples were snuggled up together. The girl was holding a cute cartoon balloon and candied hawthorn, smiling as she chatted with the boy beside her.

Chuzheng looked thoughtful.

Fei Jiang looped the balloon string around Chuzheng’s finger, then peeled off the wrapping on the candied hawthorn.

"Aaah—"

"Not eating." Chuzheng refused.

Only kids eat that!

I’m not eating!

Fei Jiang: "..."

Fei Jiang, thwarted right out of the gate, did not give up.

"Just try one."

Chuzheng shook her head firmly.

Fei Jiang tried all sorts of tricks, short of actually acting cutesy, but Chuzheng held her ground and didn’t waver.

"If you eat it, tonight I can..." Fei Jiang leaned in close to her ear and murmured a couple of words.

Chuzheng slanted a glance at him from the corner of her eye, and finally opened her mouth to take a bite.

She had just bitten into the hawthorn when Fei Jiang suddenly leaned in to kiss her, the sour-sweet taste blooming between them.

For the whole skewer of candied hawthorn, Chuzheng probably didn’t even eat one piece; Fei Jiang swept away the rest.

He was just too embarrassed to eat it himself, doing it on purpose, wasn’t he?

The car slowly started moving, and out of the corner of her eye, Chuzheng saw a couple horsing around as they passed by on the sidewalk. Their balloon slipped from their hands and drifted up into the night sky.

-

The Chief Steward finished the morning preparations and glanced at the time: "Sir and Miss Mo still haven’t gotten up?"

"No."

The Chief Steward thought for a moment, and had just started toward the stairs when his own sir came down, yawning.

Fei Jiang’s hair was a mess, completely ignored, and the corners of his eyes were slightly red.

"Sir, did you not rest well?" the Chief Steward asked considerately. "Your eyes are a bit swollen, do you need me to put a compress on them for you?"

Fei Jiang rubbed his fingertip along the corner of his eye: "Swollen?"

The Chief Steward nodded.

Very obvious.

Fei Jiang had the Chief Steward bring him a mirror.

He held the mirror up and took a look, then suddenly flopped down onto the table: "I’m not going to the company today."

"But sir, you have an important..."

The Chief Steward seemed to think of something and didn’t finish: "Understood, sir."

He stood to the side with a look like he wanted to speak but didn’t.

"Anything else?"

"..."

"Nothing." The Chief Steward sighed inwardly. Today...

The Chief Steward turned to inform the assistant, and the maids began bringing breakfast in one after another.

Fei Jiang put down the mirror and had someone find him a pair of dark sunglasses. Only then did he start eating.

Chuzheng came downstairs and walked right into this scene.

The man was in loungewear, hair sticking up everywhere, wearing big bug-eye shades while eating breakfast—he looked exactly like a nutcase.

Chuzheng reached out to feel his forehead.

No fever...

"What are you doing." Fei Jiang’s voice was lazy, the ending drawn out, strangely seductive.

"Why are you wearing sunglasses first thing in the morning?"

Fei Jiang hooked the sunglasses down a bit with his fingertip to show Chuzheng his eyes.

Chuzheng silently pushed the sunglasses back up for him.

The Chief Steward appeared like a ghost, setting down a bowl of something that didn’t look very appetizing.

The bowl landed right between Chuzheng and Fei Jiang, and both of them looked at each other.

The Chief Steward nudged the bowl closer to Fei Jiang.

Chuzheng lowered her head and went back to eating.

"What’s this?"

The Chief Steward: "Sir, it’s for replenishing qi and nourishing the blood."

"..."

What does he need to "replenish"? He’s in excellent health!

Fei Jiang glanced over at Chuzheng; she quietly clenched her fists and, expressionless, made a little "you can do it" gesture.

"..."

The Chief Steward did not think Fei Jiang was in excellent health. Ever since Miss Mo moved in, the Chief Steward had been even more worried.

"Sir, it’s not hard to drink, it’s sweet," the Chief Steward said, well aware of what kind of person his sir was.

Fei Jiang snapped, "I’m not drinking it, there’s nothing wrong with my body!"

"I’m finished." Chuzheng set down her knife and fork and got up to go straight out to the garden.

As soon as Chuzheng left, Fei Jiang nearly flipped the table: "You did this on purpose, didn’t you!"

"Sir, even if you won’t consider yourself, you should at least consider Miss Mo, shouldn’t you?" The Chief Steward kept his head lowered, very respectful.

"..."

Fei Jiang turned to look out the window.

It happened to overlook the garden. Chuzheng was standing among the flowerbeds, seemingly on the phone.

The morning light traced out the girl’s graceful curves, like she was wrapped in a soft glow.

The swaying flower branches had all become her backdrop.

-

After Chuzheng hung up, she looked back to see Fei Jiang leaving the table with his hands on his head, apparently annoyed by the Chief Steward’s nagging.

That bowl was still on the table.

She was too far to tell whether anything was left inside.

Fei Jiang didn’t go to the company and was working in the study instead, while Chuzheng sat beside him reading.

Every so often, Fei Jiang would make some kind of noise, just to get Chuzheng to look at him.

Whenever she did, Fei Jiang’s face would light up in a smile. He wouldn’t say anything, like he was just smiling at her for the sake of it.

Chuzheng: "..."

Lunatic.

But every time, she still turned her head to look at him.

When Fei Jiang finished dealing with his files, he went to the window and stretched, then suddenly froze halfway through.

Fei Jiang turned his head, pointing outside: "What are they doing?"

Right outside the study was the garden, and people were coming and going inside it. Balloons were tied all along the flowerbed fences, blown by the wind so they all leaned to one side.

Chuzheng didn’t even look up: "It’s for you."

"For me?"

"Mm."

"Why for me?"

"If other little kids have it, my little kid has to have it too." Chuzheng repeated the line he’d used.

Fei Jiang: "..."

Fei Jiang scurried downstairs, casually grabbed a balloon, and found there was something inside it that jingled when it moved.

He checked more carefully; inside was a little golden bell.

He went to look at a few more balloons. They weren’t all bells—there were other things too.

When the wind blew, the whole garden filled with the sound of bells, the clear chimes drifting lazily up toward the sky.

"President Fei, are you throwing a party or something?" Chu Zhaoying popped up from outside the half-height fence.

Fei Jiang was not particularly pleased to see Chu Zhaoying: "What are you doing here?"

Completely oblivious, Chu Zhaoying didn’t care that he was wearing some very expensive designer couture; he just climbed over the fence.

Fei Jiang’s eyes narrowed slightly.

The Fei Family estate covered a huge area, and the anti-theft walls were all the way on the outer perimeter, so the main house and other villas only had symbolic fences around them.

Having climbed over, Chu Zhaoying dangled a small box in his hand: "Here, I put aside a beauty to come over, so we’ve at least got to chat for a bit, right?"
