Chapter 2173: Chapter 2173: Mr. Zombie (32)

Chuzheng let him fuss for a while, went to the car to get some food, and fed him.

Bei Chi always disliked these foods, eating them as if his parents had died.

But when Chuzheng ate, he would come over and snatch it.

It seemed like the food she ate tasted better.

Chuzheng couldn’t figure out what his problem was, though she knew if Bei Chi didn’t want to eat something, she could feed it to him indirectly.

Even if he hated it, he wouldn’t spit it out, he’d chew it a couple of times and swallow it.

After eating, Bei Chi lay in Chuzheng’s arms and began to rest.

Chuzheng: "..."

Eat and sleep, might as well be raising a pig.

Chuzheng found something to cover him and looked up at the sky.

The golden sunlight spilled down, the whole world seemed to be coated with a layer of golden radiant halo.

The wilderness was silent, wild grasses rippling with waves.

Chuzheng lowered her head to glance at Bei Chi, her fingertips tracing his outline.

In the depths of her eyes, there was an imperceptible softness.

In her memory, what needed to be learned was how to maintain Wenxian Road and resolve those unknown creatures.

— You don’t need too much emotion, because everyone will die, and you won’t, emotions will become your bondage.

Emotions will become your bondage.

Chuzheng’s fingertips pressed against Bei Chi’s brow, softly murmuring: "Are you?"

Only the sound of the wind passed through the surroundings, no one could respond to her.

-

"Boss, you’ve finally returned." Zhi Kai greeted anxiously.

"What’s the matter?"

"A bunch of zombies were sent over from the base, quite a number, they’ve been herded into the sports arena and locked up."

The sports arena is spacious, with reinforcements around, plus the zombies guarding, trapping them isn’t difficult.

However, the zombies inside were causing quite a commotion, these zombies were rebellious, Zhi Kai was worried something would happen, hence the hurry.

Chuzheng went over to take a look, two groups of zombies seemed to be arguing, the roof of the sports arena was almost torn off.

Chuzheng appeared, the group guarding instantly quieted down.

The locked-up group roared even louder.

Chuzheng took off her jacket and walked down, Zhi Kai covered his face, unable to bear to watch.

Boss is just about to deal with it.

After dealing with this wave of zombies, there’s another critical issue—supplies.

"Boss, the things we’re growing now all contain viruses, they can’t be consumed at all."

The rain contains viruses, the soil too.

Anything grown naturally cannot be eaten.

"I heard someone at the base is researching vaccines, not sure if it can succeed," Zhi Kai added.

The backdrop of this world is the apocalypse, how could a vaccine possibly succeed so quickly?

Chuzheng pondered for a while, then said: "Zombies eating virus-containing food shouldn’t be a problem, right?"

Zhi Kai: "..."

Seems reasonable...

Zombies already have viruses in their bodies, eating a bit more seems not too big a deal.

Didn’t those zombies at the water plant revel in the rain?

Maybe it’s poison against poison?

As long as the virus isn’t considered a problem, growing crops would be far easier.

Chuzheng instructed Zhi Kai to experiment.

While Chuzheng was testing if zombies could eat virus-laden foods, the base was focused on research.

Even if it can’t completely solve the virus, there needs to be a countermeasure.

The most pressing issues of water and food need resolution.

If zombies continue to exist, the current supplies can’t sustain their consumption indefinitely, growing crops is necessary to ensure humans can survive.

Unfortunately, their progress wasn’t smooth.

"Base Leader, today’s water level dropped again."

Behind the base, there’s a water source not infected, regretfully it can be directly consumed.

Yet, during this period, the water level kept dropping.

The Base Leader had a headache: "Have you found other sources?"

"There are many, all infected..."

Just one infected person or animal thrown into the source would infect the whole stream.

"How’s the lab doing?"

"No progress."

The Base Leader’s hair had turned significantly grayer in just a few days, as the declining water levels forced the base to reduce consumption again and again.

The base’s people were distressed.

"Is the base’s water running out?"

"Without water, how can we survive..."

"Isn’t that right... Hey, what’s that over there?"

Someone atop the defense wall pointed to the distance, the streetlights on the highway gradually lit up.

Electricity in the base was insufficient, rationed in shifts; streetlighting wasn’t even considered.

Moreover, at night, it easily attracts zombies.

But why were those lights on?

This situation was reported upward, the Base Leader came over with others to observe.

The Base Leader frowned: "What’s happening?"

"Dunno, suddenly brightened."

Xia Li also received the news and hurried over.

"This area was declared a tourist zone not long ago, those streetlights were newly installed before the virus outbreak, powered probably by the city’s hydroelectric plant..."

Now that city is Chuzheng’s territory.

So did she make the hydroelectric plant function again?

"You take some people to check it out." The Base Leader instructed Xia Li: "Be careful."

Xia Li took people and left the base, headed towards the city.

Not even entering the city, they could see from afar the whole city was brightly lit, as if reverted to pre-apocalypse.

Xia Li and they dared not get too close, zombies were right outside the city, without prior notified escorts, they’d be attacked by these zombies.

-

Chuzheng expended considerable effort to get the hydroelectric plant running again.

After all, there were no people here, only zombies.

Zombies were difficult to control, fortunately, there were still many employees at the hydroelectric plant, relying on their muscle memory and Chuzheng’s violent suppression, they managed to get the plant operational.

However...

Power outages occurred from time to time.

Guess those zombies were up to mischief: like fighting or slacking off.

Most places had electricity, but some still needed human repairs.

What to do when there are no people?

Borrow!

Chuzheng, bringing the Zombie Horde, went to the base to borrow people.

The Base Leader: "..."

Are you borrowing people or taking them by force?

Chuzheng presented a whole crate of gold: I really am borrowing, I’m a good person.

What could the Base Leader do? Refusing to lend people might result in her zombies flattening the base?

"Miss Ji, I have a question to discuss." The Base Leader stopped Chuzheng, who was about to leave.

"?"

"Have you considered the future, Miss Ji?" The Base Leader asked her.

Chuzheng did not answer.

The Base Leader paused, then continued: "I see that those around Miss Ji are humans, they need clean food and water sources."

"So?" Are you going to provide me with food and water?

"Existing food and water sources will eventually be exhausted, Miss Ji should understand this."

Chuzheng showed no indication.

The Base Leader: "To be honest, our base has a lab and is researching these issues."

Chuzheng listened for a while without hearing the main point: "So what exactly do you want to say?"
