Chapter 460 – Spit in My Mouth, Darling

Ananke cursed. [By the Abyss...]

Tysche fell into a pondering silence. And Marvela herself said nothing, only watching and listening, knowing this was something she had never thought possible.

The Origin Store was a matter, a concept, she hadn’t even been aware of to begin with. Now she realized how ridiculous it was, and how much of an advantage her Blessed had.

An advantage only fitting, after having the whole Hero Path against him because of his bloodline.

But that advantage could also be a terrible danger, one that could kill him.

And here and now, Marvela, the Sleeping Beauty, was witnessing another concrete example of why opportunity and danger went hand in hand.

Scarlet felt the same, yet completely differently. Just like the goddesses, her eyes were transfixed on the last item, the Meeting in the Sun; it was worthy of her full attention.

Just now, she had been wondering how to gain a better understanding of the concept of the Sun. And here was a proposal, an opportunity, to witness and be that very sun.

However, the downside was death, even for her.

She would be stepping into the territory of an Error, a being who could kill her if that White Phoenix so wished.

Were the benefits worth the danger? Doubtlessly. But would she tell the descendant of Amate to dive headfirst into that very danger?

She couldn’t, and she wouldn’t even if she could. Yet Scarlet knew with certainty...

’I don’t even need to,’ she thought, looking at Cassius, whose face held an excited but worried expression.

[Cassius, think before you decide anything. This is an Error. If you decide to go and something bad happens, we will be unable to help you. Don’t forget we spent much of our GeumGeum during your Wedding.] Ananke warned. [Don’t be a reckless fool.]

"I am not being reckless, Queen," he said, shaking his head softly. "I know very well the danger—!"

[No, you don’t.]

"Alright. Maybe. But still, don’t forget that I am going into the Wastelands. I might not be able to rank up for now, because the Fractured Land only accepts Rank Two beings and lower, but I will reach the very limit of my power, and might even gain some understanding of my Sun Path," he said, his face serious. "And I will also get the chance to at least ask about the deductions I made after learning about Inara."

[What tells you she will answer your questions?] Ananke continued. [And the last time she met you, did you forget, Cassius? She didn’t hide the fact that she preferred Emrys over you.]

"There must be a reason for that. I want to know why."

[What if there is no reason at all? What if... the White Phoenix you thought you knew is no more? That’s a wide gap in understanding that could cost you dearly.]

"Then it’s still better to know now and adapt to the change," Cassius replied stubbornly. "I know it’s dangerous, Queen. But the fact is, it will always be dangerous. We are talking about an Error, after all."

Ananke didn’t reply.

She sighed wearily under her breath and looked at Tysche and Marvela, who were in her Gate of Fate and Secrecy at that point. Both of them shrugged, knowing well that Cassius would not change his mind.

And if she insisted, he might feel wronged, and that could potentially strain their relationship in some way.

Yet wasn’t that better than losing him?

Ananke didn’t care about the grand purpose Cassius was meant to achieve. Not as much as she cared about the person himself.

She didn’t want Cassius to die, or to end up in a state close to it. That would break her.

The Last Born also knew his delicate situation. He was aware that his life affected the lives of others, so he reined in his feelings and said,

"But I won’t do it if you don’t want me to," he said in a low tone. "After all, if I die, Ananke and Tysche might very well die too. I don’t want to risk your lives without your consent."

Cassius then looked at Isolde, still sleeping, and smiled. "And I’d better get my wife’s consent first too."

[If you want to, and if you think you are ready, then go on.] Tysche said, making Ananke glare at her.

She shrugged innocently. Tysche was unable to say no to Cassius if he insisted enough.

A bad habit, but she couldn’t help it.

Ananke sighed again, thought about the whole situation, and replied, [Let’s hope the Ticket doesn’t fail you. If it does, then we’d better have a plan to retrieve you from the Sun.]

[I remember that your master forbade you from getting any closer to the White Phoenix after she saved you from her Mark.] Marvela pointed out something Cassius had completely forgotten. [And now you want to meet her in her own Territory? Wow, darling. I don’t want to know what that dragon will do to you if she finds out.]

"But she won’t find out, right?" Cassius’s lips twitched.

[With your two Fates linked?] Ananke scoffed. [She will know the instant you step into that Sun.]

"She seems to be able to stand against the Error in some way," he deduced. "Maybe she could be a way for me to come back alive?"

[...]

The goddesses stared blankly at Cassius, who was ready to use his Fate Link to make his master save him after purposely disobeying her. Not knowing what to say, and aware that Cassius would go regardless, they fell silent.

They felt only one thing: hope that nothing would go wrong.

Cassius chuckled dryly, feeling bad for causing so many problems for his goddesses and his master. But he needed the experience of being in the Sun to get stronger, and to have at least some of his questions answered.

’I am sorry,’ he said. ’I will be okay, I promise. The System won’t dare to kill its favorite Villain, will it?’

[Putting your trust in the System now?] Ananke said with dissatisfaction.

’...Fair enough.’

She clicked her tongue.

Cassius then laughed dryly before finally looking at the other two items. The first one was quite interesting, but equally dangerous.

And at that precise moment, he truly didn’t want another target on his back. He had enough of those already.

However, he would not miss the opportunity to get a BloodCore like this.

It could be useful.

So Cassius bought all three items, the second one being something that would make William willing to join their Sect.

After the purchase, the items arrived swiftly through the Golden Realm, just as Isolde opened her purple eyes.

And she opened them to see Cassius with three boxes emitting stunning auras.

She yawned, rubbed her eyes, and lifted herself from his lap, sitting beside him.

"Are you done now?" Isolde asked sleepily, looking at the items. "Let me see what you got today. Oh! This reminds me that I also have some spoils from killing those Crimson Daggers. I have a White Egg, a big one."

The Soundless Slayer tilted her head, now wondering what was inside that Egg. She had a feeling it was not just some random thing.

"I will leave the two items with you, if you wish. And I will look at your Egg after I come back," Cassius said.

"Come back?" Isolde immediately narrowed her eyes, confused. "From where?"

He pointed his finger upward and opened the third box, where a ticket stamped with a symbol of the sun lay. "From the Sun, darling."

"What?" Isolde exclaimed, looking at him, then at the ticket. Her eyes widened in realization. "No, don’t tell me...?"

"Yes, this ticket will give me the opportunity to go to the sun," he said, and before Isolde could complain, "And yes, it will be dangerous. But I can’t miss this opportunity, Isolde."

He stared at her seriously. "I need to go."

"You want to go," Isolde corrected. "You don’t need to."

"I need more power."

"You just said it was dangerous."

"You, more than anyone, must understand that power and danger go hand in hand," Cassius replied. "How do you think you obtained your current power? By being afraid of danger?"

"This is not fair, Cass," Isolde said, annoyed. "I know all of that, but knowing doesn’t mean I am not worried about what could happen to you. You are going into the Sun, bastard! Into the Sun itself!"

"For three minutes only."

"That’s something many people wouldn’t even dare to think about," Isolde retorted. Then, staring into his eyes, she sighed. "I know those eyes. You are determined to go."

"I am."

"Then open your mouth."

"Hm?" Cassius exclaimed, confused at first.

"I said open your mouth," Isolde repeated. Then, impatient, she grasped his mouth herself and pried it open.

Next, her tongue slithering out, she used her Blessing and created a stream of liquid, purple and black in color and dense with essence, that flowed into his mouth.

Oddly, it looked like she was spitting into his mouth.

Cassius’s eyes widened slightly, feeling the liquid enter him and a strange connection with Isolde forming.

"This is my Blessing used as a mark," she said, looking at him, their mouths still parted. "If it comes down to it, I will drag you into another realm with me to save you from the Sun."

Her words surprised all the goddesses, and even Scarlet.

They truly hadn’t thought of that. Mainly because they still struggled to remember the incredible power Isolde now had.

And even though it was true that Isolde was still too weak to achieve it without fail, what if they supported her with their GeumGeum to pull Cassius away?

That... that could actually work.

"I am falling even harder in love, darling," Cassius said with a heart-shattering smile.

Isolde’s heart raced at his beauty, and she kissed him. "Don’t do anything reckless, Cass."

"I never do anything reckless."

"Don’t make me slap you for your obvious lies."

"Hahah." He chuckled. "But tell me, Isolde, was it necessary for you to... spit in my mouth?"

Isolde grinned and licked her lips. "What do you think?"

Cassius’s lips twitched. "Fucking pervert."

"Says the man who fucked my—!"

"Okay, thank you." Cassius cut her off with a kiss. Then, jokingly, he pushed her away, making Isolde tumble off the bed and onto the floor.

Before she could get back on her feet, Cassius grasped the Ticket, activated it, and disappeared from the hotel room in a burst of fire.

Cassius Desdemona went to the Sun.

"Damn husband!"
