Chapter 458 – LET’S FUCKING RIDE BABYYYY!!!

Time passed.

The sun crawled back to somewhere no one could see, and the moon graced the sky of Sunu Gaal. It was a beautiful silvery moon, upon which many people took the time to gaze, thinking of things that had the ugly habit of resurfacing only when the world went quiet.

Natalia was one of them, much to her distaste.

She wore a lovely sleeveless green cotton robe that reached just below her knees.

Her mirror-like eyes were fixed on the moon overhead, on its silver glow tenderly bathing the world, and bathing her too, making her eyes glitter mysteriously.

In that instant, alone and one with the breezy wind ruffling her robe, Natalia couldn’t help but think, for the nth time, about her embarrassing display of weakness in front of Lucian, the very brother of one of her closest friends, who was also the man she loved.

Days had passed since then, and she still couldn’t get over it.

She wanted to explain herself, to tell him that she was not such a weak woman, and that he should forget everything she had said.

But Natalia always found herself too weak, and too ashamed, to contact him again.

So here she was, on the balcony of the hotel room she had taken in Vorn City, unwilling to go back home just yet, looking at her phone.

On the screen was a contact named Lucian. A number she had managed to get during the wedding.

Better not ask her why she had asked for it. She didn’t know, and didn’t want to know.

Still,

"Don’t tell me I have been influenced by what Isolde and Keisha told me?" she exclaimed, clapping her free hand over her mouth. "No! I can’t be that easy to persuade. No way! And Lucian is Cassius’s brother. How could I do that? What would people think of me?"

She shook her head wildly, unwilling to even entertain the thought.

Even so, it was weird.

She had never considered, not even once, any man other than Cassius. So why, ever since Isolde and Keisha had mentioned Lucian, had she been imagining that possibility?

What was different?

"Argh," she groaned, wanting to bash her head against the wall so she could lose her memory of that time. "This is so annoying. I’d better delete his contact and forget about him. We won’t see each other again any time soon anyway. He lives in a different world, and he is always with that scary Lilien. Argh. I am still afraid of her, even though I am older now."

Lilien Desdemona had always been scary. Natalia remembered one time when Lilien had beaten her because she had accidentally hurt Cassius during a game.

Then she had threatened her never to tell anyone.

Natalia had been 4 at the time. The trauma was still there.

Better not get close to that woman’s twin.

Having made her decision, Natalia sighed and turned off her phone. She lifted her head, stared at the moon, and sighed again.

Suddenly, she wanted to smoke, just to forget for a moment.

"Let’s sleep," she whispered, turning to go back into her room. "I will go with Keisha to her family so she can say goodbye to her father, and then go back to the Academy on Monday or Tuesday. The Wastelands are approaching. I must be ready."

Natalia went back into the room and closed the door leading to the balcony. And just as she was about to strip naked, since she couldn’t sleep with clothes on, her phone rang.

She froze in the middle of taking off her bra. Her heart pounding for no reason, she quickly took it off, freeing her breasts, and hastily looked at her phone.

The new notification flared brightly on her screen. It was a message.

A message from Lucian.

’Vorn take me...’

She opened it with uncharacteristic nervousness and read it:

<Just checking in to make sure you didn’t suddenly find the rope very appealing around your neck. Trust me, it won’t be. Haha!>

Natalia’s face flushed crimson as she immediately replied, her fingers flying across the screen.

<Forget about it! Forget about everything! I never said anything to you!>

’Vorn’s cursed eyes, this is so embarrassing,’ Natalia thought, squatting down nervously, hoping Lucian would be sensible like Cassius and drop the matter.

But Lucian was not Cassius. And he had his own way of being sensible.

His next message made Natalia want to punch him in the face.

<What? Are you the type to use a man and act like nothing happened? I am... so tearfully pained. I feel like telling Lilien, who is asking me who I’m talking to right now – careful, my twin is quite protective of me – all the things you said. Like... hm... how you said that our cute youngest was your... please finish the sentence!>

Natalia was trembling. "This bastard!" she said through gritted teeth. Suddenly, all the reservation and embarrassment she might have felt talking to him disappeared.

And with that, the heiress of the Glassscion replied with biting honesty:

<If you dare say anything to that witch of a sister of yours, I will find you, and you will regret it! Don’t you dare say anything, Lucian! This was between you and me.>

His answer came fast.

<Haha. Bye, Nat. Don’t touch the rope.>

Natalia replied with ’Vorn take you,’ and Lucian didn’t reply again. She stared at her phone for a long while, maybe expecting an answer or something else, but nothing came.

She sighed, stood back up, stripped off her clothes, and jumped onto her bed as if diving into water.

"These damn Desdemonas..." she mumbled, her face pressed against the pillow, covering herself with the blanket. "Why are they so... Vorn take me."

And yet, despite all her complaints, she fell asleep with a faint smile.

...

"Talking to a girl now, brother?" Lilien said, staring at her twin with a raised eyebrow. "I am offended."

The two siblings were standing in complete shadow, their very bodies shrouded by it.

The moon shone brightly overhead, yet it couldn’t seem to bathe the twins in its silvery light.

"Come on, sister," Lucian smiled. "Playing the jealous sister with me doesn’t suit you. Let’s focus on our hunt, shall we?"

"Brother, Cassius might be cute and everyone’s favorite. But," Lilien looked at him seriously, her black eyes blacker than the night around them, "you are my twin. You have been with me since I first opened my eyes, and you have never left my side since then, no matter what I have done. I don’t need to tell you this for you to know it, but you are more precious to me, despite everything."

Lucian cocked his head. "Are you worried I will leave you alone if I find a woman?"

"Yes," Lilien said flatly. "We can stay together and wander the world together, brother. We have always been together. We don’t need to change that."

Lucian stared at her, arching an eyebrow, then laughed and wrapped his right arm around her shoulders. "You are my twin, Lilien. And you are my favorite too. I will not leave you until you find a man who can put up with your terrible, impatient personality."

"No such man exists. Except you, Cassius and father."

"They do exist," Lucian said, flicking Lilien’s forehead, making her pout at him with cold, indifferent eyes. "You just need to be willing. Stop closing your heart to everyone but us."

Lilien narrowed her eyes at him. "You have a girl, I am sure of it now. Tell me who she is."

"I don’t."

"You can’t hide it from me. I know you better than I know myself."

"That’s quite concerning, sister. You truly have no life."

"Lucian, I will beat you."

"And I will let you," he chuckled. "But first, our prey is escaping. We need the man to enter the Holy Empire of Nuur, remember?"

She glared at him, hmphed, pushed him away, and stared at the wide, dark forest in front of her. "If I kill him in one strike, you tell me her name."

"Ah, don’t kill him," Lucian grinned. "Just cut off both his legs. I am pretty sure he will talk after I gently explain to the good man how delighted monsters would be to meet his wife and two children. Hungry monsters. Shadow monsters."

"Oh," Lilien exclaimed, grinning like her twin. "Sounds more fun. So, you in, brother?"

Lucian’s body began to transform into shadows.

"Like always, sister."

The Twin Monsters swallowed the shadows in the forest, and struck.

...

The Moon inevitably surrendered to the sun, announcing a bright new day.

It was Saturday. And maybe it was because he had missed so many Saturdays without checking in, but Cassius was eager on that particular day.

He woke very early, got himself ready, and sat on the bed.

Isolde noticed his shivering excitement, but was too tired after last night’s intense sex to care much. Still, she moved closer to her husband and gently laid her head on his lap.

Cassius instinctively began to stroke her hair, and at the same time:

DING!

[Saturday’s Origin Store is OPEN!!!!]

"Hehehehe!" Cassius grinned like a madman.

He summoned the Coin of Maybe, poured every last one of his Luck Points into it, and flipped it into the air while screaming so loudly that Isolde nearly slapped him on instinct.

"WE BALL!"

[LET’S FUCKING RIDE, BABYYYYY!!] Tysche roared, sounding even more excited than Cassius himself.
