King of the Wilderness
Chapter 744 - 344: Boat’s Reverse Launch, Riven’s Charisma_3
Chapter 744: Chapter 344: Boat’s Reverse Launch, Riven’s Charisma_3
The hull began an almost counterintuitive rotation with the center of the ship as its axis! Just as the stern was about to collide with another buoy...
He swiftly shifted into forward gear and turned the helm fully left, using the restored efficiency of the rudder in forward motion to precisely counteract the rotational inertia, holding the ship steady in place!
The entire ship, in a narrow space between two buoys, executed a near-perfect drift-like turn!
[Holy shit! Holy shit! Holy shit! I get it! I finally get it this time!]
[It’s not about the wheel (rudder), it’s about the propeller throwing it over on its own! So damn impressive!]
[Riven explains it so well! God Lin learns so fast! This pair is simply unbeatable!]
[I’m freaking blown away! This is turning a bug into a divine skill!]
Captain Mike stood with his mouth agape, speechless for a long time.
"You kid..." Mike pointed at Lin Yu’an but could only finally utter a curse, "You’re really a damn monster who defies logic!"
Riven laughed at this, standing up and stretching, her bikini revealing clear abs in the sunlight.
"Come on, Dad," she teased casually, "Turning in place is just an appetizer, right? It’s just to make you look cool, but in reality, we hardly ever use it."
She moved to the helm, confidently taking over with crisp, swift actions.
"Turning in place is cool but not quite practical." She patted Lin Yu’an on the shoulder, then confidently approached the helm with crisp, swift movements.
"The real test is docking the boat precisely in a berth barely wider than the boat itself in a crosswind. Like that."
She pointed at a remarkably narrow spot at the dock, wedged between two expensive Bosun speedboats, the gleaming hulls seemingly mocking any novice daring to approach.
"Riven, don’t mess around!" Mike immediately voiced his objection, his brows tightly furrowed.
"I admit he’s a genius, but even geniuses must obey physical laws! There’s a 12-knot crosswind at the dock, making this challenge extremely difficult!"
A wind speed of 12 knots (about 22 kilometers per hour) constitutes a forceful breeze, enough to exert a significant push on the hull, making docking very challenging.
"Dad, aren’t geniuses naturally adventurers?" Riven turned back and playfully winked at Lin Yu’an, her words brimming with strong self-assurance.
"Right, Lin?"
Once again, she left the choice to Lin Yu’an.
Lin Yu’an gazed at the berth that seemed incredibly challenging in the wind, then looked at Riven’s eyes that were filled with "I believe you can do it" and "Show me a performance".
He didn’t answer immediately but first stabilized the boat, then calmly said, "So, can I watch a demonstration?"
Riven liked this answer!
She burst into laughter: "Of course! The coach always goes first. Watch closely, I’ll only do it once."
With that, she began her performance.
Riven first aligned the bow into the wind, forming an approximately 30-degree angle, before engaging reverse gear and turning the helm fully to the right.
Just as Lin Yu’an had used before, the boat’s reverse launch began to "eject" the stern to the left while the crosswind from the right pushed the bow left forcefully.
"Look!" Riven’s voice was clear and calm, "Now, the engine’s ’ejecting force’ and the wind’s ’pushing force’ are creating two opposing torques at the bow and stern!"
"They cancel each other, preventing the boat from rotating, instead causing it to..."
Under the gaze of all observers, the sailboat, like a crab, began a stable, near-perfect sideways motion to the left!
"...move sideways!"
[Holy shit!!!!!!!!!!!!]
[Huh! Witch, what kind of sorcery is this?!]
[I’m freaking blown away! This is the true female Sea King! Absolutely cool!]
[This is ten thousand times more advanced than reversing into a garage! Riven teacher yyds!]
Riven’s operation was like a precise dancer, swiftly switching between forward and reverse gears (pulse mode) and subtly adjusting the helm angle, accurately controlling the speed and angle of lateral movement.
Ultimately, with only a few centimeters distance between the hull and the dock, she securely stopped the boat, not a bit more or less.
The entire process was fluid, brimming with a combination of strength and beauty.
She shut down the engine, turned to the now contemplative Lin Yu’an, her face regaining that challenging smile.
"Okay, genius sir, the stage is yours. Take it out and bring it back intact."
"Riven!" Mike was like an ant on a hot pan, "If he scrapes those two Bosuns, we won’t be able to repay by Christmas!"
"He better not scrape them." Riven replied nonchalantly, her gaze continuously locked on Lin Yu’an, filled with undeniable trust and expectation.
Lin Yu’an looked at the nearly impossible task, then at Riven’s dazzling blue eyes.
He didn’t immediately reach for the helm but instead quickly replayed and analyzed each of Riven’s movements in his mind: each helm angle, each throttle switch...
A moment later, he lifted his head, showing no fear but rather a thrilling excitement.
Without rushing to say he would try, Lin Yu’an calmly asked: "I noticed that while utilizing the boat’s reverse launch to swing the stern left, there was a very brief ’forward pulse’."
"And the helm was turned right; was that to utilize the lateral water flow from the propeller in forward motion to precisely control the bow’s angle and counteract the strong gusts?"
Not only had he caught on, but he was even analyzing the fluid mechanics behind it and pinpointing the most essential detail of the entire maneuver!
For once, even Riven was at a loss for words. Her smile froze, staring blankly at Lin Yu’an, but after a few seconds, she beamed a smile brighter than the Florida sunshine.
"You’ve completely got it! You absolutely understood it!" She was so excited she almost jumped up, "That’s exactly the secret! My goodness, you’re not human!"
She no longer held any doubts, directly stepping aside from the helmsman’s position, making a gesture inviting him.
"Come on, Captain Lin," she called him by this title for the first time, a voice filled with irresistible excitement, "Show me what you’ve got!"
And Mike could only helplessly wave his hand, slumping onto the rail, pulling out a cigar from his pocket but finding his hands shaking too hard to hold the lighter steadily.
He watched the two equally crazy young people before him, ultimately surrendering, murmuring to himself, "God... I need a strong drink."
Lin Yu’an walked to the helm, not immediately steering towards the narrow berth like Riven, but instead maneuvering the boat towards a relatively open area.
"What are you doing?" Mike couldn’t help but ask.
