Invincible Young Master in the City
Chapter 2188 - 2184: Energy Sources in the Universe
The two of them continued to drift in the universe, searching and hoping for the appearance of a Miracle.
Lei Zu still had a stern face, not saying a single word.
Lan Jing observed carefully. According to her observations of Lei Zu, Lei Zu might have lost most of her powers due to some accident.
Lan Jing estimated that Lei Zu’s magical abilities were definitely not as they used to be. If another disaster were to strike, she could seize the opportunity to slip away and regain her freedom.
Lan Jing was plotting how to escape, but her heart was still filled with many uneasy emotions. After all, Lei Zu’s cultivation was overwhelmingly powerful, even if wounded it was still much higher than her own.
"How much farther do we have to go? When will this endless journey find an end?" Lan Jing broke the silence, testing Lei Zu’s state.
"Stop babbling, we’ll find her eventually." Lei Zu didn’t want to say another word, talking more would only make her more tired.
"Alright, alright, until you’re satisfied. Anyway, I’m in your hands, whatever you say goes." Lan Jing responded perfunctorily, examining whether Lei Zu’s energy had significantly diminished. "If you could fly us as fast as you dodged that fog earlier, we could make much quicker progress, maybe even save your daughter in the process."
Lei Zu knew her powers hadn’t recovered yet; moving slowly was beneficial for herself. She said, "If you keep on talking, I’ll tear your mouth apart."
Lan Jing became more certain that Lei Zu was deliberately slowing their pace while concealing it from her. Engaging in direct combat wasn’t an option as she wasn’t Lei Zu’s match. Creating obstacles to force Lei Zu to take action was her only method of escape.
Lan Jing focused intently on sensing everything around, but what she was sensing wasn’t people, it was obstacles like the fog. The sooner she sensed them, the more advantageous it would be. The more specific her sense of these things, the more confident she would be in tricking Lei Zu.
"What is that?" Lei Zu shouted loudly.
Lan Jing was startled. She had planned to be the one to notice and inform Lei Zu, but Lei Zu had yelled first, much to her advantage. Ahead was a giant rock, surrounded by flashing flames, at times blue, at times red, elusive and unpredictable. "Let’s go take a look, if we get closer, I can sense more details." Lan Jing echoed.
Without thinking, Lei Zu grabbed Lan Jing and flew towards the rock, desperate to find her daughter and unwilling to give up any hope. Lei Zu shouted, "Quickly unleash your magic, we can’t get too close to the rock. The power within the rock is too strong, generating fierce heat that will roast us."
Lan Jing pretended to work hard on her magic. Although the heat was blinding her, conserving her strength and letting Lei Zu expend her power was the only way to escape. She had to endure. "I can’t sense anything, we need to get closer. The heat is making it hard for me to use my magic, you need to shield me."
Lei Zu couldn’t care about much else; she conjured a light to shield Lan Jing while dealing with the rock and protecting her. "Is there anyone inside? If not, we’ll leave. I can’t shield you for long, don’t delay, we are too close to the rock, and danger could strike anytime."
"We need to get a bit closer, I see some aura inside, not sure if there’s anyone, we can’t give up. If Ye Fan is trapped inside the rock, finding Ye Fan means finding your daughter. Isn’t that what you’ve been longing for day and night?" Lan Jing’s words pierced Lei Zu’s sore spot, compelling her to move closer to the rock.
Just having navigated the fog had left Lei Zu somewhat exhausted, not wanting to expend more power now, but the urge to save her daughter made her take the risk. If Ye Fan really was inside, she could rescue her daughter quickly. Lei Zu sped up her approach to the rock to allow Lan Jing to use her magic and sense inside the rock. "What’s inside? Did you see anything or not?" Lei Zu roared.
Lan Jing observed Lei Zu’s expression: eyes half-closed, cheeks reddened from the heat, and teeth clenched from exertion. Now was her chance to escape; if she missed it, there would be no other opportunity. Lan Jing blasted through the protective light set by Lei Zu, caught off guard and hit. Without Lei Zu’s protection, Lan Jing endured the rock’s immense heat. Encircled by heat, she found herself trapped by the external energy and realized she was being drawn towards the rock. It was then she realized part of Lei Zu’s swift approach was due to the rock’s gravitational pull. Lan Jing panicked; she couldn’t withstand the rock’s heat and had no ability to resist, destined to be drawn in and incinerated.
"You think it’s easy to die? Not before you help me find who I’m looking for. You’re not getting the chance to die, come back!" Lei Zu shouted, a light shield enveloped Lan Jing again, pulling her back and taking her away from the rock, flying into the cosmos.
Lan Jing took a deep breath, her life barely saved. Had she not made it out, she’d have been incinerated to ash. Dying like this would have been unjust, but fortunately, Lei Zu hadn’t suspected anything, otherwise, her end would have been dire. Never did she think Lei Zu’s power was so formidable, capable of withstanding the rock’s heat, countering its pull, and protecting her at the same time. Lan Jing sighed, realizing escape was hopeless and resigned herself to follow Lei Zu’s lead on this endless search.
"Why the sigh? I just saved you; you owe me. Now tell me, was there anyone inside the rock?" Lei Zu asked with a blank expression, looking directly at Lan Jing.
"At the moment I broke free, I sensed no one inside the rock, the energy was too powerful, I could barely use my magic." Lan Jing responded guiltily, unsure if Lei Zu had seen through her. "You saved me earlier, so now we’re even."
"We need to move quickly; the universe is perilous. Every moment we don’t find Ye Fan, my daughter suffers more," Lei Zu said.
Lan Jing, looking weary, gazed into the distance. "What was that thing back there, do you know?"
"There’s no need to know what it was. The sources of strange forces in the universe are far more than you think. You’re just a little girl who’s just stepped into the world of cultivation!" Lei Zu said domineeringly.
Lan Jing smiled wryly, "But if we keep searching like this, it’s pointless. The fourth heavenly tribulation is near, and without Ye Fan, I hope to share that burden."
"This responsibility has nothing to do with you. If you want to keep living, you’d better listen to me. For now, do as I say. Oppose me, and you’re courting death!" Lei Zu commanded.
