Invincible Snake Emperor
Chapter 759 - 689: Terrible Monster
Chapter 759: Chapter 689: Terrible Monster
A mere little green snake had slipped away with ease right in front of Tu Xiao’an, the Snake Emperor of the Yaoling Mountain Range.
It was completely unaffected by his Snake King aura.
Tu Xiao’an watched the little snake disappear into the Red Mist Area, his expression growing grave.
’How could there be a snake in this world that isn’t affected by my influence, that doesn’t fall under my dominion?’
’Could it be that it wasn’t a snake at all?’
’It was just a monster that looked like a snake.’
After a moment of contemplation, Tu Xiao’an could only come to that conclusion.
Ever since he was reborn as a snake, he had possessed the Snake King’s dominance ability. Any snake with a lower Level than him had to accept his rule and submit unconditionally.
Later, Tu Xiao’an ascended to the Upper Rank in the Yaoling Mountain Range to become a true Snake King, the commander of all snakes under heaven. None dared to disobey him.
To say nothing of the fact that he was now a Snake Emperor, at Level 39.
’If it really was a snake, could it possibly be stronger or more noble than me?’
’Impossible.’
So, there was only one explanation: it wasn’t a snake.
Sometimes, what the eye sees isn’t the truth.
Still, it was all very strange. A small, snake-like monster had just crawled out of the forehead of Song Ao’s corpse.
In other words, it had already been living inside the War God’s body.
’Then why did it show itself to me? Was it because Song Ao died, forcing it to leave?’
’Otherwise, living inside a corpse would be completely meaningless.’
Its ability to inhabit a human body, like a parasite, was even somewhat reminiscent of the Golden Silkworm Gu Snake Tu Xiao’an had once encountered. It would treat its host’s body like a spacious room, settling in to live and thrive, eating its host’s flesh and drinking their blood.
Once it hollowed out the body, it would have matured, and the host would be dead.
But that little green monster was definitely not a Golden Silkworm Gu Snake, and certainly not a real snake.
After thinking it over, Tu Xiao’an looked at Song Ao’s corpse on the ground and stomped his foot. The body immediately floated up, hovering at his chest level.
"Shatter..."
The clothes on Song Ao’s corpse instantly disintegrated, revealing a grotesque, naked body covered in old scars and wounds.
Becoming a War God required long years of Cultivation, so scars on the body were perfectly normal.
’It’s just an eyesore.’ He swore to himself he didn’t have any special fetishes; he just wanted to figure out where that little green monster came from and why it had emerged from Song Ao’s forehead.
Soon, Tu Xiao’an discovered a small hole in Song Ao’s chest, identical in size to the one on his forehead.
A look of understanding dawned on Tu Xiao’an’s face. ’There has to be an entry for there to be an exit.’
’It couldn’t have been birthed from nothing inside Song Ao’s body.’
In other words, the little green monster had burrowed through Song Ao’s chest to get inside his body.
But Song Ao was a War God, after all. While his physical constitution couldn’t compare to some scale-armored Great Demons, he should have long been impervious to ordinary weapons.
’How could he not have known that the little green monster had burrowed into his body?’
’Or was he unable to resist it?’
Tu Xiao’an gasped, his pupils constricting.
’Could it be that Song Ao hadn’t been himself for a long time? That he’d actually been controlled by this little green monster after it entered his body, turning him into a walking corpse?’
’That’s the only way to explain why he’d so suicidally come to kill me.’
’In this world, there’s a reason for everything. Attacking a super-powered expert for no reason at all... it just doesn’t add up.’
’Only the monsters of Skeleton Mountain would attack outsiders unconditionally.’
’The little green monster controlled Song Ao and used him to ambush me, an outsider.’
’Yes, that must be it.’
Staring at the hole in Song Ao’s chest, Tu Xiao’an mentally unraveled the mystery, piece by piece. ’If my theory is correct, then this type of monster is truly terrifying.’
’It’s definitely a product of Skeleton Mountain.’
’A very, very powerful monster that looks like a snake but isn’t one.’
Having figured it out, Tu Xiao’an took a deep breath. ’This Skeleton Mountain is as terrifying as they say.’
The various monsters here... the more you thought about them, the more terrifying they became.
Something that could burrow into a War God’s body and control him was definitely a BOSS-level monster.
’I guess I need to be more careful,’ Tu Xiao’an silently reminded himself.
’I can’t get arrogant in a place like this. One moment of carelessness and I could be done for.’
After a long pause, Tu Xiao’an dug a deep pit at the base of a large tree and buried Song Ao’s corpse.
To let him rest in peace.
He was a War God, after all. His body shouldn’t become food for the monsters of Skeleton Mountain.
Given his new theory, Tu Xiao’an found he couldn’t hate Song Ao anymore. Instead, he felt a flicker of sympathy.
An expert ranked ninety-second on the official Heavenly Ranking had died such an ignominious death.
Even if Tu Xiao’an hadn’t killed him, he wouldn’t have lived much longer anyway.
He had simply become a murder weapon in the hands of a monster.
"Let’s move on."
Tu Xiao’an said to the Skeleton Monster.
WHOOSH... WHOOSH...
The man and the monster, two phantom-like streaks of lightning, plunged into the Red Mist Area.
Upon entering the Red Mist Area, Tu Xiao’an didn’t feel anything particularly special, though the oppressive aura seemed to have grown a little stronger.
He couldn’t really put his finger on anything else.
A vast expanse of red met his eyes, as if he had fallen into some hazy, rose-tinted world.
It subtly made one’s emotions spike with a strange excitement.
"Skeleton, we need to get out of this Red Mist Area as fast as possible. Our target is the third stratum."
The third stratum is known as the death zone, and it’s also the most likely place to find the War Relics.
Luo Ziyun was almost certainly there.
Tu Xiao’an wished he could teleport directly to Luo Ziyun’s side. He was genuinely worried something might happen to her.
Even though he had always considered her powerful and mysterious...
But this was a mountain within the War Relics Domain, a place filled with treachery.
Along the way, Tu Xiao’an had encountered many monsters, like the Low Level Lord, the Three-legged Black-Scaled Pig, and the Little Green-Scaled Dragon King. They were all powerful, but none had given him a true sense of danger.
But the little green monster that had emerged from Song Ao’s corpse had cast a shadow over his heart.
He had a nagging feeling that he would meet that little creature again.
The disorienting Red Mist Area was still filled with bizarrely shaped trees, and the leaves they sprouted were just as strange and varied.
As Tu Xiao’an passed a low-hanging tree, one of its leaves bizarrely changed color, turning a shade of green. Then, a strange fluctuation of Energy flickered across the green leaf’s surface.
Finally, a small green snake materialized on the leaf. It slowly arched its tiny body and stared coldly at Tu Xiao’an’s retreating back, its scarlet tongue flicking in and out.
As Tu Xiao’an walked further away,
The little green snake vanished from the leaf.
A kilometer later, the little green snake manifested again on a leaf of a plant Tu Xiao’an was passing. It was still staring coldly, its tongue flicking.
It was tracking him. Tailing him. Its skill at concealment was extraordinary, and for a long time, Tu Xiao’an remained completely oblivious.
The little green snake’s behavior was bizarre. It followed him like a shadow, neither attacking nor making any other move, simply watching Tu Xiao’an’s every action.
It was as if they were playing a game of cat and mouse.
