Chapter 90 - 79: Taming the Ghostly Roar, Searching for the Profound Skill

Xu Guang chuckled. "Big guy, I’m not going to kill you. I just want to treat you to something delicious."

As he spoke, he took out the venison Song Tao had prepared and added some of his own Essence Blood to it.

"How about it? Want a bite?"

The Ghostly Roar, previously dismissive and untamed, suddenly widened its eyes the moment it saw the meat. As if it had spotted some rare treasure, its eyes bulged as large as brass bells.

The Blood of Transformation was indeed the Achilles’ heel of these Exotic Beasts and Alien Species. As soon as it was revealed, they lost all reason, much like demons encountering the Tang Monk.

He was generous, casually tossing a piece over. "This one’s on me."

Although the Ghostly Roar couldn’t understand Xu Guang’s words, his posture angered it. The gesture of feeding it like a dog bred resentment, but the intense craving in its heart ultimately forced it to swallow its pride.

After a long hesitation, it finally lowered its head and swallowed the ten-pound slab of venison in one gulp.

Seeing this, a look of joy appeared on Xu Guang’s face.

He realized this Ghostly Roar wasn’t as arrogant as the legends claimed.

After finishing its meal, the Ghostly Roar felt the changes the Blood of Transformation brought to its body. Its eyes widened even further, and the hatred in its gaze toward Xu Guang dissipated slightly.

Most Alien Species didn’t possess high intelligence, or at least that was the case for the Ghostly Roar.

Xu Guang picked up another piece of meat and jiggled it a few times. "Want some more?"

As if understanding him, the Ghostly Roar actually nodded.

"If you want to eat, you’ll listen to me from now on."

The Ghostly Roar couldn’t understand, so Xu Guang drew upon his previous experience of subduing the giant crocodile in the swamp. He slowly approached the beast and carefully stroked its body.

The scales on its surface weren’t cold; instead, they had a soft, smooth texture, much like a woman’s skin, making it very pleasant to touch.

The Ghostly Roar immediately turned its head. Xu Guang jiggled the meat again.

"Listen to me from now on," Xu Guang repeated.

The Ghostly Roar remained bewildered.

The man and the beast remained at a stalemate for a long time before the Ghostly Roar finally seemed to grasp Xu Guang’s meaning. It allowed Xu Guang to grab onto its body and climb onto its back, remaining completely quiet and motionless.

Success.

Xu Guang felt a surge of joy. He had subdued a true Alien Species, one even more powerful than Qian Cheng’s former Jade Elephant.

After guiding the Ghostly Roar back to the ancient well, Xu Guang straightened his clothes and walked outside. Having tamed the Ghostly Roar, Xu Guang’s overall strength had increased by another notch, putting him in excellent spirits.

He took Song Tao to the Underworld headquarters of the two wards for the first time.

Song Tao didn’t see the Ghostly Roar, but he was perceptive enough not to ask any questions and simply walked ahead to lead the way.

Along the way, thugs continuously greeted Song Tao, and there was no sight of the usual scenes of terrorizing the locals and harassing women.

Xu Guang grew increasingly appreciative of Song Tao. This man was a talent. Since Xu Guang planned to go to Xu State to find his third sister, Xu Qiu, he would have to leave one day. Feiyun City was his home, and he needed to leave behind some trustworthy people.

With that, everything was back on track. After Duan Jue revealed his hidden cards, whether the Yellow Heaven Sect’s Great Mage Zhang Qing was truly intimidated or just feigning it, the Yellow Heaven Sect completely vanished from Feiyun City.

Ten days later.

The Searcher produced a result.

[Current search results are as follows:]

[1. Ji Xiaolu has a special physique. When close to the Celestial Stele, she can absorb the Essence of Life from the Profound World and store it within her body. Current detection shows no harm. Note: The current search result only applies to the present world and cannot identify crises from the Profound World.]

[Note: The currently displayed result is one.]

Xu Guang felt somewhat relieved, but looking at the contents after the final "Note," he still felt a lingering unease.

Since entering the Refining Viscera Realm, the honeymoon period brought by cultivating five Cultivation Techniques simultaneously had finally passed. Xu Guang’s cultivation speed had slowed down. However, with Ji Xiaolu around, if he could obtain the Essence of Life Qi through their daily intimacy, combined with the Secret Medicine for the Refining Viscera Realm, his refinement speed wouldn’t be too slow. In three years at most, he would achieve Great Perfection of the five viscera.

But if that were the case, he would have to temporarily abandon the idea of looking for Xu Qiu.

He wondered how his third sister was doing over there.

Feeling conflicted, Xu Guang went to the City Guard’s Mansion to consult City Guardian Duan Jue.

"Lord Duan, I wish to travel to Xu State to gain experience. Do you think with my current strength, I would face any life-threatening dangers traveling across the Great Qian?"

Duan Jue gave him a peculiar look. "In past years, with your current strength, crossing some of the weaker states would be fine. But ever since Emperor Qian passed away five years ago, the world has been on the verge of turmoil. Going to Xu State right now is not a wise choice.

"If you’re willing, I can write a letter of recommendation for you to join the Cyan Cloud Sect in Tai State. With your talent, it won’t be long before you obtain a Profound Skill and step into Sensing Profound. Once you reach that point, you’ll be able to travel anywhere in the world freely."

Duan Jue appeared open and aboveboard, telling him the truth and even offering to pave a way for Xu Guang.

Xu Guang had consulted Duan Jue several times and had gained some understanding of the Sensing Profound Realm. The so-called Sensing Profound meant perceiving the Profound World, forging the Seed of a Profound Human, and drawing in Profound World Qi to trigger unimaginable changes within oneself.

After all, Duan Jue was not a Martial Artist, so he didn’t know much about the path to breaking through to Sensing Profound. He only knew that it required a Profound Skill, Martial Intent, and Blood Seal—the three must merge to forge the Profound Seed. None of the three could be missing. The Profound Skill was the method of breakthrough, Martial Intent was the spirit that anchored the realm, and the Blood Seal was the path of the True Self.

Xu Guang fell silent for a long time before respectfully expressing his gratitude to Duan Jue.

Duan Jue simply waved his hand, looking as if it was no big deal.

After pondering for a long while, Xu Guang finally voiced his lingering doubt. "May I ask, Lord Duan, why do you view this Xu in such a special light?"

Duan Jue burst into laughter. Pointing at Xu Guang, he said to Li Zongkang, "I told you this kid would ask me! Look how little time it took for him to grow too impatient to hold it in."

He seemed to have a wicked sense of humor and deeply enjoyed teasing the reticent Li Zongkang.

Li Zongkang gave Xu Guang a strange look and remained silent.

Duan Jue shook his head and looked back at Xu Guang. "Everything about you is great, except that your guard is way too high. It’s like you’re constantly worried someone is out to get you."

He paused. His gaze shifted past Xu Guang, gradually losing focus as if he could see events unfolding in an infinitely distant place.

"To govern a region is to bless its people. In my early years, I mingled in the Capital City, but was later demoted and sent back to my hometown. I simply want to spend the rest of my life nurturing a few outstanding juniors for my homeland. Zong Kang is one, and so are you."

This sentence contained a massive amount of information. Duan Jue’s identity didn’t seem simple; he had supposedly served as an official in the Capital City during his early years. It also clarified that he harbored no ill intent toward Xu Guang.

Seeing that Duan Jue was no longer in the mood to speak, Xu Guang tactfully refrained from asking further questions. However, he ultimately gave a polite refusal to Duan Jue’s kind offer of recommending him to the Sect. He still had a long way to go in Refining Viscera, and with the Searcher, he wasn’t worried about lacking Cultivation Techniques.

Although Duan Jue appeared somewhat regretful, he didn’t press the matter. He merely told Xu Guang to go back and think it over, and that if he ever decided to join the Sect, he could return to collect the recommendation letter.

After returning, before Xu Guang could make any decisions, good news arrived from his home.

Ji Xiaolu was pregnant!

Left with no other choice, Xu Guang had to temporarily give up on searching for his third sister. Instead, he would use the Searcher every now and then to check on her whereabouts. Once he confirmed she was still alive, he would dispatch a Messenger Owl to Xu State, hoping to establish contact with her.

However, Xu Guang knew full well how difficult this would be. Messenger Owls were rather dim-witted, and the journey was fraught with danger. Reaching Xu Qiu was little more than a theoretical hope.

Still, it was at least something to hold onto.

He hired Chen Pan, a famous grand painter in the city, and brought in Xu Chun to help sketch out what Xu Qiu looked like as a child based on memory. After training the Messenger Owl to memorize the portrait, he released it into the sky.

This was the only thing he could do for the time being.

After the Messenger Owl flew away, Xu Guang opened the Searcher again and began searching for the whereabouts of a Profound Skill. To ensure he would get a result, he slightly expanded the search radius, covering the nine cities surrounding Feiyun City.

Since the target of his search exceeded his current level and was related to the Profound World, it unsurprisingly took a very long time.

It would require a full year and a half.

Given that it involved Sensing Profound, Xu Guang wasn’t in a hurry. After all, his Refining Viscera Realm had not yet reached Perfection, and he had not achieved Seeing God. Even if he obtained a Profound Skill now, he wouldn’t be able to perceive the Profound World anyway.
