Chapter 740: Chapter 740 - An amazing discovery (Part 3)

There was a slight pause from Laerad’s side. It was as if he was thinking carefully about whether he would agree and give to me what I needed from him. On another note, maybe he was already checking things about this peculiar mountain.

His silence couldn’t help but make me a bit nervous since I also don’t want him to get in trouble in case what I am asking of him is forbidden or can hurt him. It is just that I really don’t have any other means to get information quickly other than from the deity that guarded this planet from the start so I waited patiently for him to speak again.

After several minutes of silence, I heard a sigh from Laerad as he asked in a helpless tone, "You want me to check this mountain in front of you? This isn’t even a mountain but a bump on the ground formed from bones with a lot of soil on top, you know."

I got confused at his last statement. The sentence was clear enough and I could understand each word in it too. It is just that when the words were put together in a sentence, it doesn’t make any sense to me at all.

I looked at Altair with furrowed brows. His eyes met mine as he seemed to have been observing my facial reactions all along. When he caught me looking at him, he whispered, "You are talking to that tree, right? What did he say about this?" while pointing to the area in front of us.

I wasn’t surprised that he realized that I was talking to somebody telepathically. It is quite impressive that he even got the other party’s identity correctly. I could have been talking to anybody. It can be my parents, one of my husbands or another mystique, you know?

I looked at him and smirked in amusement. I replied to him but did not really answer his question directly as I said, "Which part of this mountain did you feel that faint breath of life from? Honestly, from where we are standing right now, I don’t feel or hear anything. All I see are a lot of soil, plants and rocks."

Altair suddenly held my right hand like it is the most natural thing then he started walking and pulling me with him. He guided me nearer to an area at the foot of the mountain, turning to the right from where we were standing earlier.

I did not flinch from his touch and even smiled secretly. I simply let him guide me to where the breath of life was located. On the other hand, I asked Laerad what he meant by this place being a mountain made of bones.

Clearly, now that I see the place closely and in person, this huge area in front of me was soil with towering trees and thick grass growing on top of it seemingly for a long period of time. It just proves that this place has been a mountain with forested areas for who knows how long since forest don’t become this lunch within a few decades only.

It did not take long before Altair stopped walking then he pointed at a particular area. I approached the place he pointed at carefully then placed my palm on that patch of ground. I closed my eyes to try to sense that breath he was talking about.

After only a few seconds, I opened my eyes abruptly. I clearly heard the faint sounds of a heart beating as well as a very weak and uneven breath inside. Moutains do not breath and have heartbeats like that!

Just when I was about to tell Altair what I heard, my thoughts were cut by Laerad’s telepathic message. He said simply, "Sure, it looks like a mountain. The spaces between the dragon bones were filled with soil as time went by. Judging by how things look around the area, it has been several centuries when it died."

My instant reaction was to ask, "A dragon? What color is it? There’s a heartbeat inside though which means something is alive here 4bank! How can it be all bones?"

After asking my questions to Laerad, then came Altair’s voice as he asked in confirmation, "You heard it right? I told you I am not lying."

I looked at Altair and rolled my eyes at him. Nobody said he was lying. He simply chuckled in response.

Laerad then continued, "According to the memory of the world from this area, the dragon bones is from an elder dragon. He died of natural causes, maybe old age or absence of mana. When he died, he was with his son who’s in his adolescence stage at that time. With his last bit of strength, he laid another egg so that his son won’t be alone in this world."

I was silent as I gathered my thoughts. If the father was the set of bones and there was a son and even an egg, it means the children may still be alive. They might be the source of the breath inside!

I thanked Laerad who sounded confused. He apologized instead as he couldn’t clearly

identify the color of the dragon in the memory of the world as if there is some kind of interference keeping him from doing so.

I hurriedly grabbed Altair’s sleeves as I pointed to the area I touched earlier. I ordered him loudly, "Help me dig inside here. There is someone inside this mountain. No! There are two of them! Hurry up!"

Altair looked at his hands and then towards the soil. Clearly, he doesn’t want to get his hands dirty. I glared at him and he just sighed helplessly. He murmured, "You better give me a generous reward for this information and the dirty work you made me do afterwards. You know that only Samir likes digging around and touching soil."

I looked at him with my right eyebrow raised and responded in a sarcastic tone, "Then you can leave if you do not want to dig. I will call on 56Samir to come instead and dig for me." His eyes widened as he almost screamed, "No way! I found this lead. I won’t let him get the credit! Don’t you dare call anybody else when you are with me!"

I laughed and responded, "Then start digging and less talking." He sighed heavily and responded, "Fine."

Laerad seemed to be watching what I was doing and I heard him laugh telepathically as he saw Altair digging in the ground using both his magic spells and his bare hands. He couldn’t risk to use a huge spell to carve out the mountain and then end up killing the beings that we were trying to save.
