Infinite Disasters: I Hoarded My Way to Godhood
Chapter 88: Chaos, Resistance Army
Chapter 88: Chapter 88: Chaos, Resistance Army
Seraphina Sullivan’s gaze swept across the high platform to Wessuri, whose expression was grim.
She whispered to Lily Underwood, "If we lose, we’ll likely go from being ’temporary workers’ to ’fugitives.’ This last day will probably be our ultimate survival challenge. It’ll all come down to who’s skilled enough to evade the pursuit and survive these final hours."
After several days of competition, it was now their seventh and final day in this instance.
As long as they survived today, regardless of the outcome, their [Main Quest One: Survive for Seven Days] would be complete, and they could return to the real world.
Lily Underwood fell silent at Seraphina Sullivan’s words.
She understood that Seraphina was describing the most likely scenario.
Victory meant a possible promotion to a full-time position and a chance to spend the final hours in peace.
Defeat, however, meant facing a guaranteed purge and hunt, a desperate struggle for survival.
All eyes were fixed on the Supervisor who was nervously tallying the data. The air seemed to solidify, filled with a suffocating tension.
The final result would decide the fate of many.
On the high platform, both Wessuri and Leon Gilmore held their breath, waiting for the final results.
This competition wasn’t just about saving face; it likely involved the division of more fundamental interests.
Soon, the final tallies were presented to the two supervisors.
Pork Slaughterhouse Total Kill Count: 23456
Chicken Slaughterhouse Total Kill Count: 23444
Victor: The Pork Slaughterhouse!
Seeing the incredibly close yet decisive numbers, Seraphina Sullivan, Dustin Sullivan, Lily Underwood, and the others below the stage felt a great weight lift from their chests, all secretly sighing in relief.
’The path was twisted, but we won in the end!’
The gloom on Wessuri’s face vanished in an instant. The corners of her mouth curled into an irrepressible, victorious smile as she looked at Leon Gilmore, whose face was livid with rage.
"Heh, it seems I was right. A larger team doesn’t guarantee victory. Supervisor Gilmore, thanks for the match. I was just a cut above this time."
Leon Gilmore was so furious he nearly ground his teeth to dust. From beneath his meticulously applied eyeshadow, his beautiful eyes glared viciously at the dejected temporary workers behind him. He squeezed two words out through his clenched teeth:
"Useless trash!"
He couldn’t be bothered to keep up appearances any longer. With a cold snort and a flick of his sleeves, he turned and stormed away, taking his posse of chicken-headed Supervisors and the defeated temporary workers with him, never looking back.
The losers’ fate was never a good one. Expressions of despair were already etched on the faces of the temporary workers from the chicken slaughterhouse.
Only the people from the Pork Slaughterhouse remained.
Wessuri was in high spirits. Her gaze fell upon Seraphina Sullivan and the others, her tone softening considerably. "You all did very well. You haven’t disappointed me."
She paused, moving to fulfill her earlier promise. "As I said before, victory means the top-performing temporary workers will be promoted to full-time employees. However..."
Her tone shifted. "Our slaughterhouse has a limited number of full-time positions—only three. I will grant the status of full-time employee to the three individuals with the highest personal kill counts in this competition!"
A jolt of excitement went through Seraphina Sullivan, Dustin Sullivan, and Lily Underwood simultaneously.
’In the last few days, they had worked together, grinding kills like mad. Their personal counts were all incredibly high, so their chances of making the top three were excellent!’
Sure enough, the moment Wessuri finished announcing the rules—
[Ding! Congratulations, Player, you have completed Side Quest Three: Become a Full-Time Employee!]
[Ding! Congratulations, Player, you have received your reward: One Random Potion!]
The system prompts chimed simultaneously in the minds of Seraphina Sullivan, Dustin Sullivan, and Sean Chandler.
All three of them had made it into the top three!
Lily Underwood’s expression stiffened slightly, clearly annoyed that she hadn’t received a reward.
However, before Seraphina Sullivan’s joy could fully register, Wessuri’s voice changed abruptly. The warmth and praise from moments before vanished, replaced by an icy, oppressive tone.
"However—"
Her gaze swept over everyone below the stage like an ice-cold searchlight.
"During this competition, an extremely serious problem arose! Something appeared on the ranch that absolutely should not be here—a firearm!"
BOOM!
Her words hit the crowd like a thunderclap.
Seraphina Sullivan’s body stiffened almost imperceptibly, and her heart skipped a beat.
Standing beside her, Dustin Sullivan and Lily Underwood also had a subtle change in expression. Their eyes sharpened, and their muscles tensed instinctively.
Ash couldn’t help but glance at Seraphina Sullivan.
"Now, who could it be?" Wessuri’s icy voice slithered across the silent plaza like a venomous snake.
Her solid black eyes, devoid of whites, slowly scanned every temporary worker below, her gaze filled with scrutiny and killing intent.
"To think someone could produce a firearm, a weapon explicitly forbidden in the slaughterhouse and impossible to acquire here. Did you bring it in yourself, or... are you in league with the ’rats’ on the outside?"
Outwardly, Seraphina Sullivan remained impassive, but every muscle in her body was coiled tight. Her mind was on high alert, ready to activate her [Bounce] Skill and escape at a moment’s notice.
Sean Chandler also shifted half a step, subtly positioning himself to shield her.
However, just as the tension reached a breaking point—
"BOOM!!!"
A deafeningly loud explosion suddenly roared from the distance!
The ground even trembled slightly!
"What happened?!"
"An explosion?!"
Everyone’s attention was instantly captured, and all heads turned toward the direction of the blast.
That was the very direction the team from the chicken slaughterhouse had just departed!
In that direction, flames shot into the sky amid plumes of thick, rolling smoke. Immediately after, the sounds of more frequent explosions and chaotic battle cries followed in quick succession.
Dustin Sullivan’s eyes narrowed. He whispered, "It’s the Players from the other slaughterhouse. They’ve made their move! They lost the competition, so going back would have been a death sentence anyway. Looks like they decided to take everyone down with them and fight back."
Seraphina Sullivan’s eyes lit up when she heard this.
’Chaos!’
’This is the chaotic opportunity they desperately needed!’
Sure enough, before Wessuri could react, Evander Hogan came scrambling over in a panic.
His voice was shrill with panic. "I-it’s bad! Lady Wessuri! The perimeter! There’s a resistance army at the perimeter! They have heavy firepower, and they’re attacking the main gate and the Walls!"
"The resistance?!"
Wessuri’s expression turned incredibly sour. "Of all the... It’s just one damn thing after another!" she snarled.
She shot a vicious glare at the temporary workers below before barking an order to the surrounding Hogman Supervisors. "Watch them! If any of them make a move, kill them on sight!"
With that said, her figure flickered and vanished like a phantom, clearly off to handle the greater crisis.
"The resistance?" Seraphina Sullivan looked to Ash.
Ash excitedly whispered his explanation, "They’re a human organization from the outside world, still fighting against the Demons’ rule! They’re powerful, and they sometimes raid the slaughterhouses to rescue people or cause damage!"
Just then, Dustin Sullivan suddenly turned to Seraphina Sullivan and Lily Underwood, a wild, excited gleam in his eyes. "We’re due to return in just a few hours. What do you say? Want to take this chance to... go big?"
