Infinite Disasters: I Hoarded My Way to Godhood
Chapter 78: Cluckers, Chicken, Mobile Ingredient Warehouse
Chapter 78: Chapter 78: Cluckers, Chicken, Mobile Ingredient Warehouse
Dustin Sullivan and Lily Underwood both caught the vicious sneak attack aimed at the back of Seraphina Sullivan’s head out of the corners of their eyes.
However, their steps only faltered for a moment; they didn’t immediately rush to help.
Dustin Sullivan’s gaze was calm, as if he were assessing something.
Beneath her mask, Lily Underwood’s brows furrowed. She tightened her grip on her weapon but ultimately made no move.
Their thoughts were surprisingly in sync. ’If Seraphina Sullivan can’t even handle a sneak attack of this level, she’s not destined to last long in this cruel competition. She isn’t worthy of being our partner, and getting rid of a dead weight early isn’t a bad thing.’
The flimsy nature of their team spirit was on full display.
Seraphina Sullivan paid it no mind.
She had long understood that in a place like this, people you could trust your back to were few and far between. In the end, survival depended solely on oneself.
She had never placed her hopes of survival in the hands of others.
Just as the cold blade was about to touch a strand of her hair...
Seraphina Sullivan’s figure shifted slightly to the side before she spun around, her left hand shooting out.
With unerring precision, she seized the attacker’s knife-wielding wrist!
"What?!" The attacker’s pupils constricted, the smug, vicious grin on his face instantly freezing.
In its place was utter disbelief!
He felt as if his wrist were clamped in a steel vise. No matter how much strength he exerted, it wouldn’t budge an inch!
The attacker’s eyes filled with terror. ’Where did this woman get such terrifying strength?!’
Seraphina Sullivan sneered inwardly. ’Those five Power Apples weren’t for nothing!’
Though she wasn’t a King of Fortune like Sean Chandler who had directly awakened the [Monster Power] Talent, the pure Power she’d accumulated had long since surpassed that of an ordinary person.
CRACK!
A sickening crunch of breaking bone rang out clearly!
"AAGH—!!!" The man let out a blood-curdling scream like a pig being slaughtered. His wrist twisted at an unnatural angle, and his machete fell to the ground with a CLANG.
Seraphina Sullivan didn’t even spare a glance at his face, contorted in agony.
Grabbing his arm by the broken wrist, she put her core into it and, as if tossing a bag of trash, effortlessly swung the man—who was much larger than her—and slammed him violently against a thick nearby tree!
THUD!
The man crashed heavily against the tree trunk and tumbled to the ground. Besides his broken wrist, who knew how many other bones in his body were shattered. He could only curl up like a pile of sludge, letting out pained moans.
Seraphina Sullivan shot him a cold glance.
She didn’t kill him, and it wasn’t out of some saintly compassion.
Instead, she knew perfectly well that in this perilous Slaughter Pasture, the fear and despair endured by someone who had lost their ability to fight and could only await death was far crueler than being killed cleanly.
"You shouldn’t have provoked me."
She left him with those words, ignoring the crippled man. She bent down to pick up her machete and the one he had dropped, then turned and quickly vanished into the forest, her movements decisive and resolute.
This series of clean, powerful movements brought a flash of surprise and approval to Dustin Sullivan’s eyes. Beneath her mask, the corners of Lily Underwood’s mouth also curved up slightly.
It seemed no one in this hastily formed, flimsy team was a simple character.
Ash gulped as he watched the scene, then followed behind Seraphina Sullivan with a silent Sean Chandler.
He knew that as long as he obediently stuck by Seraphina Sullivan’s side, he could save his own skin. This time, he was still determined to stick with her.
After the brief commotion over the weapons, the real slaughter began.
Lily Underwood tightened her grip on the long-handled axe she had chosen and looked at Dustin Sullivan. "What’s our plan? Do we look for targets together and then take them down as a group?"
She favored teamwork; after all, there was strength in numbers.
Dustin Sullivan’s gaze swept across the vast and dangerous pasture.
After a moment of thought, he shook his head. "That’s too inefficient. The targets are too spread out, and we’d miss too many. I suggest we first split into pairs to search for and deal with the ’creatures,’ widening our search area. If we encounter a problem we can’t handle alone, we can signal for help."
This plan balanced efficiency with a degree of safety.
Seraphina Sullivan also agreed with this plan. She glanced over at Harvey Fletcher’s group; those four were even more direct, having already split off in different directions to act individually, showing no intention of cooperating.
’She understood. In the end, whether it was the number of kills or the slots for promotion to official worker, it all came down to individual performance.’
’Cooperation was merely to increase survival rates and handle emergencies. It was a bonus, but at the core, you still had to rely on yourself.’
"Then I’ll be on your team!" Lily Underwood immediately said to Dustin Sullivan, clearly believing the seemingly profound and reserved scholar was the stronger partner.
Seraphina Sullivan had no objections. She already had Sean Chandler, an absolutely obedient puppet with immense strength, by her side.
Ash also instinctively stuck close behind Seraphina Sullivan. If he were left alone in this forest, he reckoned he wouldn’t last half an hour.
With Sweet Fragrance at her disposal, she wasn’t about to let such a useful helper go.
"In that case, let’s begin." Dustin Sullivan nodded, and he and Lily Underwood chose a direction and quickly departed.
Seraphina Sullivan also led Sean Chandler and Ash deeper into the forest in another direction.
They hadn’t gone far when a sharp screech and a flapping sound suddenly erupted from the bushes ahead!
Immediately after, a massive "chicken," almost as tall as a person, shot out!
Its plumage was vibrant, its comb blood-red, and its eyes were incredibly sharp. But the most striking feature was its huge beak, which glinted with a cold, metallic light.
Ash sucked in a sharp breath and whispered nervously, "It’s a Clucker! These things are dangerous! Their beaks can easily peck through steel, and they’re fast!"
Seraphina Sullivan’s [Eye of Resume] activated:
[Name: Clucker]
[Gender: Female]
[Professional Skills: Lay Eggs: Lays eggs when it has sufficient food.]
[Weaknesses: Acrophobia!]
Acrophobia as a weakness?
Seraphina Sullivan froze for a moment when she saw this weakness. A chicken with a fear of heights? ’What kind of bizarre setting is this?’
’They should’ve called you an Earthbound Chicken, not a Clucker.’
But when she got a clear look at the Clucker’s massive, sturdy frame and what appeared to be very firm muscles, her eyes instantly lit up!
Her previous complaint was immediately thrown to the winds.
And her perspective on this competition changed.
’This isn’t some dangerous prey for a competition. This is clearly my mobile ingredient pantry, a self-stocking buffet!’
She had a Storage Space; she could kill it and instantly tuck the entire corpse into her Space without anyone being the wiser!
The wristband only counts kills; it doesn’t check where the bodies go!
’Chicken... this is fresh chicken!’ Seraphina Sullivan licked her lips.
The tension she felt from the competition was instantly replaced by a strange excitement. ’I wonder if this Clucker would taste better in a stew or roasted...’
Ash, standing to the side, keenly sensed that the aura of the "temp worker" beside him had suddenly changed.
Everyone else who entered the Slaughter Pasture was on high alert, tense and fearful. But her... her eyes were glowing with an almost greedy light, like a hungry wolf spotting a plump sheep. The eager excitement was practically overflowing from her!
While Ash was still staring blankly, Seraphina Sullivan had already barked a low command, "Sean Chandler, control it! Don’t smash it to pieces, keep it whole!"
