Chapter 6: Chapter 6: Three Items

Seraphina Sullivan didn’t want to attract too much attention. Besides, who knew if the next Player she ran into would try to snatch the Sound Wave Vibration Gun from her hands?

Seraphina knew her own limits. She wasn’t strong.

She had only made a move on Moe Chandler and Fawn Lynn because she knew their abilities, and neither of their Talents were particularly powerful in combat.

If she had run into someone like the person she’d seen using Fireball, Seraphina would have turned and fled without a second thought.

Discretion was the better part of valor.

’Better to lay low,’ she silently warned herself.

She wasn’t some protagonist with heaven-defying luck and invincible strength. After being chosen by the system and thrown into this game, she understood better than anyone that survival was the only goal.

Having read so many apocalypse novels, Seraphina understood better than anyone that this survival game wouldn’t be limited to a single instance like the Alien Apocalypse.

There would be crueler instances, more terrifying monsters, and more treacherous Players in the future... She had to prepare in advance.

For the next seven days, Seraphina was a lone wolf, silently roaming the city dominated by Aberrations.

She deliberately avoided crowds, searching for supplies in all sorts of places.

Food, medicine, tools... she stuffed anything and everything useful into her backpack.

Her Space was now filled with all sorts of items she had collected.

And Seraphina hadn’t forgotten the extra Ability that came with her Profession.

Every day, she used the items she found to perform a transformation.

After the success of the Sound Wave Vibration Gun, Seraphina no longer underestimated the Scavenger Profession’s Waste Transformation Ability.

Although Seraphina had already decided to use her Worker Talent to acquire the Scavenging Backpack—a Space Ability—after she returned.

She wasn’t about to pass up the daily opportunity for a Waste Transformation in this instance.

It wasn’t that Seraphina didn’t want to acquire the Waste Transformation ability permanently.

As the saying goes: when your neighbor hoards grain, you hoard guns. Your neighbor becomes your granary.

Seraphina’s own Talent didn’t have much offensive capability. If she went back with the Waste Transformation ability, she could create items every day, but she would have no way to protect them. If someone found out, no matter how many special items she hoarded, she would just be making them for someone else to take.

Over the next six days, Seraphina didn’t waste a single chance to use Waste Transformation.

On the second day, she used the Identification Glasses she had gotten from Moe Chandler and some other items for a Waste Transformation.

The original Identification Glasses could only scan for basic information. While rummaging through a specialty camping gear store, Seraphina stumbled upon a pair of military night-vision goggles and a pair of binoculars.

Seraphina simply combined the three items in a transformation.

The result was a brand-new, special pair of glasses.

[Analysis Glasses]

[Ability One: Night Vision Mode: Allows for clear vision in complete darkness.]

[Ability Two: Remote Locking: Observe enemies from a distance, up to a maximum of one kilometer.]

[Ability Three: Item Identification: Can identify information about items.]

"Nice!" Seraphina tried them on. Her vision instantly became several times clearer, which would make her future movements more convenient and much safer.

On the third day, she tried to transform a pair of shoes, hoping to create a pair that would let her run much faster, but it failed outright.

This made Seraphina realize that Waste Transformation wasn’t a guaranteed success.

After that, Seraphina became extremely cautious with her transformations.

On the fourth day, she transformed a mask.

[Anti-Poison Mask]

[Ability One: Gas Filtration: Can filter out most chemical gases and smoke.]

[Ability Two: Oxygen Reserve: Provides 30 minutes of breathable air in a completely sealed environment.]

After creating this mask, Seraphina didn’t succeed in a single transformation for the next few attempts.

「The final day of the Alien Apocalypse arrived.」

’I wonder what kind of chaos will break out in the real world after we return.’

Over the past few days, Seraphina had seen her fair share of fellow Players, some with Talents so powerful they made her envious.

For instance, on the third day, she had used her Analysis Glasses to remotely spot someone who could fly.

The Pryros monster, as powerful as it was, couldn’t fly, so it was unable to harm that particular Player.

’No need to be too jealous. My own abilities are pretty good, too,’ Seraphina comforted herself.

On the last day, Seraphina found a few broken syringes, half a bottle of expired antibiotics, and some other medical supplies in a destroyed clinic.

After several failed Waste Transformations in a row, Seraphina didn’t have much hope for this attempt to succeed. She just casually gathered the items and started the process.

Perhaps because it was the final day, she was blessed with a stroke of luck, and the transformation was a One-shot Soul success.

An item appeared in her hand.

[Universal Syringe]

[Effect: Can be used by filling the syringe with pure water.]

[Ability One: Quick Hemostasis: Accelerates hemostasis at the wound site after injection.]

[Ability Two: Antibacterial Infection: Reduces the risk of wound infection after injection.]

[Ability Three: Pain Paralysis: Paralyzes the wound to reduce pain after injection. However, excessive use may lead to a paralytic coma or even death by paralysis.]

’Finally, something that can save my life.’

Seraphina looked over the information for the Universal Syringe, then stored it in her Space.

She looked off into the distance.

The final day was here. Seraphina watched the instance countdown; there was only one hour left until their return.

Many Players probably realized they were about to be sent back and wanted to take down a few more monsters before they left.

’Some people are just gluttons for punishment,’ Seraphina thought when she overheard someone voicing that idea.

However, Seraphina had no intention of courting death. Holding her Sound Wave Vibration Gun, she continued to stay far away from those people.

’Hurry up and send us back. In this instance, I’m afraid to even eat for fear of attracting monsters. When I get back, I’m going to treat my stomach to a feast.’

Seraphina walked cautiously, hoping to find a few more supplies before she had to leave.

The next second, a man’s shout suddenly rang out from overhead.

"Come on, you bastards! Come and get your daddy!"

Seraphina looked up at the sky.

She saw a flying figure dodging the Pryros Aberrations that were leaping between the city’s buildings.

The taunts sounded impressive, but Seraphina, wearing her Analysis Glasses and using the Remote Locking function, could see that the flying little fatty’s eyes were filled with tears.

’Isn’t that the person I saw before?’ Seraphina immediately realized this was the same Player she had spotted earlier.

She immediately used her Eye of Resume to inspect his information.

[Name: Franklin Ross]

[Gender: Male]

[Professional Skills: Talent·Flying (Allows for short-term flight.)]

[Weaknesses: Fear of heights]

[Note: One of the players randomly selected by the system for the survival game.]

After reading the man’s profile, Seraphina was speechless.

A Talent for Flight, but a weakness of being afraid of heights.

She really didn’t know if this guy was lucky or unlucky.

But Seraphina had no intention of getting involved. She had no idea why this guy, Franklin Ross, was provoking the Aberrations.

She wanted no part of it.

But Franklin Ross’s shouts from the sky attracted even more Aberrations from within the city.

Seeing Aberrations swarming from all directions, leaving her with no room to escape, made Seraphina want to curse someone out.
