Infinite Disasters: I Hoarded My Way to Godhood
Chapter 29: Counterattack Plan, Base Defenses
Chapter 29: Chapter 29: Counterattack Plan, Base Defenses
Once Summer Lynn realized Seraphina Sullivan was a Player with no hostile intentions, her eyes suddenly lit up. Recalling her own recent experiences, she immediately thought of a possibility.
"Are you gathering supplies?" Summer Lynn asked tentatively, a shrewd glint in her eyes.
She saw the backpack Seraphina Sullivan wore to conceal her Space and assumed she was short on supplies.
"I know a place with plenty of supplies. Want to team up? If we work together, we can split whatever we get."
Summer Lynn had never suffered such a huge loss in her entire life.
Of course, part of it was seeing that the people here were actually experimenting on ordinary humans, which was infuriating.
For certain reasons, she couldn’t stand human experimentation. She wanted to get rid of these people.
Summer Lynn added through gritted teeth, "I know a small military base where supplies are piled high as a mountain. We can go there and get what we need."
Seraphina Sullivan was thinking.
Seeing that Seraphina Sullivan didn’t respond immediately, her brother, Troy Lynn, worried she might misunderstand and quickly explained, "Don’t think these soldiers are good people. What they’re doing... If you saw it with your own eyes, you’d want to cut them into a thousand pieces."
The thought of that place made Troy Lynn’s blood run cold.
If he and his sister weren’t Players with Talents, they would have ended up just like those ordinary people...
Summer Lynn picked up where he left off, her voice thick with suppressed rage. "When we entered this instance, we pretended to be ordinary survivors, hoping to ride out these ten days under the military’s protection. But who would have thought..."
Her nails dug deep into her palms. "They actually locked up captured survivors with parasitic monsters to conduct experiments..."
Seraphina Sullivan listened quietly to the siblings’ story, the image of that modified parasitic Hound surfacing in her mind.
And those heavily armed people.
’Looks like the dangers in this Doomsday Game instance are far more complex than just the parasitic monsters on the surface,’ Seraphina thought.
"So," Seraphina Sullivan said slowly, "you want to use me to get your revenge?"
A sudden silence fell.
Summer Lynn and Troy Lynn exchanged a look. In the end, Summer Lynn was the one who broke the silence. "Not entirely. We do need your Power, but there’s something in it for you too. The base has plenty of food and weapons."
Seraphina Sullivan’s gaze swept back and forth between the two siblings.
The hatred in Summer Lynn’s eyes didn’t seem fake, and while Troy Lynn was cautious, he showed no signs of lying.
More importantly... Seraphina Sullivan really did need more supplies.
"Fine, but let me make one thing clear beforehand."
A Silver Needle suddenly materialized in Seraphina Sullivan’s hand, instantly pressing against Summer Lynn’s throat. "If you dare to screw me over, I’ll make sure you die a death more gruesome than being torn apart by parasitic monsters."
Summer Lynn wasn’t afraid in the slightest. Instead, she broke into a relieved smile.
She wasn’t scared of Seraphina Sullivan’s threat.
Summer Lynn thought that as long as Seraphina Sullivan saw what was happening at that small base, she would surely feel the same way they did and eradicate everyone there one by one.
"I know. I also want to complete the mission safely and return," Summer Lynn said.
"Tell me about the base and your plan," Seraphina Sullivan asked.
’If I’m going to get the supplies from this base, I need to get detailed information.’
"Where is this base? How many guards are there, exactly? What’s their firepower? Where are the supplies stored?"
Troy Lynn replied, "The base is in a deserted chemical plant in the northern suburbs of this city. A ten-man patrol team equipped with automatic rifles guards the perimeter. The lab is on the second basement level. That’s where... they’re holding a lot of survivors."
Summer Lynn added, "Most importantly, they’ve bred a new type of parasite that can move around in the sunlight..."
Seraphina Sullivan raised an eyebrow. ’It seems this brother and sister duo aren’t as reckless as Nicholas Jensen. At least they’ve already figured out the Weaknesses of the parasitic variants.’
Somewhere, Nicholas Jensen, who was munching on a cookie, suddenly sneezed. "Who’s talking shit about me?"
However, he didn’t notice at all that the cookie he’d had so much trouble finding was expired.
"Indeed. Although these modified parasitic variants aren’t afraid of sunlight, they still retain their weakness to water," Seraphina Sullivan analyzed, tapping her fingers lightly on the armrest of her chair.
Summer Lynn and Troy Lynn looked at each other, their expressions dawning with realization.
They had been so focused on escaping before that they hadn’t noticed this detail.
"If we’re going to take down this base, we have to deal with the threats inside first."
A cold glint flashed in Seraphina Sullivan’s eyes. Since the "authorities" here were so utterly depraved, she didn’t need to hold back.
"Let’s introduce our Abilities to make it easier to coordinate later," Seraphina Sullivan said bluntly.
Summer Lynn cleared her throat. "My name is Raine Summers. My Talent is [Wind Speaker], and I can manipulate air currents to form Wind Blades or barriers."
Summer Lynn deliberately concealed her real name, demonstrating by letting a faint current of air swirl between her fingers.
Troy Lynn paused for a second, but quickly caught on and followed up, "I’m Tian Summers. My Talent is [Softening], and I can make any object I touch temporarily soft."
As he spoke, he touched the ground for a demonstration, and it instantly softened like modeling clay.
Seraphina Sullivan watched them with a half-smile, but she didn’t call them out on their fake names. It was normal to be cautious in the apocalypse; as long as it didn’t affect their cooperation, it was fine.
A Silver Needle suddenly flashed in Seraphina Sullivan’s hand, which she then condensed into a Dust Strike Sword. "Just call me Sullivan. My Ability is [Tailor]. I’m good at... sewing things. I can sew any two objects together."
She demonstrated by taking a rock and sewing it to another rock.
After the three of them finished their introductions, they exchanged a knowing smile, all of them aware that the others were holding something back.
In this Doomsday Game, this level of caution was perfectly normal.
"Let’s go."
"Right!"
The three of them drove the barely-intact SUV and slowly entered the industrial district in the northern part of the city.
The tires made a faint crunching sound as they rolled over the shattered asphalt.
Summer Lynn signaled for her brother to slow down, pointing to a factory building surrounded by walls in the distance.
"That’s the place," she said, lowering her voice. "The entire factory has been converted into an experimental base."
Seraphina Sullivan put on her Analysis Glasses and used Remote Locking on the grayish-white building.
Through the lens, she could see heavy concrete walls that were at least three meters high, topped with barbed wire. Armed soldiers patrolled the perimeter.
The entire base was as impenetrable as a fortress; it didn’t look like something that could be easily breached.
Seeing how heavily fortified the base was, she asked in surprise,
"How did you two manage to escape?"
Troy Lynn’s face instantly turned pale, and his fingers began to tremble involuntarily. "They... locked us in the same lab with a parasite... My sister used a Wind Blade to cut open an air duct... and I softened part of the wall..."
His voice grew quieter and quieter, the memory clearly too painful to recall.
"An air duct?" Seraphina Sullivan’s eyes lit up. "Does that mean you’re familiar with the base’s internal layout?"
Summer Lynn immediately understood what she was thinking but shook her head. "Because we escaped, they’ve definitely reinforced the defenses at all the entrances and exits. Going back the way we came is too dangerous."
