Chapter 260: Chapter 260: Jasper Drake and the Rules

A voice rang out, bringing the raucous scene to a standstill.

The noisy area fell silent in an instant.

Everyone realized that the personnel in charge of order in the safe zone had arrived.

The crowd looked toward the voice and saw Dexter Luther approaching, his face grim, with several personnel in tow.

His gaze quickly swept over the chaotic scene.

He noted the bizarre, human-shaped fragments of rock scattered across the ground.

Of course, his eyes also fell on the injured Crystal Lynn, whose face was pale, and the composed Seraphina Sullivan standing beside her.

His brow immediately knitted into a deep frown.

"Sullivan?" Dexter Luther’s tone carried a hint of a question. "What happened here? How did it get this chaotic?"

Seraphina Sullivan kept it brief. "It’s complicated, and I can’t explain it all in a minute. There are too many prying eyes here. How about we go somewhere else to discuss the details?"

She gestured with her eyes toward the surrounding onlookers, who were still pointing and murmuring.

Dexter Luther understood immediately and nodded. "Alright. Then come with me."

He signaled his team to clear the area and escort the involved parties away.

"Wait!"

Seeing this, the woman, who was still reeling from the shock, immediately objected.

As if clutching at straws, she shrieked, pointing a finger at Crystal Lynn and Seraphina Sullivan. "Officer! They’re murderers! They killed someone in public! They killed my... my husband! Arrest them! Throw them out of the safe zone! And this truck,"

She pointed at the broken-down truck, her tone becoming urgent, "is mine now! I’m his legal wife!"

Seraphina Sullivan: "..."

Dexter Luther glanced at the woman and stated officially, "Since you’re an involved party and have made an accusation, you’ll come with us, too. We need you to cooperate with the investigation."

The woman: "???"

She was dumbfounded, not having expected to be asked to come along.

「 」

Inside a temporary interrogation room in the safe zone, Dexter Luther got the gist of what had happened.

He looked at Crystal Lynn with a troubled expression:

"Crystal Lynn, I basically understand the situation. From the looks of it, you were acting in self-defense, and the fatal attack came from your pet, not directly from you. But..."

Dexter Luther’s tone shifted. "The safe zone has a clear rule prohibiting killing of any kind. It’s an ironclad law. Objectively, your actions resulted in a death, and it happened in front of everyone. The optics are terrible. And... this makes things difficult."

Crystal Lynn seemed to have expected this. She remained remarkably calm.

She just tightly held her younger sister Freya Lynn’s hand.

"I understand the rules. Whatever the safe zone decides, I’ll accept it. I only have one request: please protect my little sister, Freya Lynn. She’s still young and she’s innocent. As long as she is protected, I will have no complaints even if I’m asked to leave the safe zone immediately."

"Sister! No! I don’t want to be separated from you! I’ll go wherever you go!" Freya Lynn immediately threw herself into Crystal Lynn’s arms and started crying her eyes out.

The small interrogation room was filled with an atmosphere of sadness and helplessness.

Watching the two sisters, who relied solely on each other, Dexter Luther felt the situation was becoming even more difficult.

"You don’t have to worry too much. I can’t decide on the specific course of action." Dexter Luther sighed. "This needs to be reported up the chain. The final ruling will be made by the higher-level management of the safe zone."

After speaking, Dexter Luther turned to look at Seraphina Sullivan, his tone softening slightly.

"I have to say, Sullivan, I didn’t expect your Talent... to be so effective for healing. The way you treated Crystal Lynn’s wound looked very professional."

Seraphina Sullivan smiled slightly, wagging her finger in a half-joking, half-serious manner. "Don’t you underestimate me. Don’t forget my old profession. As a designer, needlework is a basic skill. Stitching up a wound and sewing clothes, the principle is more or less the same, right?"

Hearing this, Dexter Luther felt his brow twitch in exasperation.

’How can that be the same?’

Just then, the door to the interrogation room was pushed open.

Someone walked in.

The newcomer was tall and straight-backed. His face was wrapped in clean, white bandages that obscured most of his features, leaving only a pair of deep, tranquil eyes that seemed capable of seeing through anything.

He exuded a subtle yet palpable sense of pressure.

As soon as he entered, he naturally became the focus of everyone in the room.

His gaze slowly swept across the room.

When his gaze passed over the silent, shadow-like Sean Chandler standing next to Seraphina Sullivan, it paused for a brief moment, as if he had noticed something.

Then, his gaze landed on Crystal Lynn, the main person involved.

The man spoke, his voice steady and carrying a natural authority: "Dexter Luther, is this the Player involved in the killing incident within the safe zone?"

Seeing the newcomer, Dexter Luther immediately stood up, his attitude respectful. "Officer Drake!"

The moment Jasper Drake entered the room, Seraphina Sullivan keenly sensed that this person was different.

It was the kind of aura that only someone who had been through life-and-death battles and had extreme control over their own power could possess.

She almost subconsciously scanned him:

[Name: Jasper Drake]

[Gender: Male]

[Level: Level 2]

[Professional Skills and Talents: Plant Manipulation: Can accelerate plant growth, use them in combat, and produce toxins!]

[Skills: Close Combat Skill]

[Weaknesses: Flame and Ice]

Judging by the stats panel, he just seemed to be an ordinary Level 2 Player. His Talent was [Plant Manipulation], and his Skills were also relatively basic.

But Seraphina Sullivan’s intuition told her that the man before her was definitely not as simple as his panel suggested!

He felt dangerous.

’To think... there’s such a powerful expert hiding in the safe zone?’

Seraphina Sullivan was inwardly alarmed. ’It seems the official forces have much deeper foundations than they let on. They absolutely can’t be underestimated!’

Jasper Drake’s gaze landed on Crystal Lynn. His expression was placid, yet his eyes were sharp and scrutinizing.

"Before coming here, I was briefed on the matter."

Jasper Drake’s voice was still steady, with no discernible emotion.

"Your father, Damian Lynn, ambushed you with a knife in public, intending to take your life. Your pet, eager to protect its master, counter-attacked, resulting in his death. By all accounts, it’s justifiable.

Moreover, he had a history of stealing your supplies and abandoning his own daughter. Strictly in terms of right and wrong, you’ve done nothing majorly wrong."

Hearing this, Crystal Lynn’s tense shoulders relaxed slightly, and Freya Lynn also stopped crying, a flicker of hope igniting in her eyes.

However, Jasper Drake’s tone shifted, becoming cold and hard. "But, where you went wrong was that this happened inside the safe zone, in public view, and resulted in a death."

"A nation has its laws, a family has its rules. The safe zone has only just been established, and its regulations have been set accordingly. We cannot turn a blind eye to this for any reason. Once a rule is broken, it loses its power to deter, and the order of the safe zone will cease to exist."

His words were like a bucket of cold water, and Crystal Lynn’s heart sank. She lowered her head in silence.
