Chapter 170: Chapter 170: The Counterattack Begins, Nicholas Jensen’s Value in Group Battles

Outside the Shelter, the beams of searchlights pierced the profound darkness nearby.

But the night in the distance was as thick as undiluted ink.

An invisible pressure was spreading from the distant darkness.

It was as if something utterly terrifying was awakening, gathering, causing everyone’s heart to clench unconsciously.

In response to Seraphina Sullivan’s question, Dustin Sullivan shook his head, his expression grave. "The specific reason is still unclear. But I’ve thought it over carefully. Coco’s prophetic item is rarely wrong. The ’last day’ it predicted might not refer to the start of the tide, but rather... the moment the crisis reaches its peak, its most dangerous point."

Seraphina Sullivan’s face fell instantly. "You mean this disaster isn’t a sudden cataclysm, but a continuous process? We’re facing the prelude to the tide right now, and the real test might not even arrive until tomorrow?"

Dustin Sullivan nodded silently. This unspoken confirmation made the hearts of the few Players nearby who overheard their conversation sink.

A sustained disaster meant an unprecedented drain on willpower, stamina, and resources.

Just then, Drake Hayes, who was standing at the forefront and staring intently into the distance, suddenly let out a loud warning:

"Monsters are here! All hands, on alert—!"

Seraphina Sullivan stared intently in the direction Drake Hayes had indicated.

Outside the Fireseed Shelter, all the searchlights atop the twelve massive stone pillars and on the Wall instantly powered up to maximum.

Several incredibly thick beams of light tore through the darkness, instantly illuminating the distance!

The scene revealed by the light made the scalps of everyone on the Shelter’s Wall tingle, their breath catching in their throats!

As far as the eye could see, the ground was completely covered by a writhing "black tide."

It was a vanguard torrent composed of countless Night Rats and Night Worms, packed together in a dense, teeming mass.

Their crimson eyes merged into a terrifying sea of red light in the darkness, and they let out deafening, bizarre "SKREEE" sounds.

These monsters launched a suicidal charge toward the Shelter, completely disregarding their own lives!

And this was just the vanguard on the ground.

The sky above was similarly shrouded by oppressive shadows.

Countless Night Bats, Night Demon Moths, and other, even more bizarre flying monsters with flapping wings or leathery membranes swarmed toward the Shelter like a gathering storm cloud, blotting out the sky!

The drone of flapping wings mixed with sharp screeches, forming a storm of noise.

This scene, like a scroll painting of hell, made everyone on the Wall—be they battle-hardened Genetic Warriors or Players who had cleared several dungeons—feel an unprecedented sense of crisis.

Even the usually stoic Drake Hayes couldn’t help but cry out in alarm.

"This time... how is the scale of the night tide so massive?! This... This isn’t right at all!"

The number of monsters before them far exceeded any tide in recorded history!

However, reality didn’t grant Drake Hayes any more time to think.

The counterattack began in an instant!

VMMMM—!

Outside the Fireseed Shelter, the twelve previously silent, giant stone pillars lit up once more. At their peaks, eerie blue arcs of electricity frantically gathered and danced!

The next moment, countless condensed blue beams shot out like Mjolnir, carrying an aura of destruction as they targeted the densest areas of the monster wave!

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

A series of thunderous explosions rang out.

Each time a blue beam struck, it cleared a temporary vacuum in the tide of rats or the swarm of flying monsters.

Charred corpses and severed limbs flew everywhere. The power was terrifying.

However, facing the seemingly endless frenzy of monsters surging from all directions, even the powerful area-of-effect attacks from the twelve stone pillars seemed like a drop in the bucket.

Their attack frequency and coverage were not enough to completely stop the all-out assault.

Large numbers of Night Rats and some of the flying monsters fearlessly broke through the barrage from the twelve pillars.

Like black waves crashing against a dike, they continued to surge toward the Shelter’s outer Wall!

"Everyone—prepare for battle! Hold your positions! For the Fireseed! Charge!"

Drake Hayes’s hoarse cry rang out as he drew his saber.

Seraphina Sullivan watched the rapidly approaching black tide, her heart pounding faster and harder than ever before as adrenaline flooded her system.

It was her first time facing a monster army of this scale and ferocity. The overwhelming pressure was almost suffocating.

She took a deep breath, just about to warn Sean Chandler beside her to be careful and not overexert himself.

When a string of exclamations came from her other side, from Nicholas Jensen:

"Holy sh*t! F*ck me! What the... FUCK!!!"

These overly crude outbursts felt particularly out of place in such a tense, critical atmosphere.

The others didn’t even have the energy to retort, they could only shoot him exasperated looks.

Nicholas Jensen’s mouth was wide open, his eyes glazed over as he stared at the monster frenzy surging toward them like a black tsunami.

His expression, so shocked it was almost comical, was completely at odds with the grim atmosphere around him.

Everyone on the Wall was exasperated by his behavior, but while the guy was clearly wired differently, the Ability he displayed was impossible to ignore—and even inspired envy.

After a few days of getting used to each other and preparing for battle together, Nicholas Jensen no longer held back, fully demonstrating the power of his [Mobile Doll] Talent and [Metal Control] Skill.

The two Abilities complemented each other perfectly, giving him a significant advantage when dealing with groups of enemies.

Now, facing the surging tide of monsters, Nicholas’s advantage was on full display.

He took a deep breath, his eyes narrowed, and he thrust his arms forward!

In an instant, flashes of light appeared before him, and dozens of assorted firearms materialized—from submachine guns and assault rifles to light machine guns.

They appeared out of thin air, all of them transformations of his Mobile Doll.

And through his Metal Control Ability, they floated in neat rows before him like a living steel honor guard!

"Metal Control, full barrage!"

With a low shout, he pushed his spiritual power and superpower to their absolute limits.

DAKKA-DAKKA-DAKKA-DAKKA-DAKKA—!!!

Dozens of muzzles simultaneously spat dazzling tongues of flame. A dense rain of bullets poured down like a waterfall, forming a metal storm of projectiles with almost no blind spots!

The bullets traced countless searing trajectories through the air, precisely blanketing the Night Rat and Night Worm swarms at the very front.

SPLAT! SPLAT! SPLAT!

The sound of tearing flesh was endless.

Before this metallic torrent, enhanced by his Talent and magnified in power, the Night Rats and Night Worms fell in swathes like wheat before a scythe.

Even the few with tenacious Life Force that managed to break through the curtain of fire were picked off by precise, follow-up shots, finishing them completely.

This efficient and violent method of clearing the field instantly relieved some of the pressure on the people on the Wall.

Not far away, Julian Shaw watched this scene, a complex light flickering in his single eye.
