Chapter 102: Chapter 102: Bird Breeder Profession, Vampire?

Seeing Dexter Luther, Seraphina Sullivan was in a foul mood.

The thought of this guy dragging her into this dungeon was infuriating.

She didn’t want to deal with him at all right now. She had altered her appearance, so she just pretended not to know him.

Over on his side, Dexter Luther scanned the area several times, a look of clear confusion and bewilderment on his face. He muttered to himself, "Strange... The teleportation was correct... Is Seraphina not here? Did I get it wrong? Is she really not a Player? Ugh, what a waste of effort. Too bad... Oh well, I’ll just help her later, after she becomes a Player."

Seraphina Sullivan fought the urge to roll her eyes. She focused, and a faint golden light flickered almost imperceptibly in her eyes.

She activated Eye of Resume.

[Name: Dexter Luther]

[Gender: Male]

[Level: Level 2]

[Professional Skills: Talent·Shield: Can rapidly reorganize any substance, including Energy, within perceptual range and transform it into a Shield form with absolute defensive properties. Duration and defensive strength are dependent on one’s own spiritual power.]

[Weaknesses: Extreme fear of arthropods and multi-legged insects.]

’He can instantly turn anything into a shield with absolute defense?’

Seraphina Sullivan suppressed some of her anger and calmly assessed his Ability.

’This Talent... has high potential. That idiot... I guess he has what it takes to be reckless.’

Seraphina sighed to herself. Dexter Luther’s Ability was actually quite formidable.

But this wasn’t the time to dwell on that.

She quickly composed herself and focused her attention on the most urgent matter at hand.

She needed to check the mission for the Petrification Apocalypse dungeon that Dexter Luther had forced her into.

She focused her mind and summoned the system interface, which only the Player themself could see.

She carefully read the mission description.

However, the contents of the interface made Seraphina Sullivan furrow her brow.

[Main Mission 1: Survive for seven days in the "Petrification Apocalypse" dungeon.]

[Reward: Return to the real world after the mission ends.]

’Only one mission?’ Seraphina’s heart sank.

This was too unusual.

Based on her previous experience and knowledge of the "Disaster Game," dungeon missions usually included main, side, and even hidden quests, providing multiple ways to obtain rewards and information.

A mission structure this singularly focused often meant an extreme situation.

It definitely didn’t mean the dungeon was easier. On the contrary, this was more like an extremely dangerous sign.

The difficulty of this dungeon was likely so high that the system considered merely surviving to be the absolute limit for a Player, making any other objectives unnecessary!

An intense sense of crisis instantly replaced her earlier annoyance with Dexter Luther.

This "Petrification Apocalypse" was probably far more terrifying than its name suggested.

’I have to get my hands on any power that can increase my chances of survival, right now!’

Without a moment’s hesitation, Seraphina Sullivan chanted silently in her mind:

"Activate Worker Talent!"

[DING! Talent awakening!]

The system prompt responded to her call.

[DING! Awakening successful!]

[Congratulations Player! Your Worker Talent has awakened in the Petrification Apocalypse as: Bird Breeder!]

[Bird Breeder Profession]

Ability One: Bird Manipulation Technique

Effect: Can establish a Spirit Link with and issue basic commands to ordinary birds in the vicinity. The number, precision, and range of control are dependent on spiritual power.

Ability Two: Bird’s Eye

Effect: Can establish a stable visual link with any controlled bird, sharing its visual perception.

’Bird Breeder?’

Seraphina quickly processed the abilities of this new Profession.

’Controlling birds and sharing their vision... In this ruinous environment full of unknown dangers, the ability to scout and provide early warnings is crucial.’

’This Profession might not provide direct combat power, but its value as "eyes" and an "alarm system" is immeasurable!’

Seraphina immediately looked up, her gaze piercing through the cracks in the dilapidated hallway window. She scanned the gray, hazy sky, searching for any sign of birds.

Just as Seraphina finished processing the information about her new Profession and cast her gaze out the window, a deep voice, tinged with a sort of habitual authority, rang out in the dilapidated hallway, shattering the delicate silence between the Players.

"Let’s not beat around the bush."

The speaker was a somewhat older man.

He was in good shape, and his eyes swept over the group with the appraising look of someone accustomed to giving orders.

"We’re all Players who were teleported here. We all know the deal, so there’s no need to be secretive. This ’Petrification Apocalypse’ world feels sinister, and the system only gave us one mission: survive for seven days. That alone shows how serious this is. The difficulty of this apocalypse is probably beyond imagination! The chances of surviving alone are too low. I was thinking, why don’t we cooperate? If we pool our strength, we’ll have a much better chance of making it out alive."

Seraphina Sullivan looked at the speaker. Her intuition told her that in the real world, this man was likely in a long-term leadership position. The unconscious, condescending persuasiveness in his tone was quite obvious.

However, any Player who had survived this cruel "Disaster Game" and reached Level 2 was bound to be strong-willed and have their own means of survival.

Who would so easily submit to the leadership of a stranger?

The words had barely left his mouth when an undisguised scoff rang out.

"Heh, cooperate? I think you should worry about yourself first," a young man leaning against a corner sneered without looking up, fiddling with a dagger.

Immediately after, another voice spoke up, cold and hoarse. It came from a woman completely wrapped in inconspicuous black clothes. "We’re just a bunch of poor souls thrown into this world together. The system never said we were partners. When survival is on the line, anyone... could be an enemy."

These words immediately caught Seraphina Sullivan’s attention.

It wasn’t just because of the calm, almost cold-hearted statement, but also because when her gaze swept over, she caught a glimpse of sharp features and pale skin under the person’s hood. This was a Player with a Western face.

Seraphina’s interest was piqued. The faint golden light flashed in her eyes again, gone in an instant.

[Name: Grisha]

[Gender: Female]

[Level: Level 2]

[Professional Skills: Talent·Vampirism: Can rapidly recover from injuries by absorbing blood. To a certain extent, can also control her own and others’ blood for attacks.]

[Weaknesses: Severe photophobia.]

’Vampirism... and blood control?’

Seraphina was inwardly alarmed. This Ability was just like that of a legendary Vampire—bizarre and powerful.

No wonder she was wrapped up so tightly. It probably wasn’t just to hide herself, but also to block out the light.

After being bluntly rebuffed by two people in a row, a flash of anger crossed Chester Donovan’s face, but he seemed to be an expert at controlling his emotions. The anger was quickly suppressed, though his expression grew even darker.

He snorted coldly, his gaze shifting away from the two who had rebuffed him. Instead, he scanned the other Players in the hallway who had yet to state their positions, trying to find potential allies.

"Fine. If some people don’t know what’s good for them, so be it. There will be others who understand the value of unity."

His voice was laced with clear annoyance and disdain. He clearly had no intention of giving up on the idea of forming his own little group.
