[Essence: 60 → 210 (+150 points at 66,667 EXP per point at Level 70).]

[EXP Bank: 23,900,000 → 13,900,000.]

His Essence jumped to 210. Combined with passive regeneration, he’d hit his new cap of 430 in about eighty-eight minutes. Well before the Enforcers arrived.

At Essence 430, Dissolution of Form cost 100 per use. He’d have four uses. Four conceptual strikes.

Four chances to dissolve the rules that governed the Fate Enforcers’ existence.

He calculated survival odds with four uses instead of two. The number shifted from forty percent to fifty-five percent.

Better. Not good. But better.

He allocated another 3,000,000 EXP to INT.

[DING!]

[INT: 192 → 207 (+15 points at 200,000 EXP per point).]

[EXP Bank: 13,900,000 → 10,900,000.]

The tactical scenarios ran faster. More variables accounted for. More edge cases considered.

The Fate Enforcer timer continued its steady decline.

16 hours, 41 minutes.

He settled into the glass and waited. His Essence climbed. His mind processed. The wind carried glass dust across the empty plain.

Somewhere, far above, reality was preparing to correct him.

He prepared to correct it back.

---

The first sign wasn’t visual. It was physical.

Alvian’s VIT 855 registered a vibration in the fused glass beneath him. Not seismic. Not dimensional. Something deeper. A tremor in the fabric of what was allowed to exist.

He opened his eyes. The sky was wrong.

The grey clouds that had hung low for hours were pulling inward, drawn toward a point directly above the Wasteland. Not dispersing. Not parting. Being consumed. The cloud cover thinned as the moisture dissolved into nothing, eaten by something that didn’t belong in the atmosphere.

His Essence read 430. Full capacity. Regeneration complete.

He stood. The glass crunched under his boots. His cracked short-sword hung at his side, humming with Severing Void Edge’s resonance. His bones ached with the Clearwater mutation. His hands glowed faintly with residual dissolution energy.

The System interface flashed.

[DING!]

[Fate Enforcer arrival detected.]

[ETA: 4 minutes, 12 seconds.]

[Recommended action: Activate Sensory Enhancement Array now.]

[The System reminds the Host that visibility is important.]

He activated the Sensory Enhancement Array. Five KP spent. His perception shifted.

The world gained a new layer. Not color. Not depth. Something his brain struggled to process. Concepts became visible. The "structural integrity" of the glass beneath him was a faint golden lattice. The "existence" of the air was a shimmering film. The "identity" of the distant mountains was a collection of labeled frameworks, each one defining what those mountains were.

He adapted in seconds. The conceptual layer overlaid the physical world like a second skin on reality. He could see the rules that held things together.

Then he saw what was tearing through the clouds.

Three shapes. Not physical. Not energy. Concepts given form. They descended from the sky like falling stars, but they weren’t burning. They were defining. Each one was a walking rule, a law that had been given a body to enforce itself.

The first was tall and angular. Its body was made of crystalline logic. Lines of code made visible. Its face was a blank plane with two points of light where eyes should be. It radiated "correction." The concept of fixing what was broken. The concept of removing what shouldn’t exist.

The second was shorter and denser. Its form was woven from causal threads. Chains of cause and effect, visible as golden strings, wrapped around its body like armor. It radiated "necessity." The concept of what must happen. The concept of inevitable outcomes.

The third was neither tall nor short. It had no fixed shape. It flickered between forms. One moment a pillar of light. The next a shadow with edges. The next a human silhouette with no features. It radiated "erasure." The concept of unmaking. The concept of never having been.

Three Fate Enforcers. Three conceptual entities. Three walking laws sent to remove him from reality.

Alvian’s survival odds recalculated. Fifty-five percent dropped to thirty-one percent.

Three enemies. Four uses of Dissolution of Form.

The math was ugly. One use per Enforcer, with one spare. If any use failed, if any conceptual dissolution didn’t stick, he’d be fighting a conceptual entity with physical tools.

The Enforcers landed. The glass beneath their feet didn’t crack. It was rewritten. The ground around each one became "correct." Ordered. Perfected. The chaotic fused glass transformed into smooth, white marble in a three-meter radius around each entity.

They didn’t speak. They didn’t need to. Their presence was the message. They were here. He was an anomaly. The anomaly would be corrected.

The tallest one raised one crystalline hand. The air between them filled with text. Not written. Manifested. Words made of law, hanging in the atmosphere like a declaration.

ANOMALY DETECTED. SOURCE: ALVIAN VANCE. CLASSIFICATION: PROBABILITY DISTORTION ENTITY. ACTION: REMOVAL.

The fundamental right of reality to decide what existed and what didn’t.

Alvian raised his palm. His Clearwater resonance hummed. Dissolution of Form waited in his Essence reserves, ready to dissolve whatever concept he touched.

"I’m not going anywhere," he said.

The Enforcers moved.

The tall one flickered forward. Not running. Not teleporting. Redefining its location. It was here. Now it was there. The concept of distance didn’t apply to it.

The short one raised its causal threads. Golden chains lashed toward Alvian, each one a link of cause-and-effect designed to bind him. If they touched him, he’d be caught in a causal loop. Every action he took would be determined by the threads. No free will. No agency. Just cause and effect, controlled by the Enforcer.

The flickering one simply appeared behind him. No movement. No transition. It was in front. Now it was behind. The concept of position was meaningless to it.

Alvian’s AGI 290 triggered combat reflexes. His body moved before his mind finished processing. He dodged left, avoiding the causal chains by centimeters. The chains struck the glass where he’d been standing and the glass became "inevitable." It shattered along predetermined lines, every fragment falling exactly where the chains dictated.

The tall one appeared in front of him. Its crystalline hand reached for his chest. The touch would "correct" him. Remove the anomaly. Make him normal. Make him nothing.

Alvian raised his palm. Pressed it against the reaching hand.

[DING!]

[Dissolution of Form activated.]

[Target: Fate Enforcer Alpha.]

[Concept targeted: "Correction."]

[Cost: 100 Essence.]

[Essence: 430 → 330.]

The Enforcer’s hand didn’t dissolve. Its concept did.

"Correction" was what the Enforcer was. The law it embodied. The rule it enforced. When that concept dissolved, the Enforcer didn’t die. It became purposeless. A law with nothing to legislate. A correction with nothing to fix.

The tall Enforcer flickered. Its crystalline body lost coherence. Not falling apart. Losing meaning. It was still made of the same material. But the material no longer served a function. It was a sentence without a verb. A tool without a task.

The Enforcer collapsed into a pile of crystalline logic that had no application. Harmless. Purposeless. Removed from the fight not by destruction but by irrelevance.

One down. Two to go. Three uses of Dissolution of Form remaining.

The short Enforcer adjusted. Its causal threads recoiled, reassessing the threat. It had watched its companion become nothing and it learned. The chains retracted, pulling back to form a defensive web around the Enforcer’s body.

The flickering one appeared at Alvian’s left. Then his right. Then above. Its erasure concept pressed against his existence, trying to make him never have been. The pressure was immense. His Vitality held, but he felt his identity straining. Memories flickered. His mother’s face blurred for a moment. Leo’s laugh became static.

He was being erased. Not killed. Erased. As if he’d never existed.

He spun toward the flickering one and pressed his palm against its shifting form.

[DING!]

[Dissolution of Form activated.]

[Target: Fate Enforcer Gamma.]

[Concept targeted: "Erasure."]

[Cost: 100 Essence.]

[Essence: 330 → 230.]

The flickering Enforcer screamed. Not with sound. With absence. The concept of erasure that defined it was dissolved. It could no longer unmake things. It could no longer remove existence. It became a shadow with no function. A threat with no teeth.

It flickered once more and then simply stopped. Not dead. Not gone. Just irrelevant. A law that no longer applied to anything.

Two down. One to go. Two uses remaining.

The short Enforcer watched its companions fall. Its causal threads wrapped tighter around its body. It had learned from their destruction. It wouldn’t let him touch it.

The chains lashed out. Dozens of them. Each one a predetermined outcome. If a chain touched him, his fate was sealed. Every action he took would be pre-determined by the Enforcer’s causality.

Alvian dodged. He weave between the chains, but the web was tightening. The Enforcer was good at this. It had been enforcing causality for centuries. Millennia. Since the Cataclysm. Since before the Cataclysm. Since reality first needed rules.

He found a gap. A single window in the causal web. Three seconds where the chains realigned. He could reach the Enforcer in that window if he moved perfectly.
