Chapter 97: Chapter 97: Chen Feng

The man walked in with his massive figure, his presence was like a stone pillar.

He wore a crisp, dark green Federation military dress uniform, his broad chest was covered with rows and rows of gleaming decorative war medals and service ribbons.

His face was hard, cold, and entirely devoid of emotion.

Behind him marched a dozen elite bodyguards, heavily armored and clutching high-caliber assault rifles.

The moment they fanned out into the medical suite, the metallic clatter of gun barrels swinging up filled the room.

Derrick’s eyes flicked over the assault rifles, his pulse spiking for a split second. This man seems not much different from his brother. Wearing the army uniform even when he has not been on duty for a week. Although he is not as vane and shallow as his brother. He has unhealthy amounts of pride and need to display his power.

Without making a sound, he casually strolled around the edge of the bed and sat down right on the mattress beside the old general.

The old man blinked, looking down at Derrick with a mix of amusement and genuine curiosity. "What are you doing, kid?"

Derrick leaned in slightly, keeping his voice down so only the two of them could hear.

"I don’t really like guns," Derrick whispered back, his tone completely flat. "Especially when they’re not in my hands. Call it a bit of past trauma."

The general stared at him for a second before a low, gravelly chuckle bubbled up in his chest.

He nodded slowly, understanding the survival instinct immediately.

If those guards pulled their triggers, anyone firing toward Derrick would risk hitting the dying High General of the Federation.

But despite knowing this, he did not know who to feel about being used like that.

Derrick had just turned the old man into a human shield without batting an eye.

The general turned his gaze back toward the doorway, his eyes narrowing as he locked onto his son.

Chen Feng!

The man who had taken his place as a general after he was incapable of continuing.

The middle-aged officer didn’t even glance at the old man on the bed.

His sharp, icy glare fell straight onto Keira, the tension in the room dropping to an absolute freezing point.

"Have you completely lost your mind, Keira?" the man demanded, his voice like grinding stones.

He stepped further into the room, his military boots thudding heavily against the floorboards.

"Attacking the inner guards? Defying my direct orders in my own home?"

Keira didn’t say anything at first.

She just stood her ground, her jaw set tight, meeting his glare with raw ice.

It has been 5 years since I came back here. I wondered what he had to say.

Her father scoffed, a sneer twisting his stoic features. "You need to grow up."

"Haven’t you brought enough embarrassment to the Chen family name already?" he continued, his tone dripping with cold disgust. "First you abandon your post in the military. Then you turn your back on your own blood, running off to play mercenary in some pathetic guild."

He took a slow step toward her, his chest of medals clinking softly.

"And if that wasn’t embarrassing enough, you drag yourself down to some low-tier, backwater city... wallowing in the dirt and rubbing shoulders with absolute nobodies."

As the words left his mouth, his eyes flicked sharply toward the bed, landing squarely on Derrick.

Derrick didn’t flinch. Instead, he just flashed a light, friendly smile and gave the general a casual little wave, looking completely untroubled as he sat comfortably on the old man’s bed.

The blatant disrespect only caused the general’s brow to furrow into a deep, furious scowl.

Derrick might have shrugged off the insult, but Keira didn’t.

Her eyes flashed with fury as she took a sharp step forward, her voice cutting through the heavy room like a blade.

"General Chen," she spat, calling him directly by his rank and full title. "Aren’t you getting a little ahead of yourself?"

Her father’s jaw tightened.

"You’re already acting like you own the place," Keira sneered, her voice dripping with venom.

"Calling yourself the family head when there hasn’t even been a formal ceremony yet? You can’t even wait for Grandfather to close his eyes."

Her father’s stoic face twitched, his glare turning dark and vicious.

"What a disgrace," he spat back, his voice dropping an inch. "You’re just like your mother, darling to call your father by his name and showing such disrespect."

Keira didn’t let him shift the ground beneath her feet for even a second.

"You are deflecting now," She said with a cold smirk. "Did I hit a nerve? Don’t tell me, you are intentionally making sure the old man does not heal properly."

BOOM!

A suffocating, brutal aura of a peak Super Power Realm cultivator erupted from General Chen, exploding outward to crush every corner of the room.

Creack!

Thud!

The sheer weight of the pressure cracked the air itself, threatening to drop anyone weaker than him straight to their knees.

Before it could press down on her, Keira’s own aura flared up instantly, smashing back against her father’s pressure like a tidal wave hitting a cliff.

The two different colored forces, one red and one blue collided in midair, sending a localized shockwave rolling through the suite.

Sitting right beside the old general on the bed, Derrick heaved a quiet, internal sigh of relief.

Moving next to the old man had been 100% the right call.

No matter how they acted, the two of them were conscious enough to keep their aura away from the sick man.

Derrick glanced down at the bed, leaning in slightly. "Are you going to step in, or should we just let them tear the room apart?"

The old man sighed softly, then cleared his throat.

"Chen Feng," the old general called out.

There was no martial power or raw energy backing his words, but the sheer, ingrained authority in his gravelly voice was enough to instantly freeze the room.

Chen Feng’s aura faltered for a second, his eyes snapping toward the bed.

"Have you lost your mind?" the old general asked, his voice filled with such heavy, unmistakable disgust that his son’s hands trembled slightly.

"Releasing your full power on your own daughter? In my room?"

Chen Feng stood rigid for a moment, his jaw tight.

Slowly, bitterly, he reined his suffocating pressure back into his body.

The grandfather then turned his tired eyes toward Keira. "You too, girl. Stand down."

Keira shrugged casually and let her own aura collapse back into her frame, giving her father one last sharp glare.

Behind Chen Feng, the squad of armored guards secretly heaved massive, silent sighs of relief.

Their backs were completely soaked in cold sweat. No matter how powerful they were, in front of giants like Keira and Chen Feng, they had been a single bad second away from being turned into paste.

Just as the tension in the room was about to peak, sounds of footsteps echoed from the outside.

An attendant rushed inside the room before bowing deeply.

"General Chen!" the attendant reported loudly, his voice trembled as she gasped for breath. "Master Alchemist Feng Yuan has arrived!"

"He is waiting in the outer reception hall!"

The cold, rigid expression on Chen Feng’s face shifted instantly.

The anger toward his daughter was immediately replaced by a look of intense focus.

"Where is my brother. Tell him to bring the man in at once," Chen Feng commanded, waving his hand dismissively at the guards. "Directly to the suite."
