Chapter 95: Chapter 95: I am Psychic

"If it isn’t my favorite niece." A middle aged man with asian feature approached them from the other end of the corridor.

Following behind him was a young man who looked like a younger version of the man.

But unlike his father, he had a bored expression on his face.

And it changed the moment he saw Keira. A haughty smirk appeared on his face.

"Cousin Keira, how have you been?" He greeted Keira enthusiastically.

Keira didn’t even acknowledge the kid.

She walked right past the teenager, her boots clicking softly against the polished wood, and came to a stop directly in front of the older man.

The young man’s face instantly went cold.

He definitely did not like being treated like air clearly, but he gritted his teeth and forced his anger down.

He stayed quiet, mostly because his father was standing right there, and definitely not because he was secretly terrified of what Keira could do to him.

Nuh-uh.

Absolutely not.

"How is Grandfather?" Keira asked, her tone was flat.

It did not seem like she was talking to her family member but to a subordinate instead.

The middle-aged man didn’t seem bothered by her icy entrance.

"His condition is worsening," he replied smoothly. "Your father has already reached out to that famous alchemist he knows to come take a look."

The second those words left his mouth, Keira’s eyes narrowed.

Others might not be able to read her but Derrick could tell she was angry for some reason.

Her uncle caught the change in her expression, but he didn’t flinch or press the issue.

He simply changed the topic, turning his gaze toward the tall teenager standing beside her.

"And who is the boy?" he asked, studying Derrick’s sharp black suit.

"He’s my student," Keira said.

"From the academy?" her uncle asked, raising an eyebrow.

"No," Keira shook her head. "He’s my personal student."

"You took on a disciple?" Her uncle looked genuinely shocked for a split second before a polite smile spread across his face.

He turned directly to Derrick and extended a hand. "I am Chen Weian, Keira’s second uncle. And this is my son, Chen Kai."

Derrick shook his hand firmly. "Derrick Crowne."

"He looks to be about the same age as my son," Weian noted, looking Derrick up and down with genuine curiosity.

Chen Kai, still salty as hell from being ignored seconds earlier, saw his opening and jumped on it immediately.

"Since he’s Cousin Keira’s personal disciple and we seem to be around the same age, why don’t we step into the courtyard and spar?" Kai sneered, crossing his arms. "Let’s see what you’ve actually been teaching him."

Before Keira or her uncle could cut in, Derrick just smiled.

"I don’t mind fighting," Derrick said casually, his voice completely level. "But I don’t really think this is the time or the place to be throwing hands, do you?"

The response sounded calm on the surface, but to Kai, it felt like getting chewed out and lectured by someone his own age.

His face instantly flushed a furious, dark red. How dare this no name bastard! Who does he think he is talking to?!

"Derrick’s right," Keira said, not giving her cousin a chance to blow his top. She turned back to her uncle. "I’m going to see Grandfather now."

Without waiting for a reply, she brushed past the two of them.

Derrick gave Weian a polite, brief nod, completely ignoring the fuming Kai, and fell right into step behind her.

As soon as Keira and Derrick rounded the corner, the warm, polite smile on Chen Weian’s face vanished as if it had never existed.

His eyes turned cold as he swung around to face his son, who was still practically vibrating with rage.

"Did you see that, Dad?" Kai spat, his voice trembling with anger. "Who the hell does she think she is? Just because she was born a few years before me and happens to be a little stronger, she acts like she already owns the family!"

Kai paced back and forth, fists clenched tight in his pockets.

"She thinks she’s so high and mighty, but she’s just a damn woman—"

PAFF!

The sharp crack of a slap echoed through the empty corridor.

Kai’s head snapped to the side, his jaw tight, his hand flying up to cover his burning cheek.

Chen Weian stood over him, his glare terrifyingly dark. "How many times have I told you to watch your mouth?" he hissed in a hushed, dangerous tone.

Without waiting for a response, Weian turned on his heel and walked away, throwing two cold words over his shoulder: "What a disappointment."

On the other side of the estate, Keira led Derrick down a quiet, shaded wooden walkway toward the inner quarters.

"Aren’t you going to ask?" Keira said flatly, break the silence without turning around. "I mean... aren’t you curious?"

Derrick flashed a faint, easy smile. "About what?"

Keira rolled her eyes, throwing a quick glance over her shoulder. "About my family."

"I respect you enough to know you’ll tell me if you want to," Derrick replied, hands casually resting in his slacks pockets. "Besides, I already got the gist of your family situation anyway."

Keira scoffed softly, clearly not buying it. "Right. You figured all that out from two minutes in a hallway?"

"Well, for starters," Derrick said, ticking a finger off in his head, "you hate pretty much everyone in this estate."

"But you’re willing to drag yourself back to a place you despise just for your grandfather, which means you actually care about him."

Keira didn’t deny it.

"Then there’s your uncle," Derrick continued calmly. "He is a Vain and shallow man but others might see him as generous man who is down to earth and caring."

"Why won’t they, he tries way too hard to hide what he’s really thinking. He thinks he’s smooth, but he’s nowhere near as good at playing the politician as he believes."

"Otherwise, he would have been the head of the family already."

Keira’s boots slowed down slightly on the wooden floor.

"And his son is an open book," Derrick added with a light shrug. "Arrogant, insecure, thinks women are inferior to men, most likely he learned from what he saw."

Before Derrick could lay out any more, Keira abruptly stopped and turned around, staring at him.

"How the fuck did you learn all that?"

Derrick offered a small, mysterious smirk. "I’m a psychic."

Keira gave him a deadpan, unamused glare that could curdle milk.

Derrick chuckled, waving his hand dismissively. "Relax. I’m just good at reading people.

Plus, ninety percent of kids end up taking directly after their parents.

You can pretty much guarantee the father holds the exact same trash views as the son, even if he’s smart enough to put on a show in public."
