Chapter 109: Chapter 109: The Commotion

BEEP—BOOOPP!!BOOOOOPYYY!BOOONNB!

Sirens wailed across the skyways of the Capital as security forces, imperial guards, and elite enforcers flooded the air lanes.

Every major flying corridor was backed up in total gridlock.

Floating checkpoint barriers snapped into place, shutting down every exit path out of the city.

A massive EMERGENCY CHECKING! sign appeared in the sky.

Flashing red and blue emergency lights reflected off the sleek glass of thousands of trapped flying cars.

Armored Automated bots and drones were rolling down the streets and air.

They moved down the stalled lines of vehicles, using heavy energy scanners to check every cab, pod, and passenger.

Following behind them was a trained army of soldiers clad in black armor that covered them from head to toe.

Derrick and Keira sat quietly in the back seat of a simple, automated yellow air-cab.

The vehicle drifted along the sky-rail, hovering dozens of meters above the jammed streets below.

Derrick leaned back in seat, looking completely relaxed on the surface, but his upgraded senses were wide open.

He could feel dozens of high-level energy signatures moving through the air around them, watching from rooftops and floating platforms.

Not only that, he could see a swarm of drones moving through the air like a group of bird.

But these ones were armed with high caliber weapons.

Derrick glanced out the window at the swarming guard drones, then turned to Keira.

"Is the Royal Family really locking down the whole city just because a box opened for one second?" Derrick asked quietly.

Keira looked out the glass, her expression calm and sharp.

"They aren’t just locking down the city," Keira replied in a low voice. "They’ve deployed the entire imperial military."

"I got a message from the guild. They’re scanning every person and vehicle for any lingering trace of that pill’s divine energy. They want to find the person who made it at all costs."

"What if it was just one of the grandmaster alchemists in the city?" Derrick raised an eyebrow. "Wouldn’t they check with them first?"

Keira shook her head slightly.

"The fact that soldiers are already in the sky means they’ve already checked," she explained. "Every registered alchemist capable of refining high-grade pills is tracked in the imperial database."

"The military knows none of them created this."

"That’s why they’re panicking, they think an unknown alchemist who had been practicing illegally has entered the Capital."

Derrick glanced around before thinking about the box lying in the inventory.

"Should we be worried about these scanners?"

Keira gave a faint, confident smile.

"We have nothing to worry about," she reassured him softly. "The moment I closed that box, I used my own energy to wipe away every trace of the pill’s aura from our clothes and the cab."

She relaxed into the chair and looked up ahead with a faint smile. "No scanner in this city can link it to us."

A sharp warning chime suddenly beeped from the cab’s dashboard.

"Emergency security checkpoint ahead," the friendly AI voice announced. "Please stay seated while we clear inspection."

The cab’s thrusters slowed down, bringing the vehicle to a gentle stop right beside a floating security dock.

Two enforcers in full tactical gear hovered up to the cab using anti-gravity boots.

One of the drones flying beside them moved forward and pressed a wide-range energy scanner straight against the rear window.

A thin red laser swept across the back seat, passing over Derrick’s body.

The scanner hummed for a second, searching for spatial warps or divine energy leaks.

Beep.

The screen flashed a solid green light: No abnormal energy detected.

The enforcer squinted through the window, taking a long look at Derrick’s huge six-foot-five frame and calm expression.

Then they finally turned towards Keira, and their eyes flashed with recognition.

Without wasting a breath, the guard tapped his access key against the cab’s door panel.

"Clear," he called out to his teammate. "Send them through."

The cab’s AI chimed happily as the thrusters kicked back on.

Vroom!

The automated cab glided smoothly out of the main skyway and descended toward the private landing pad of the Chen Family estate.

As the doors slid open, Derrick and Keira stepped out onto the polished marble terrace.

They didn’t linger in the courtyard.

Walking side by side, they bypassed the main hall and headed straight down the quiet, secluded wing that led to her grandfather’s private quarters.

The air inside the hallway felt heavy with the lingering scent of medicinal herbs and faint decay.

Standing right outside the reinforced double doors was a group of senior family medical attendants and personal guards, their faces lined with stress.

The lead attendant bowed deeply the moment he saw Keira approaching.

"Lady Keira," the attendant began nervously.

"The Master’s condition has stabilized slightly, but his energy channels are still dangerously fragile."

"We were just about to administer his next dosage of—"

"Leave us," Keira interrupted, her voice cool, sharp, and leaving absolutely zero room for argument.

The attendant blinked, taken aback. "Lady Keira, with all due respect, his vital signs require constant—"

"I said, leave," Keira repeated, turning her cold gaze onto the group. "Every single one of you."

"Clear the corridor and make sure no one enters until I say so. I need to speak with my grandfather alone."

Recognizing the absolute authority in her eyes, the guards and attendants quickly bowed their heads.

"Understood, Lady Keira."

Within seconds, the servants filed out down the hall, their footsteps fading into the distance until the wing was completely silent.

Keira waited until the outer security doors sealed shut before pushing open the doors to her grandfather’s chamber, motioning for Derrick to follow her inside.

General Chen was propped up against a pile of embroidered silk pillows. His face was pale and haggard, but his sharp eyes still retained the residual authority of a veteran military commander.

"Keira," the old man rasped, his voice rough from weakness as he looked at her.

"Where did you run off to? I heard there is a commotion going on within the cur. What is going on?"
