Chapter 831: They Are Unhappy

Yu Hongjin paused, then quickly added, "Elder Sister Song, it doesn't matter if you don't understand. Anyway, it's... it's..."

She suddenly froze, as if realizing she had let something slip.

But unexpectedly, Song Bao hesitated for a moment and asked, "A ghost?"

Yu Hongjin's pupils constricted. She opened her mouth to speak, but then shook her head.

But Song Bao could tell from her expression that she was lying. That meant her guess was right.

Her Sister Zhishu was a ghost.

Song Bao was absolutely certain, yet a moment later, she began to doubt herself.

Why was she so convinced of something so absurd?

It didn't make any sense.

The only explanation lay in what had happened last night.

The river ghost...

Was it real, or just a dream?

Song Bao confronted this question once more. She paused, looked at Yu Hongjin, and asked, "Is Mister Chen an Immortal?"

Yu Hongjin blinked. She realized Song Bao seemed to know a little too much.

She hemmed and hawed, unable to come up with an answer.

"N-no, he isn't..."

"Oh..."

Song Bao let out a long hum. From Yu Hongjin's evasive gaze, she found her real answer.

It was truly a bit hard to fathom.

"Then is your Sister Yun an Immortal?"

This time, Yu Hongjin directly shook her head. "How could Sister Yun be an Immortal?"

Song Bao nodded. Come to think of it, her Sister Yun looked a bit old, and indeed not much like an Immortal.

Song Bao paused again and looked at Yu Hongjin. "What about you?"

Yu Hongjin's eyes went wide. "How could I be? If I were an Immortal, the world really would be turned upside down."

She paused, then added, "Actually, that's not quite right. There are folks like me who are called Immortals nowadays, but it's different from ordinary Immortals. Hmm..."

Song Bao watched Yu Hongjin ponder, not understanding what she was thinking about.

But she could roughly guess a few things.

Yu Hongjin probably wasn't an ordinary person either, just not an "Immortal" in the way she understood the word. Mister Chen, however, was a true Immortal. As for Sister Yun, she should be a mortal, but it was hard to say for sure...

Song Bao stroked her chin, falling into thought.

A moment later, she asked, "Why did you come here?"

"Just passing through," Yu Hongjin said.

"Then where are you going?"

"To Shangjing."

Song Bao was stunned. "I know you came from Qingshan City, but Shangjing is in the north. Why are you running toward the Southern Parts?"

Yu Hongjin shook her head and said, "I don't know either. Mister Chen wants to head this way. He said we need to take a detour through Yan Land and Jindi before finally reaching Shangjing. I don't know what he's planning to do."

Song Bao was a bit dazed, unable to understand what these people were trying to do.

But one thing was certain: they meant no harm.

Otherwise, why would that mister have saved her last night?

Song Bao fell into deep thought. She felt a bit excited—after all, those were Immortals. But she couldn't act rashly about many things; this was something her father had taught her.

She sighed and looked outside the inn.

"It's still raining," Song Bao sighed.

Yu Hongjin followed her gaze outside and said, "It's going to rain for a long time."

She could roughly pick up on a few things too.

This rain was unusual.

As the incarnation of a red fish, she was exquisitely sensitive to water. Naturally, she could sense the unmistakable trace of anger woven into the rain.

Song Bao paused upon hearing this and asked, "You know?"

Yu Hongjin blinked. "Just guessing."

Song Bao smiled but didn't expose her.

Before long, Chen Changsheng came downstairs.

Song Bao looked back, her gaze immediately locking onto Chen Changsheng.

Chen Changsheng felt Song Bao's gaze and looked at her in confusion.

Song Bao blinked at him, as if hinting at something.

Chen Changsheng frowned slightly, not quite understanding.

"Do you need something, Miss Song?" Chen Changsheng asked.

Song Bao said, "I just wanted to thank Mister for saving me last night."

Chen Changsheng was puzzled instead. "Saving you? Saving you from what?"

Song Bao smiled and said, "It's alright. It doesn't matter if Mister won't admit it, as long as I know."

With that, she stood up and said, "I'm going to help my parents. Mister, please rest for now; we'll be eating soon."

Chen Changsheng watched her retreating figure, shaking his head with a muttered remark.

"This girl is truly bold."

He sat down, then looked at Yu Hongjin, who was swinging her legs next to him.

"Don't you usually sleep until the sun is high in the sky?" Chen Changsheng asked. "Why are you up so early today?"

Yu Hongjin glanced at the rain outside and said, "The rain is too loud. I couldn't sleep."

Chen Changsheng nodded. The rainwater indeed carried the faint sound of complaints; it was Long Rong causing trouble.

"Is a True Dragon about to be born soon?" Yu Hongjin asked.

Chen Changsheng shook his head. "Unlikely."

Yu Hongjin was puzzled.

Chen Changsheng collected his thoughts and asked, "Is Miss Yun still resting?"

Yu Hongjin nodded. "Sister Yun went to sleep a bit late last night."

Chen Changsheng nodded slightly, then asked, "Speaking of which, what were you chatting about with Song Bao just now?"

Yu Hongjin quickly recounted their conversation to Chen Changsheng.

Chen Changsheng understood and could only offer a helpless smile. This Song Bao was quite clever. Even if her thoughts jumped around, she had indeed guessed correctly.

"Children these days are much smarter," Chen Changsheng chuckled. "Harder to fool."

Yu Hongjin blinked and looked at Chen Changsheng.

Chen Changsheng looked at her and shook his head. "That doesn't apply to you."

Yu Hongjin froze for a moment. "That's too much bullying for one fish."

Chen Changsheng smiled and said, "I didn't mean you're stupid. Look, despite your young age, haven't you also learned the craft of brewing wine?"

"Who—who are you calling young?" Yu Hongjin put her hands on her hips and said, "I'm very old, okay?"

Chen Changsheng nodded. "Yes, I remember when I first ran into you in Oulianfang, you were still rolling around on the ground at This Chen's feet, throwing a tantrum."

"Which pot doesn't boil, pick that pot."

Yu Hongjin smacked her lips and said, "I don't care. I'm not as smart as you, but I'm definitely smarter than Lihua."

"Lihua just reacts a little slowly," Chen Changsheng smiled. "In fact, it understands many things better than This Chen does. There's really no superior or inferior. Lihua naturally has its strengths, and you have your own merits. Why do you always have to compete?"

"That stinky cat and I are sworn enemies."

Seeing Yu Hongjin's fierce appearance, Chen Changsheng couldn't help but laugh.

"Alright, alright, go ahead and argue then."

Chen Changsheng simply felt this was the mischief of two children.

Before long, Miss Yun also woke up, though Physician Lin got up a bit later.

According to Physician Lin himself, one couldn't live a long life without enough sleep; his defining trait was simply being easygoing.

The Song Family couple had prepared a table of good food.

They had stewed Chicken Soup and cooked several other dishes.

Eating these in the morning seemed a bit heavy, but in such gloomy and rainy weather, no one cared. That bowl of Chicken Soup in particular truly warmed the body. One bowl down, and a person felt much more comfortable.

"Thank you all for your help last night. I, Song, thank you here."

Father Song repeatedly expressed his gratitude. Mother Song also stood up to welcome them, bringing Song Bao by her side.

Physician Lin was a straightforward person and said, "Let's not talk about that. As long as the child is fine, that's all that matters."

Everyone smiled, then picked up their chopsticks.

Song Bao drank her long-awaited Chicken Soup.

After taking a sip, she couldn't help but smack her lips, the rich aftertaste lingering endlessly.

Yu Hongjin glanced at her and asked, "Do you like drinking Chicken Soup?"

Song Bao nodded. "We don't usually get to eat meat. This is something we only get to eat during the New Year."

Yu Hongjin was probably still feeling embarrassed about yesterday's events, so she said, "I don't like drinking Chicken Soup. You can have mine."

Song Bao shook her head. "No, I couldn't."

"Take it, take it."

Yu Hongjin forced the bowl onto Song Bao.

Song Bao pursed her lips, thinking to herself that Yu Hongjin was indeed a kind child.

"Thank you."

Yu Hongjin nodded, feeling relieved only after seeing Song Bao drink the Chicken Soup.

"Rumble!!"

A clap of thunder suddenly rang out outside.

"Oh my."

The loud crack startled everyone in the room.

Physician Lin couldn't help but sigh softly. "I thought it was about to stop. Instead, it's raining harder and thundering again."

"You can say that again. It's been raining all night," Father Song nodded.

Lihua, who was eating its meal, blinked.

It leaped up lightly and ran upstairs.

"What is that stupid cat doing?" Yu Hongjin blinked.

Saying that, she chased after it.

"Hey, where are you going?" Song Bao asked.

"It's nothing. I'll be right back," Yu Hongjin called out.

Yu Hongjin followed Lihua upstairs.

Lihua heard the noise behind it and turned its head to look.

"Why are you following Lihua?" Lihua asked.

"Why did you run?"

"I'm going up to take a look."

"Look at what?"

"Looking at Lihua's friend..."

"What friend?"

"You have so many questions. You don't seem very smart."

Yu Hongjin smacked her lips and retorted, "You're the one who isn't smart."

Lihua couldn't be bothered to pay attention to her. It went upstairs and arrived at the attic terrace.

"Hey, stupid cat, aren't you afraid of water?"

"It can't get Lihua wet."

Lihua walked out into the rain, but not a single drop clung to its fur. It wasn't that the cat was blocking the rain, but that the rain was actively avoiding it.

Yu Hongjin was particularly astonished to see this scene.

Lihua raised its head, looking at the thunder and rain Spiritual Energy in the sky. A trace of distress filled its eyes.

"What's wrong with you?" Yu Hongjin asked.

"My friend is unhappy."

Lihua turned around and said, "They don't seem to want it to be like this."

Yu Hongjin scratched her head and asked, "Who exactly is your friend?"

"It's them." Lihua thought for a moment and said, "The rain, and the thunder. Hmm, but also different."

Yu Hongjin found Lihua's words hard to understand.

What they didn't know was that just below the stairs, Song Bao was listening to this one person and one cat talking.

Song Bao's face was filled with shock as she repeatedly wondered where that second voice had come from.

Was it that cat?

How could that be!

How could a cat talk?!
