“Wrong, I was wrong…”

Only then did Chen Changsheng stop, then said, “Tell me properly about this top level.”

“It’s completely empty!”

The Black Pagoda said, “Nothing has ever been placed into the pagoda top. It’s sealed off from the levels below, and there’s absolutely nothing else in it.”

“What is it used for?”

“For imprisoning people.”

“Huh?”

“Really, for imprisoning people.”

The Black Pagoda said, “The ninth level’s function is to separate the Devil Qi, Evil Qi, and Yin Energy. What did you think?”

Chen Changsheng gave a light humph, then skipped the topic, “What about the runes outside the pagoda?”

The Black Pagoda said, “Didn’t I tell you? They’re sealing runes, but not exactly the same. Asking me is useless, I don’t understand ancient script anyway. These symbols have been on me for a very, very long time. I only know their purpose, not their meaning.”

The Black Pagoda continued, “Anyway…”

“They probably seal off the lower levels, and also have some suppressing effect.”

“Is that so…”

Chen Changsheng said, “You’d better tell the truth. If something goes wrong when breaking the array formation, you’ll be the first thing lost.”

The Black Pagoda paused, then said, “I’m really not tricking you. That really is their purpose.”

Chen Changsheng then put it the pagoda away.

The Black Pagoda’s words surely contained lies, and frankly, Chen Changsheng also wanted to enter the pagoda to see what was hidden inside.

But Chen Changsheng had never been fully clear on the Black Pagoda’s origins and didn’t dare rashly enter, afraid of unforeseen dangers.

He pressed onwards and finally arrived at the Southern Garden.

Chen Changsheng looked up to see the sun slowly sinking in the west.

And his Soul Flame was flickering again too.

He paused, inwardly alarmed…

‘Better hurry up.’

With a thought, he dived into the Desolate Sea, then passed through the Stone Gate into the Southern Garden, one of the Thirty-Three Heavens.

Once again, he arrived at that ancient well.

This time, looking at the Ancient Script Array, Chen Changsheng felt a bit more confident.

He knew eleven ancient script characters. There was also one provided by the Black Pagoda, whose accuracy he wasn’t sure about.

Deducing carefully, Chen Changsheng mostly identified where the weak point of this array was likely located.

But arriving here, Chen Changsheng became troubled.

Simply dismantle it directly?

But what if something truly fearsome was hidden within the Demon Realm?

If he died, and this array formation was broken, it could unleash calamity.

Thinking of this, Chen Changsheng decided it would be better to set up another layer of his own array on the outside first.

So, he inscribed another Formation Array around the stone wall of the ancient well. Only after activating it did he feel reassured enough to focus on the Ancient Script Array beneath his feet.

“I want to see exactly what’s hidden in this Demon Realm,” Chen Changsheng said.

He raised his hand and slapped it onto the ancient rune script in the top-left corner.

Snap!

A crisp sound rang out, and a rumbling noise suddenly erupted beneath his feet.

Rumble…

Accompanied by tremors, faint light patterns spread over the ancient script.

Chen Changsheng stood up and took a few steps back.

Then he saw blood water begin to well up, little by little, from within the array formation.

The blood water swelled more and more, finally rising past his knees.

Then, amidst the blood water, runes and ancient script symbols flashed with light. As the well’s blood water surged, the runes and ancient script began to flow along with it.

Hummm…

A strange resonance sounded.

The flowing blood water underfoot suddenly solidified, like it had become a door connecting to another realm.

The door was right before his eyes.

Chen Changsheng hesitated for a moment, then took the step forward.

In that instant.

The door formed of congealed blood rippled.

Ripples spread outwards across its surface.

Within his gaze, he seemed to see a boundless, spreading sea of blood.

Splash…

As Chen Changsheng’s foot landed, the scene before him completely transformed.

A lurid, crimson crescent moon hung overhead. This entire hellscape was dark red.

The bloody water stretched like a sea; reefs washed over by it were stained crimson red. Overhead in the sky, conical mountain stones hung suspended, like little hills inverted and hanging in the heavens.

Devil Qi filled this Heaven and Earth. In every place his eyes could see, there were no living things.

It was silent here.

So silent there wasn’t a single sound, so silent not even wind blew, not even the sea of blood made any sound of flowing.

Looking afar, it seemed like a mirror surface, yet that sea of blood, crimson red, felt like an abyss, making one afraid to stare.

“So this is the Demon Realm…”

Chen Changsheng felt dazed for an instant. Recovering, he stepped forward.

Walking within this dark red Heaven and Earth.

The desolation and loneliness struck deep into him.

And this Demon Realm seemed boundless; his gaze could find no horizon.

Chen Changsheng summoned the Yuqing Sword into his hand.

Lightly leaping up, he began to explore within this Demon Realm.

“Devil Qi…”

Chen Changsheng sensed the pervading Devil Qi and followed its direction to search.

Could there be a Demon Cultivator still here now?

Chen Changsheng grew alert, constantly watching his steps and surroundings, his sword never leaving his tight grasp.

He searched as he went, keeping a vigilant eye everywhere.

Amid the dark red stones and mountains, he saw skeletal remains. Perhaps left by some Demon Cultivator, or maybe something else…

Everything here dripped with strangeness.

Chen Changsheng continued forward. The further he went, the more skeletal remains appeared underfoot.

Chen Changsheng landed to look closer. He reached out to touch one skeleton, only to see it turn into dust and fall away instantly.

He paused, frowning, “These people are not skeletons left after their Mortal Bodies rotted… it seems their flesh was stripped away, leaving only piles of bones…” The skeletons crumbled to dust instantly when touched, having been stripped of flesh long ago.

Who could do such a thing?

He pressed on, proceeding even more cautiously.

After a while longer, he saw thousands of skeletons scattered across a desolate plain.

Around the bones lay scattered weapons and Magical Artifacts.

But without exception, eroded by time into dead things, turning to dust with the slightest touch.

There had clearly been a battle here before.

Perhaps all these people were Demon Cultivators.

But what puzzled Chen Changsheng was why none of them retained even a trace of Devil Qi.

And in this vast Demon Realm, he could only sense the concentration of Devil Qi emanating from a single location.

Chen Changsheng furrowed his brow in thought, then ceased stopping and sped towards the source of the Devil Qi.

The faint wind kicked up by the flying Immortal Sword blew the white bones covering the rocky passes and desolate plain into dust.

Now the bones became more and more numerous, piled up like mountains.

Impossible to tell how many had died here.

What manner of great battle had it been…

Chen Changsheng frowned slightly, noticing the remains all faced the same direction – the source of the Devil Qi.

He increased his speed. As the Devil Qi grew thicker, a blood-red towering mountain appeared before Chen Changsheng’s eyes.

Chen Changsheng stopped.

His gaze fixed upon it, and he froze.

Upon the mountain cliff, a sword radiated intense Devil Qi.

Bathed in the dark red moonlight.

As if patiently awaiting its master’s return.
