Immortal Travel of Longevity

Chapter 598: The Personal Disciple of the Sect Master

  • Next Chapter

After all, such a high-class Immortal Mountain had great dignity.

But in the end, it all depended on the people; if it were just anyone coming, why would they have such an attitude?

Patriarch Yun looked at the disciple who was guiding them—a personal disciple of the Xuanjiu Immortal Mountain’s Sect Master. In his view, the Sect Master probably had the intention to come down the mountain himself to greet them. However, because there were too many people on the mountain today, it might cause talk if word got out, so he sent the disciple instead. This way, it was polite and didn’t give others a reason to gossip.

These matters were a bit complicated to explain, but such things happened everywhere.

Xiao Dongxu guided Chen Changsheng and Patriarch Yun up the mountain.

Along the way, he also introduced the various halls of Xuanjiu Immortal Mountain to the two of them.

“This is Xuanjiu Hall. Usually, when there’s something big, Master and the Elders discuss it here.”

“To the left of Xuanjiu Hall is the Formation Array Pavilion, to the right is the Talisman Pavilion, and behind it is the Library Pavilion. Also…”

Xuanjiu Immortal Mountain truly lived up to its reputation as a top Immortal Mountain in the Cultivation World. Its halls were especially complete, and the disciples here weren’t just focused on Talismans and Formation Arrays. Pill-making and forging were quite popular too. Talismans and Formation Arrays were the main focus, but the other paths were also very well-rounded.

Patriarch Yun couldn’t help but sigh, “It really is magnificent!”

Xiao Dongxu laughed, “Patriarch Yun, you’re too kind. Our Xuanjiu Immortal Mountain still falls far short compared to those flourishing immortal estates.”

“Being modest,” Patriarch Yun said with a laugh.

Xiao Dongxu then pointed the way, “This way, please.”

He guided the two of them past Xuanjiu Hall and arrived at a hall behind it.

He saw that an old man dressed in white robes was standing at the hall’s entrance. He looked gentle and kind, as if he was waiting there for Chen Changsheng.

Xiao Dongxu introduced, “Master, this is Mr. Chen, and this is Patriarch Yun from Qingyuan Yun Manor.”

“Good to meet you, Daoist Friend,” Chen Changsheng said, cupping his hands in greeting.

Patriarch Yun respectfully cupped his hands and said, “Good to meet you, Sect Master.”

Upon seeing this, the Sect Master cupped his hands in return and said, “I’ve been waiting for a long time. Please come into the hall to talk.”

“You’re too polite, Daoist Friend,” Chen Changsheng said, smiling.

Chen Changsheng and Patriarch Yun entered the hall, while Xiao Dongxu went to brew a pot of tea. It was, of course, top-quality spirit tea.

After one round of tea, the Sect Master finally spoke, “Daoist Friend Chen and Patriarch Yun, could you be from Qingyuan?”

“Yes!”

The Sect Master was surprised and said, “You both must be quite tired after your long journey. Why not rest at my Xuanjiu Immortal Mountain for a few days? I could offer some hospitality.”

Chen Changsheng replied, “I wouldn’t dare refuse your kindness, Daoist Friend, but I have important matters to handle this time. I’m afraid I can’t stay long.”

“Is that so…”

After hearing this, the Sect Master asked, “What kind of trouble could even make you, Mr. Chen, feel stuck?”

He felt a bit surprised—what difficulties could such a tall man, who had compiled the “Dragon Scripture” to command the Great Demon of Desolate Sea, possibly face?

Chen Changsheng said, “It’s about Talismans and Formation Arrays. I really know little about this path, so I wish to ask the Sect Master for answers.”

The Sect Master said, “Talismans and Formation Arrays can indeed be tricky in some ways, but which area do you wish to ask about?”

Chen Changsheng said, “Daoist Friend, have you ever heard of the Ancient Script Cultivators?”

The Sect Master was also a bit surprised when he heard those words.

“It has been a long time since I heard those four words.”

Chen Changsheng then clearly explained his confusion and reason for coming.

After that, he took out the Formation Diagram and handed it to the Sect Master.

The Sect Master examined that Formation Diagram for a long while, but then shook his head and said, “I’ve never studied the Ancient Script Cultivators path myself. However, my disciple delved deep into that path in his earlier years and might solve your doubt.”

Chen Changsheng asked, “Could it be Friend Xiao?”

“That’s right,” the Sect Master nodded. “This disciple of mine has a lot of curiosity. His mind often wanders to useless things—he’s dabbled in everything: Sword Cultivator, pill-making, True Flame, and even once started his own spirit farm to grow spirit herbs. Fortunately, he hasn’t neglected his training over the years, so I’ve scolded him less recently.”

As he said this, he called out, “Dongxu, come in.”

“Coming, Master.”

Xiao Dongxu then entered the hall. He first bowed to his Master, then bowed to Mr. Chen and Patriarch Yun.

The Sect Master nodded and said, “Disciple, I remember you studied Ancient Script when you were young. Is that right?”

Xiao Dongxu nodded and said, “It’s true, but I only followed books and learned a little bit.”

Chen Changsheng said, “I came here just to ask about this Ancient Script path. I hope Friend Xiao can help solve my confusion.”

After hearing this, Xiao Dongxu said, “You’re too polite, Mr. Chen. I, as a junior, will certainly help as much as I can.”

The Sect Master smiled and nodded, saying, “This matter is fully entrusted to you. Also, you can temporarily borrow books from the Library Pavilion.”

Xiao Dongxu felt happy upon hearing this. He cupped his hands and said, “Thank you, Master!”

The Sect Master looked at him and said, “Don’t think of learning something just because you see it or read about it, got it?”

“Master, rest assured, I always mean what I say,” Xiao Dongxu said, patting his chest to make his promise.

The Sect Master then said, “Be sure to treat Mr. Chen well.”

“Yes.”

The Sect Master nodded, then looked at Chen Changsheng and said, “Mr. Chen, please go with my disciple for now. Today is the mountain-opening ceremony to recruit disciples, so I need to attend that. Please forgive me if anything is lacking in the hospitality.”

Chen Changsheng said, “It’s I who disturbed you.”

After a few brief pleasantries, the Sect Master left in a hurry. As he left, he gave Xiao Dongxu a look.

Broadly speaking, it meant for Xiao Dongxu to act based on the situation.

Xiao Dongxu blinked to show he understood.

To put it plainly, finding out about the Ancient Script Cultivators path was surely easy if they just checked the books, but why did he hand it to his disciple?

Simply put, it was to help his disciple build a good connection.

Chen Changsheng obviously understood the Sect Master’s intention. He would help if he could.

“What Ancient Scripts do you wish to check, Mr. Chen?” Xiao Dongxu asked.

Chen Changsheng then handed over the Formation Diagram to him.

Xiao Dongxu held it up to his eyes and looked it over, then said, “I haven’t seen a few of them myself. I’m afraid I’ll need to go to the Library Pavilion.”

Chen Changsheng said, “No rush, just search slowly. If we can’t find it in the end, it’s fine.”

“Please wait here for a moment, Mr. Chen. I’ll be right back.”

“Okay.”

Xiao Dongxu then went to the Library Pavilion.

Chen Changsheng wasn’t in a hurry and waited there.

Not long after, Xiao Dongxu returned.

“Friend Xiao, you found out so quickly?” Chen Changsheng asked.

Xiao Dongxu laughed and said, “Honestly, Mr. Chen, I’m more familiar with this Library Pavilion than my own home. Naturally, that makes searching fast.”

After hearing this, Chen Changsheng wondered, “Then why did it sound like the Sect Master didn’t allow you into the Library Pavilion before?”
