Immortal Ascension Through Marriage: Investing in My Wife Get Returns
Chapter 390 - 389: Ten Arrows, One Demon King
For an instant, the winged Demon King appeared confused. Then recognition struck, and its expression twisted into one of savage delight.
"THE HUMAN COUPLE!"
Its roar swept across the battlefield.
"The targets of Lord Bai Sha have appeared! Their heads belong to me!"
The demon abandoned the cultivator it had been pursuing and spread its enormous wings. A violent burst of demonic power erupted from its body, sending it shooting upward toward the Golden Immortal Beast.
The surrounding air distorted beneath the pressure of its Void Refinement cultivation.
It had clearly identified Lin Yuan and Bai Qingyue as the targets of the Ten Thousand Devil Kill Order, and the promise of the reward had completely overwhelmed its judgment. Rather than considering the possibility that the two cultivators had survived their previous battles for a reason, it focused entirely on the opportunity to claim their heads.
The Demon King opened its mouth and released a bloodthirsty laugh.
"Do you know how much your heads are worth? Lord Bai Sha has promised rewards beyond your imagination! Once I deliver you to him, I will receive everything I have ever desired!"
It accelerated, its claws extending as it prepared to seize the pair.
Bai Qingyue watched the approaching demon without changing her expression.
"Allow me," she said softly.
Lin Yuan glanced at her, then nodded. He stepped aside, giving her an unobstructed line of sight toward the incoming enemy.
The winged Demon King was a Void Refinement expert. Against an ordinary Core Formation cultivator, the difference in cultivation would have been insurmountable.
But Bai Qingyue was no ordinary cultivator.
Her cultivation had advanced through the Yunqi Realm, and the Sun Shooting Bow in her hands possessed enough destructive power to threaten enemies far above her own realm.
Most importantly, she now had a Weapon Spirit capable of guiding its power.
Inside her consciousness, the little spirit’s voice rang with barely restrained excitement.
Master! Finally, we have a proper target! Let us show these arrogant demons what we can do!
Bai Qingyue raised the bow.
"Very well," she murmured. "Let us see how much power you can unleash."
The winged Demon King sneered when it saw her aiming the weapon.
"A bow? You intend to challenge a Demon King with a bow?"
Its laughter grew louder.
"Have you lost your mind? No matter how powerful your artifact is, your cultivation is only at the Core Formation realm! I will crush you before you can release a second arrow!"
Bai Qingyue did not respond.
She simply drew the string.
A brilliant arrow of solar plasma formed between the bow’s limbs, illuminating the surrounding sky with incandescent light. The Demon King felt the heat from a considerable distance away, but its arrogance prevented it from recognizing the danger in time.
It raised an arm covered in rotting iron scales, preparing to knock the projectile aside.
Bai Qingyue released the string.
THWIP!
The solar arrow shot forward.
The Demon King barely had time to register its movement before the projectile struck its outstretched arm. The rotting iron scales offered almost no resistance, and the arrow pierced through them as though they were paper.
Its forearm vanished in a burst of white fire.
"GRAAAAAH!"
The Demon King screamed.
It had expected the attack to be blocked by its demonic defenses, yet the solar plasma had burned through its flesh and bone before it could reinforce the area with its spiritual power. Worse still, the remaining energy continued to cling to the wound, burning with a heat that ordinary demonic energy could not easily extinguish.
The demon’s upward charge faltered.
Bai Qingyue had already drawn the bow again.
THWIP! THWIP! THWIP!
Three arrows crossed the sky in rapid succession.
The first pierced the Demon King’s left wing, incinerating the membrane and shattering the bones beneath it. The second struck the opposite wing, leaving the enormous creature unable to maintain its flight.
The third arrow slammed into the center of its chest.
A brilliant flash erupted from the point of impact, and the demon’s protective aura cracked. Its enormous body lurched backward, while a pained roar escaped its throat.
"What is this power?" it screamed.
The realization that it was being overwhelmed by a Core Formation cultivator filled its mind with disbelief. It had spent centuries cultivating its demonic body, refining its spiritual power, and strengthening its defenses.
Yet a few arrows had already destroyed its wings and injured its core.
It attempted to retreat.
The Demon King gathered its remaining energy and tried to tear open a spatial passage, hoping to escape before the mysterious weapon could fire again. However, Bai Qingyue’s fortune had already begun influencing the surrounding probability.
The spatial energy fluctuated.
The opening failed to stabilize.
The demon’s attempt to escape was interrupted by a sudden collapse in the spatial structure, leaving it exposed in the sky.
Bai Qingyue watched the failed escape with calm eyes.
"Trying to run already?"
She drew the string again.
Inside her consciousness, the Weapon Spirit sounded almost giddy.
Master, the solar resonance is accumulating. Keep firing, and we can unleash the bow’s full destructive power!
Bai Qingyue understood what she meant.
The first several arrows had already established a connection between the bow’s solar energy and the surrounding atmosphere. Every subsequent shot would build upon that resonance, increasing the destructive potential of the next attack.
The Sun Shooting Bow was not merely a weapon that fired powerful arrows.
It was a weapon designed to turn consecutive attacks into an increasingly devastating sequence.
Bai Qingyue released five arrows in rapid succession.
THWIP! THWIP! THWIP! THWIP! THWIP!
The five streaks of white fire tore through the sky, converging upon the wounded Demon King from different directions. Its remaining demonic defenses erupted in a desperate attempt to intercept them, but the arrows struck before the protective energy could fully stabilize.
One pierced its abdomen.
Another tore through its shoulder.
The remaining three struck its torso and limbs, each impact adding to the solar energy already burning inside its body.
The Demon King’s aura began to collapse.
