Chapter 511: Chapter 508: Swing the Sword

From Mo Ling’s perspective, the stone blade swung down hard, smashing into the captain’s head.

The captain collapsed on the spot, and the hand gripping the hilt loosened slightly.

By this point, Zhou Dynasty was completely entangled in the ooze.

Even though Mo Ling had just intervened to help, Zhou Dynasty was inevitably swarmed by the white shadows.

His body was covered in severed white limbs, and every spot they touched was left with a dark, filthy stain.

Zhou Dynasty’s body was hunched over, using the Holy Sword to prop himself up. Ooze streamed down his form as if he were wearing a suit of black armor, while the arms of the white shadows continued to claw at him, refusing to let go.

But he was gasping for breath, and yet, he actually laughed.

"I did it. I succeeded."

But immediately after, a gush of ooze sprayed from his mouth. The white shadows converged again, crawling back onto his body.

He recognized these white shadows. Most of them were people he knew...

Classmates from his school days, friends he’d made after coming to the Abyss, a neighbor he’d met a few times, the second-hand dealer who often sold him gear... All these faces stared at him expressionlessly as they slowly climbed over his body.

A WHOSHING sound, like wind, filled his ears, as if someone was calling his name, but Zhou Dynasty could no longer hear clearly.

It wasn’t just his eyes; his ears and nostrils were also full of ooze. Even breathing had become a struggle.

He’d saved the others, but who would save him?

The white shadows swarmed him again, only to be split apart by a Block-shaped void. But the ooze spreading across Zhou Dynasty’s body was irreversible. His consciousness blurred, and he collapsed heavily to the ground, sinking into the mire.

’I still haven’t... gotten them to the monitoring station...’ Even before losing consciousness, Zhou Dynasty was still thinking about how to save his teammates.

His falling body pinned the Holy Sword beneath him, and Mo Ling’s vision suddenly went black.

However, it didn’t end there. A faint light suddenly rose in the darkness. Mo Ling was very familiar with its color—it was the light of the Holy Sword.

The golden light tore through the darkness and bored into Zhou Dynasty’s body. When the light faded, Mo Ling’s perspective had shifted to Zhou Dynasty himself.

Pushing himself up with both hands, the golden-light-infused Zhou Dynasty coughed up black mud and climbed to his feet.

This time, Mo Ling was absolutely certain his perspective had become human.

’What’s going on?’

’Just a moment ago, I had the Holy Sword’s point of view, so how did it suddenly change to a human’s? Did I follow the Holy Sword’s golden light into Zhou Dynasty’s body?’

’And why would the Holy Sword do that?’

’Is it planning to control Zhou Dynasty’s body to finish what he couldn’t?’

The radiance completely cleansed the ooze from Zhou Dynasty’s body. "Zhou Dynasty" glanced at the Holy Sword on the ground, then ran directly toward the monitoring station.

Empowered by the radiance, his speed became incredible. It wasn’t long before he burst out of the rainforest and arrived at the monitoring station.

"What happened?" A guard at the monitoring station saw the frantic Zhou Dynasty and immediately stopped him to ask.

Zhou Dynasty opened his mouth but couldn’t say a word.

Not until the light on his body slowly dimmed could he force out a few broken words:

"Death Swamp... people injured..."

The guards weren’t fools. Hearing this, they immediately understood and quickly assembled a team.

"Take us there!"

Zhou Dynasty nodded and immediately led the way.

Before long, he had led the reinforcements to the part of the rainforest where his team had met with disaster.

"Don’t get close! Use the robots to move them out!" The guards directly dispatched several transport robots, which carried the unconscious teammates out one by one.

The guards were very experienced. Seeing the ooze-covered team members, they instantly knew what had happened and immediately sent them back to the monitoring station.

After rescuing everyone, they returned methodically to the monitoring station and sent all the unconscious team members to the medical bay.

Once everything was handled, Zhou Dynasty sat on a chair outside the medical bay, a look of confusion on his face.

He stared at his hands in a daze, then took the nameplate from his chest and gazed at it blankly.

"Zhou Dynasty?" A guard walked up to him, looking at him cradling the nameplate, and asked with confusion.

Zhou Dynasty glanced at the nameplate, then nodded numbly.

The guard retrieved the Holy Sword from the transport vehicle behind him and handed it to Zhou Dynasty.

"You left this behind, right? We checked the records; it should be yours."

Zhou Dynasty took the Holy Sword back and swung it a couple of times, a bit awkwardly.

The doors to the medical bay soon opened, and several doctors in white coats walked out. Seeing Zhou Dynasty holding the Holy Sword outside, they exchanged glances before one of them approached.

"Most of them were saved, but for three of them, the ooze had already entered their brains and lungs. They couldn’t be saved. We also couldn’t find the source of the Death Swamp..." the doctor said apologetically, also telling Zhou Dynasty the names of those who had died.

But Zhou Dynasty just nodded blankly, seemingly having no reaction to the names.

He studied Zhou Dynasty for a moment, then asked strangely, "Weren’t you affected by the Death Swamp? Did you just run straight to the monitoring station?"

Hearing the doctor’s question, Zhou Dynasty was at a loss, nodding in a bewildered daze.

But just then, a family member who had been listening nearby suddenly rushed forward and grabbed Zhou Dynasty by the collar. "Why didn’t you save them?"

"If you had knocked them out in time, they wouldn’t have died! If you were the one who was cursed, would you want your teammates to just abandon you and flee? Can’t you feel any empathy at all?"

Zhou Dynasty stared blankly at the family member who had appeared so suddenly, his eyes filled with confusion. But this look only enraged the man further.

"Don’t you have a heart?"

The family member questioned him, still yanking his collar, but he was quickly pulled away by the monitoring station’s guards.

"Sorry about that..."

"Did I... do something wrong?" Zhou Dynasty asked haltingly.

"Of course not. The family member was just overwrought. Please try to understand."

The guard turned and led the family member away, explaining what had happened as they went.

Zhou Dynasty stood there in a daze, trying to make sense of it all.

He wanted to follow and hear what the guard was saying, but a BUZZING in his ears made him stop.

The Holy Sword in his hand glowed faintly, but its light was dimming.

People came and went in the monitoring station. He watched them, but he didn’t know where he should go, his heart filled with confusion.

So he picked up the nameplate again, staring at the name on it for a long time.

"Zhou Dynasty... Zhou Dynasty?"

He looked at the name and recited it in confusion.

’Am I Zhou Dynasty?’

He lifted his head and looked around. The recent commotion had attracted a lot of people, and their gazes were all probing. But Zhou Dynasty didn’t understand what their looks meant; he only felt a little scared.

Standing in the center of the monitoring station, "Zhou Dynasty" was like a newborn, curiously and fearfully observing this strange new world.
