I'm the Only Magus in This Witch World
Chapter 120: Grinding Stat Points (Part 1)
"How should I even go about checking out my new body?" Magna, standing in the middle of the training ground, sighed as he looked at the training equipment scattered around.
After leaving his room, the first thing he had done was come here to check the effect of his current Stamina stat.
The training equipment scattered around was fairly classic, most of it resembling the kind you’d find back on Earth, like dumbbells of different weights, a bench press, large round stones meant to be lifted and lowered, and so on.
But since Magna didn’t know much about gym equipment, he felt like he needed a personal trainer or something.
He considered calling Titus to get a bit of advice from him, but after thinking it over for a moment, he gave up on the idea, not wanting to alarm the man with his upgraded fortitude.
’Oh, fortitude might actually suit the term better than stamina.’ The thought crossed his mind briefly as he headed toward the weights.
There were dumbbells of many different weights, the lightest being 100 kilos, the heaviest going up to 1500.
Magna had seen before that Titus could actually complete his daily training with one ton of dumbbells fairly easily, so he tried approaching one and picking it up himself.
But as soon as he tried to lift it, it didn’t budge even slightly.
"He really is a monster in his own right." His face turning bright red from the strain, he let go of the weight.
During his time training with Titus, Magna had learned quite a few things about him over time.
Especially about his bloodline trait.
The man had a trait that increased his physical strength as he aged. Since the man was 87 years old, his strength stat was quite high in game terms.
According to Magna’s rough estimate, based on what he had seen, his raw muscle strength alone had to correspond to at least a strength stat of 500 to 600.
Magna then turned to the 100-kilo weights and tried his luck with those instead.
With his strength stat now sitting at 18, roughly three times that of a normal adult, he wasn’t exactly weak.
But as he lifted the dumbbell, he couldn’t even complete a single bicep curl before letting go of the weight.
Just being able to lift the weight into that position at all was already fairly impressive, since even most adults who trained regularly didn’t usually work with more than 10 kilos.
Since there were no weights lighter than 100 kilos, he started looking for something else his strength would actually be suited to.
He could do push ups and similar exercises using his own body weight, but even that wasn’t very practical, since he still had the body of a child.
Working out with the body weight of someone with three times an adult’s strength didn’t really make much sense for him.
Finally, his eyes landed on the weapon rack.
There were many types of cold weapons there, each made of real steel, sharpened, well maintained, and ready for battle.
One weapon in particular caught his attention. Or rather, two of them.
Two maces stood side by side, their heads entirely round and studded with sharp spikes, made completely of metal all the way down to the handle.
Magna walked closer and picked one up, finding its weight quite manageable, around 30 to 40 kilos.
He picked up the other one as well in his other hand and started swinging them.
He had never wielded a mace before, or any weapon this heavy. His experience as a cold blooded assassin hadn’t given him much knowledge of this weapon type either.
But drawing on his dagger knowledge, he started moving them as if he were just holding somewhat heavier daggers.
They were still heavy enough to keep him from executing every move he wanted, but starting with more basic movements like slashes, stabs, and swings, he began to get used to them.
As he continued his exercise, he also started to feel the effect of his body’s endurance, not feeling even the slightest bit tired even after 10 minutes of nonstop movement.
If anything, the weights even started to feel a little lighter in his hands.
He soon realized the reason as a blue text popped up in front of his vision.
[Your Strength increased by 1.]
"Nice." He murmured, satisfied, as he continued his movements.
Normally, despite nearly a week of training with Titus, his Strength had only gone up by 1 before, though back then he hadn’t been all that invested and had slacked off on his training a bit.
But now, seeing his stat go up by 1 after just 10 minutes of weighted dagger movement practice, he finally felt the motivation he had been lacking all this time.
Since he was still far from feeling tired, he kept training for a full hour, repeating the same movements without stopping.
Finally, when his arms started to spasm and ache, and sweat had soaked through all his clothes, he finally stopped.
Strength: 23
Agility: 16
Reaction: 16
Stamina: 102
Mana 8.2%
His Strength had gone up by a total of 5 from just an hour of training, meaning he had gained nearly one adult’s worth of power in that short amount of time.
He wanted people to call him Magus in the future, but at this rate, he was going to end up being called one punch wizard or something instead.
Though it wasn’t like his stat would keep increasing at this pace forever, since as he continued training, the system messages announcing his strength increases started coming at longer intervals, meaning the stronger he got, the harder it became to raise the stat further.
After resting for 10 minutes and drinking the water a maid brought him, he picked up the two maces again and kept up his training.
His aim was to improve his stat as much as possible before lunch.
—
"Aren’t those things heavier than his own body? Won’t he hurt himself?" A maid standing off to the side, watching Magna move the two heavy weapons, asked with a slightly worried voice.
Since Magna had started his training, it had caught the attention of quite a few maids, with five of them already gathered at the edge of the training ground.
At first they had come rushing over in worry, thinking the boy would hurt himself playing around with the weapons.
But once they saw how experienced he looked, handling the maces with ease, they just stood there and kept watching.
"Did you think the young lord was an ordinary kid?" Another maid beside her answered with a low chuckle.
Since the maids had already grown quite close to Magna, thanks to his regular visits to the kitchen, they had always just seen him as a talented kid.
The way he handled a knife had already been quite the topic of gossip and astonishment among their circle, but that was about the extent of it.
But now, seeing his thin frame actually lift those heavy weapons and swing them so comfortably, they finally realized just how wrong their impressions of him had been all this time.
While the maids kept talking among themselves, praising him and watching the boy in amazement, a voice behind them suddenly made them flinch.
"What’s going on here."
