Chapter 93: Chapter 90: Monster in the Mirror

After leaving the storeroom, Lin Tianyang took Gu Qing straight to the Human Resources department to get his onboarding paperwork processed ahead of schedule.

A moment later, the two of them arrived at the Human Resources department.

Just like the medical building earlier, the Human Resources office also had only one person on the night shift.

Gu Qing glanced at the person.

’Hmm, it’s someone I know. The pretty girl with glasses, Jiang Wanqiao.’

Jiang Wanqiao was currently sitting alone in the office.

She was completely engrossed in a book.

She didn’t notice the two of them arriving outside the door at all.

"Yo!"

Lin Tianyang walked up to Jiang Wanqiao and suddenly called out to her.

"AH!"

Jiang Wanqiao was startled, her body trembling violently. She let out a shriek, and the book in her hands nearly slipped and fell to the floor.

After a good while, she finally calmed down, looked up at Lin Tianyang, and said with a look of resentment:

"Hey, what was that for!"

"Scaring me like that all of a sudden in the middle of the night!"

"You’ll give me a heart attack!"

"..."

Lin Tianyang chuckled. "Whose fault is it for slacking off so intently that you don’t even notice someone coming in?"

"I’m the only one on duty this late. If I don’t slack off, what else is there to do?"

Jiang Wanqiao shot Lin Tianyang an annoyed glare.

After speaking, she adjusted the scholarly black-rimmed glasses on her nose, and her gaze shifted to Gu Qing beside her.

A gentle smile then touched her lips as she asked softly:

"Gu Qing, what brings you to the Night Court at this hour?"

"Wow, Wanqiao, you roll your eyes when you talk to your Brother Yang, but you’re all smiles and gentle tones for the handsome college student. This is a blatant double standard!"

Lin Tianyang expressed his dissatisfaction.

However, Jiang Wanqiao ignored him, her attention focused entirely on Gu Qing.

Gu Qing smiled. "I’m here to complete my onboarding paperwork early."

"Onboarding early?"

Jiang Wanqiao habitually adjusted her glasses, her delicate, oval face showing a hint of confusion. "But it’s not time for onboarding yet. Some of the procedures haven’t been completed, so I can’t process your paperwork."

Lin Tianyang said, "It’s fine, just go ahead and process it. Steward Tian already spoke with your department head."

"Oh, really?"

Jiang Wanqiao took out her phone and opened the Yeshuo app to check.

A quick look confirmed it was true. A few minutes ago, her supervisor had sent her a message, telling her to process Gu Qing’s onboarding paperwork early.

After replying to her supervisor with a "Received," Jiang Wanqiao stood up from her office chair, looked up at Gu Qing, and smiled slightly.

"Come with me. I’ll take you to get your onboarding done."

"Thank you for your trouble."

Gu Qing replied politely.

Soon, Jiang Wanqiao began methodically handling the various procedures for Gu Qing.

First, she processed Gu Qing’s leave of absence from school, sending the relevant documents directly to the Hai City University administration’s email in the form of an official notice from a higher authority.

Then, in the same manner, she notified the local public security department to strictly conceal all personal information about Gu Qing and his family, and also arranged for dedicated security personnel to secretly protect his family.

Next, she had Gu Qing fill out various forms, which were then bound and sealed.

The final step was to register a Yeshuo account for Gu Qing.

After the account was registered, Gu Qing logged in as instructed.

The first step was to choose a username.

He thought for a moment.

Gu Qing directly set his name as—I Don’t Eat Beef.

Username set successfully.

He was automatically taken to the Yeshuo app’s main page.

The first thing Gu Qing did was tap on the internal members’ section.

He then clicked the search box in the top-right corner.

And searched for the name Bai Ningyu.

The result was the same as when Lin Tianyang had searched last time; no one named Bai Ningyu could be found.

’Just what kind of Superpower did Ningyu awaken?’

’Why is she so mysterious?’

Gu Qing frowned.

He then cleared the name Bai Ningyu from the search box.

And instead typed in the name Liu Zhiyi.

To be honest, he was quite curious about his beautiful and wealthy former English teacher and wanted to check out her Yeshuo profile.

The search results appeared instantly.

Gu Qing clicked to view Liu Zhiyi’s account profile.

He found there wasn’t much information to see.

All he could see was that her position was Captain.

"Gu Qing, all your onboarding paperwork is done. When do you plan to officially report for duty?"

Lin Tianyang asked, looking at Gu Qing.

Before Gu Qing could answer, Jiang Wanqiao, who was standing to the side, spoke up. "There’s no rush. He just needs to report within ten days."

’Within ten days?’

Gu Qing thought for a moment and said, "In that case, I’ll choose to report next Monday. I’ll use the rest of this week to go back to my dorm to pack my things, then go home to spend some time with my parents and take a few days off."

Jiang Wanqiao smiled gently. "Okay, I’ll register that for you. When you report for duty, we’ll have your supplies ready for you in advance, like the standard-issue black trench coat for the Field Operations Department’s grassroots members."

Lin Tianyang got up and walked towards the balcony, tossing a sentence over his shoulder to the two of them. "You two chat for a bit. I’m going out for a smoke to relax."

After he left, Gu Qing and Jiang Wanqiao started to chat idly.

He looked at the gray-blue book on Jiang Wanqiao’s desk. The cover was in Spanish, and he recognized it as an original edition of *One Hundred Years of Solitude*. He couldn’t help but say admiringly:

"As expected of a top student from Jinghai University. You even read foreign classics in the original language. As a foreign language student myself, I feel inadequate in your presence."

"Not at all. I’m just skimming through it. I don’t understand a lot of it, actually. I’m relying entirely on my phone’s translator."

Jiang Wanqiao said humbly.

Gu Qing said curiously, "Speaking of which, I’ve never seen what an original copy of *One Hundred Years of Solitude* looks like. Mind if I take a look?"

As he spoke, he stood up from his chair and reached for the copy of *One Hundred Years of Solitude* on the desk.
