I'm Already a God, and You're Only Now Telling Me There Are Monsters?
Chapter 92 - 89: Extraordinary Reward
Chapter 92: Chapter 89: Extraordinary Reward
Steward Tian had already watched the recording of the recruitment test last night and was well aware that Gu Qing possessed Physical Strength far exceeding an ordinary person’s.
Even so, he now sized up Gu Qing with a hint of curiosity and nodded slightly.
"Not bad. You cut a fine figure."
This was merely a polite, perfunctory compliment.
After all, in the eyes of the Field Operations Department’s top man, the only thing worth complimenting about an Extraordinary Contactor like Gu Qing was his appearance.
As for his strength...
No matter how great Gu Qing’s Physical Strength was, he was still just an Extraordinary Contactor. In the eyes of a powerhouse like Steward Tian, that was nothing worth praising.
"This is our Field Operations Department’s boss. He’s known as Steward Tian to outsiders, but within the department, we all call him ’Chief.’"
Lin Tianyang introduced Steward Tian to Gu Qing.
Gu Qing wasn’t slow on the uptake. The moment he heard this, he called out to Steward Tian, "Chief."
Steward Tian nodded in response.
Then he asked:
"Tianyang tells me you single-handedly captured a fully transformed Ratman alive?"
"Yes."
Gu Qing nodded frankly.
Steward Tian’s expression remained placid. "Not bad. Commendable courage. Our Field Operations Department needs bold young people like you."
He paused, then continued, "Your Brother Yang brought you here, presumably to request a reward on your behalf. I understand. I’ll have it arranged for you by tomorrow."
Lin Tianyang seized the opportunity to press the advantage. "Chief, a recruit who hasn’t even officially joined yet managed to take down a fully transformed Ratman all by himself. That’s a huge contribution. Surely that’s worth a reward of some Extraordinary Resources?"
Steward Tian fell silent for a moment before nodding in agreement. "Since you’ve put it that way, fine. Give him a basic-level Extraordinary Resource. You can take him to the warehouse now and let him pick one out himself."
’I actually got an Extraordinary Resource as a reward?’
Gu Qing felt a surge of excitement.
Meanwhile, Lin Tianyang practically kowtowed. "Chief, you are truly wise and mighty!"
Gu Qing felt a little awkward, but he had no choice but to join in the flattery. "The Chief is wise and mighty!"
Steward Tian waved his hand impatiently. "Enough, enough. You have your reward, so hurry up and go to the warehouse to choose. Don’t stay here and bother me while I’m working."
Lin Tianyang pressed his luck. "Chief, since he’s already here, why don’t I take him over to HR now and get his onboarding paperwork done early? You just need to give them a heads-up on Night Talk."
Steward Tian picked up his phone and gave a simple instruction to the HR department.
He then waved them away again. "Alright, I’ve notified HR. Now, if you’re done, get out of my sight."
"You’re busy, Chief. We’ll head out now."
Lin Tianyang said with a chuckle.
With that, he led Gu Qing out of the office.
Once they were outside,
Lin Tianyang shot Gu Qing a smug look.
"So? Your Brother Yang is pretty dependable, right? Just a few words and I scored you an Extraordinary Resource reward. Well, even if it is just the most basic tier."
"You’re the man, Brother Yang!"
Gu Qing gave Lin Tianyang a thumbs-up.
Lin Tianyang flicked his side-swept bangs. "Let’s go. I’ll take you to our Night Court’s warehouse and blow your mind."
...
At the entrance to the Night Court warehouse.
Lin Tianyang took his phone out of his pocket, pulled up the authorization credential Steward Tian had just approved, and presented it to the warehouse staff for verification.
The staff member glanced at the approval information.
After confirming it was all in order,
he led Lin Tianyang and Gu Qing inside.
The moment he stepped into the warehouse,
Gu Qing, who had never encountered anything Extraordinary before, was instantly and utterly stunned by the dazzling array of treasures before him.
There were strange flowers and exotic herbs overflowing with Spiritual Qi.
There were Miracle Elixirs that could revive the dead and regenerate flesh from bone.
There were also spatial items like Storage Pouches, Storage Rings, and Storage Bracelets—the kind only seen in Cultivation novels.
If that had been all, Gu Qing wouldn’t have been rooted to the spot in a daze.
What truly made him stand there dumbfounded were the three Extraordinary Treasures hanging suspended in mid-air from the warehouse ceiling.
The Thunderfire Sword, its blade crackling with lightning, its hilt surging with flames.
The Storm Crossbow, a powerful airflow surging around its body.
The Black Night Cloak, with shimmering stars swirling around it.
Seeing Gu Qing’s eyes glued to these three centerpiece treasures the moment he walked in, Lin Tianyang explained with a smile:
"These three Extraordinary Treasures are the Court Master’s personal equipment, specifically hung here for display."
"Of course, they can also be given out as rewards for extraordinary merit."
"But the merit would have to be astronomically high."
"For example, if you stepped up and saved the entire Night Court when it was facing total annihilation."
"But that’s almost impossible."
"The Night Court’s foundations are deep. We could go for centuries without facing a crisis of that magnitude."
"And if we ever did, it would mean the enemy is unprecedentedly strong—so strong as to be beyond anyone’s comprehension."
"At that point, you’d be lucky just to save your own hide. Who’d have the power to turn the tide?"
The implication was that the Night Court’s Court Master was a show-off, purely flaunting his own treasures.
Just then, the staff member beside them spoke up, urging them on.
"Kid, pick your reward as soon as you can. The warehouse can’t stay open for long."
"Alright, I’m on it."
Gu Qing responded.
He quickly took a lap around the warehouse and found that the most basic Extraordinary Resources available were just some average-quality Elixir Pills, unremarkable trinkets, and standard-issue equipment.
None of these things looked very valuable.
For a moment,
Gu Qing had no idea what to choose.
Lin Tianyang saw his indecision.
He offered a suggestion:
"If you can’t decide, just grab that bottle of Speed Healing Pills in front of you. That stuff is incredibly potent. Take the injury on your arm from earlier—swallow one Speed Healing Pill, and it’ll heal completely in under ten seconds."
"It’s that amazing?"
"But some people might experience a side effect. After taking it, they instantly pitch a small tent that they can’t get to go down."
’That’s a side effect?’
’That’s obviously the main effect!’
Gu Qing picked up the bottle of Speed Healing Pills in front of him and examined it with curiosity.
Inside the bottle were ten round, blue pills.
The bottle’s label described its effects:
[This Elixir Pill can rapidly repair physical injuries. Even if the body is pierced by a bullet, swallowing a single pill will heal the wound within seconds.]
’The effect of this Speed Healing Pill is ridiculously powerful.’
’With this, in a future life-or-death battle, even if I’m riddled with fatal wounds, I’d just need to swallow one to be instantly resurrected on the spot at full health and full power.’
With that in mind,
Gu Qing decided to follow Lin Tianyang’s advice. He looked at the nearby staff member and said:
"I’ll take this bottle of Speed Healing Pills, thanks."
"Certainly. Just fill out this form, check the confirmation box, and leave a thumbprint."
The staff member took out a form, an ink pad, and a pen, and handed them all to Gu Qing.
Gu Qing took the items and quickly filled out the form, pressed his thumbprint, and completed the process in no time.
...
「At the same time.」
Inside the interrogation room.
A barely conscious Huang Xiaoyue was bound tightly to an iron pillar with special chains, her body covered in gruesome wounds.
The interrogators had tortured her for information, but she remained tight-lipped, refusing to divulge a single scrap of intelligence.
Fearing there might be an Extraordinary Awakened on the interrogation team who could read minds, she had preemptively used her own rat venom to corrode her brain, rendering herself almost mindless.
Out of options, the interrogator pulled out his phone to report to his superior.
"Captain Li, this Ratman is too tight-lipped; we can’t crack her. To prevent mind-reading, she destroyed her own brain with her venom. She’s just a drooling idiot now. We can’t get any useful intel out of her."
"Then drain the Extraordinary Power from her body and throw her in any random cell."
The leader on the other end of the line replied in a detached tone, "When the R&D department needs subjects for human experimentation, send her over to be used as a consumable."
"Understood."
The interrogator replied.
After hanging up, he immediately retrieved a long, scarlet fang. With a SQUELCH, he plunged it forcefully into Huang Xiaoyue’s body and began rapidly draining her Extraordinary Power.
As her Extraordinary Power continued to drain away, Huang Xiaoyue’s Ratman transformation faded, and she reverted to her original form: a cute schoolgirl with twin ponytails.
The only difference was that she was now covered in bloody gashes, her limbs were broken, and her once delicate, cherry-red lips were a festering mess.
The wounds on her body were from the brutal interrogation.
But her broken limbs and festering lips were all Gu Qing’s doing.
"Sister... Sister..."
Now back in human form, Huang Xiaoyue opened her ruined mouth, over and over again uttering a mechanical, numb whisper.
Her mind was completely shattered. All that remained, deeply etched inside, was her sister, the human-faced rat.
