Chapter 126: Chapter 105: Visiting the Xia Family’s Old Ancestor

Tier Eight!

Gu Qing felt a surge of excitement as he stared at the text before him.

After Tier Eight came Tier Nine, and after Tier Nine was High-Level.

In the Night Court, a High-Level individual was, at the very least, a powerhouse on par with a Vice Captain.

’Hmm, time to go on a leveling spree.’

’When Sister Zhiyi’s shop is closed on Sunday, I’ll take a cab to my junior’s place to hang out. I’ll see if I can create an opportunity for us to use Ancient Martial Arts and fight side-by-side.’

’That should trigger her [Martial Saint] tag and make it drop the Physical Strength Attribute I desperately need.’

’And while I’m there, I’ll pay a visit to that ancestor of hers who’s lived for several hundred years.’

’I want to see just what kind of Extraordinary tag is floating over the head of this long-lived powerhouse, someone who can create Extraordinary Awakeneds at will.’

Just as this thought crossed his mind,

the phone on his desk buzzed.

He picked it up and saw a WeChat message from his junior, Xia Shuran.

[Xia Shuran: Are you asleep?]

[Gu Qing: Not yet. I’m about to shower and head to bed.]

[Xia Shuran: When are you free in the next few days? I was hoping we could hang out.]

[Gu Qing: Are you still at home?]

[Xia Shuran: I am. I’ve already taken time off from school. I don’t have to be back until Sunday night.]

[Gu Qing: In that case, I’ll come see you on Sunday morning.]

[Xia Shuran: Really?]

[Xia Shuran: You mean you’re coming to my house?]

[Gu Qing: Yep. I’ll come to your place.]

[Gu Qing: I’ve been saying I’d visit your family’s martial arts hall for ages, but I never have. This Sunday is the perfect time to do it.]

[Xia Shuran: That’s great!]

[Xia Shuran: By the way, what kind of food do you like? I’ll go shopping with my mom early on Sunday morning and we’ll make a huge feast for you.]

[Gu Qing: You don’t even have to ask. I’m sure I’ll love anything your family makes.]

[Xia Shuran: You don’t have to be so polite! My family is very hospitable.]

[Gu Qing: I’m not being polite, I just don’t have any particular favorites. How about this? Just make the food you like. I’d actually be curious to know what your tastes are.]

[Xia Shuran: Okay then. Since you put it that way, I’ll make all my favorite dishes on Sunday!]

[Gu Qing: That’s the spirit. Very nice.]

[Xia Shuran: By the way, what time on Sunday morning are you planning to come over?]

[Gu Qing: Let’s say around eight or nine in the morning.]

[Xia Shuran: Reporting, Officer Gu! Private Ranran, roger that!]

[Gu Qing: Gotta go for now. I’m going to shower and get some sleep. You should head to bed soon, too. Don’t stay up late.]

[Xia Shuran: I’m already in bed about to go to sleep. Good night!]

[Gu Qing: Good night.]

After sending the last message, Gu Qing put down his phone, went to grab a mop, and cleaned the sweat off his floor.

He then grabbed a fresh change of clothes and took a quick, hot shower in the bathroom.

By the time he was done with everything, it was already nearly two in the morning.

Seeing how late it was, Gu Qing skipped his usual routine of scrolling on his phone and went straight to sleep.

...

「The next day.」

「Friday.」

Gu Qing woke up early, and after breakfast and some time on his phone, he headed out to find Liu Zhiyi and farm some Attributes.

Aside from Sundays, when she was closed, Liu Zhiyi opened her shop early and closed late the other six days of the week.

She was usually open from around nine in the morning until midnight.

Incredibly hardworking.

Carrying the breakfast his mom had made, Gu Qing sauntered into the Little Fairy Pet Shop, which had just recently opened for the day.

Inside, Liu Zhiyi was in her usual spot, sitting sideways on a plush rug, using her long, slender fingers to play with a few budgies in front of her.

More accurately, she was training them.

As the one with the [Beast Taming King] tag floating above her head, Liu Zhiyi only had to train the small animals in her shop like this each day to enhance her Beast Taming Ability.

At the same time, her body would generate a steady stream of Extraordinary Power, which she used to increase her Physical Strength and Spiritual Strength.

Such was the power of an Extraordinary Awakened.

Not only was leveling up easy, but their potential was also vastly higher, allowing them to wipe the floor with Extraordinary Contactors in every respect.

"Sister Zhiyi, have you eaten breakfast yet?"

Gu Qing walked over to Liu Zhiyi, holding up the bag in his hand with a smile. "I brought some breakfast my mom made."

"I have," Liu Zhiyi replied, looking up at Gu Qing. She habitually adjusted her gold-rimmed glasses and smiled charmingly. "But that doesn’t mean I can’t have a little more."

Gu Qing placed the breakfast on a table. "Then you should eat now, Sister Zhiyi. It won’t taste as good if it gets cold."

"I’m sure your mother’s breakfast is delicious."

Smiling, Liu Zhiyi rose from the rug. She slipped her bare feet into a pair of cotton slippers and walked slowly toward the table where the breakfast sat.

Gu Qing’s eyes swept over Liu Zhiyi as she stood up.

’Nice. She’s equipped a new item today.’

Sister Zhiyi’s long legs were wrapped in a pair of purple stockings he’d never seen before.

They were paired with a form-fitting purple dress.

Every step she took was utterly captivating.

Stunningly beautiful.

So beautiful that one more look felt like it could make a man explode.

As Gu Qing was unabashedly admiring Liu Zhiyi’s outfit,

the budgies on the rug saw Liu Zhiyi get up and leave. They anxiously hopped after her, squawking:

"Mama, Mama, Mama..."

Listening to the parrots calling out "Mama" again and again,

Gu Qing couldn’t hold it together.

’Their first word is "Mama"? What kind of crazy parrots are these?’

’No, wait!’

’The real question is, what is Sister Zhiyi doing?’

’Why would she teach parrots to call her "Mama"?’

’Don’t tell me she likes being called "Mama"?’

’Diagnosis: She’s almost thirty, so her personal willpower has been hijacked by her hormones. Her maternal instincts are overflowing, and now she wants to be a mom.’

Gu Qing’s mind ran wild with these thoughts.

Meanwhile, Liu Zhiyi had reached the table, sat down, opened the bag, and started taking out the breakfast items one by one.

A slice of whole wheat bread.

Half a cob of corn.

Half a cucumber.

Two hard-boiled eggs.

A few orange slices.

And a bottle of milk.

Liu Zhiyi looked at the food before her, one of her delicate eyebrows arching slightly. "Your mother makes a very complete breakfast. Quality carbs, quality protein, fresh fruits and vegetables, and milk. This is very healthy."

Gu Qing smiled. "My mom is very health-conscious. She’s always watching educational videos about nutrition on Douyin."

"I see."

Liu Zhiyi picked up an egg and began to peel it. "For your mother to be so eager to learn, she must be a very knowledgeable person."

Gu Qing chuckled. "Speaking of which, my mom’s a teacher, just like you, Sister Zhiyi. She teaches Chinese in the high school division of No. 2 Middle School."

"What a coincidence."

Liu Zhiyi parted her soft lips and took a delicate bite of the egg. "I was only a teacher for half a year, though," she said in her cultured voice. "If I’d kept at it, I might have had the chance to meet your mother."

"CORN! CORN! CORN!"

A few of the budgies flew onto the table, opening their beaks to beg for food from Liu Zhiyi.

Liu Zhiyi looked at Gu Qing. "Do you mind if I give them some of the corn?"

Gu Qing replied, "Of course not."

With his permission, Liu Zhiyi picked up the half cob of cooked corn, broke off a few kernels, and tossed them to the budgies.

Then, she said nonchalantly, "I was browsing the Night Talk forums last night and saw a post. It said you captured two Fox Women alive. Is that true?"

Gu Qing replied, "It’s true."

A flicker of understanding passed through Liu Zhiyi’s eyes. "No wonder you specifically asked me about Fox Women yesterday," she said softly. "You already had your eyes on them."

She then added, full of curiosity, "You’re just a newcomer to the Extraordinary World. How did you manage to run into two separate monster-related Extraordinary incidents in just two days?"

Gu Qing didn’t hide anything. "I ran into the Ratman because they were targeting me. As for the two Fox Women, the Magic Mirror told me there were some causing trouble nearby and that I could handle them on my own. So, I went and took care of them myself."

Liu Zhiyi nodded. "It seems that Magic Mirror of yours is truly remarkable. You can use its power to grow much faster and go further down the Extraordinary path than other Contactors."

"I hope so,"

Gu Qing said with a faint smile.

Once Liu Zhiyi had finished her breakfast in her usual unhurried manner, the two of them sat down on the rug. They trained the budgies while making idle conversation, the atmosphere relaxed and leisurely.

Aside from the times when customers entered the shop or when they ordered takeout for lunch, they spent the rest of their time sitting on the rug, training the budgies.

The reason they could stay put for so long was that both of them were gaining immense benefits from the activity.

One of them could enhance her Superpower and gain Extraordinary Power.

The other could furiously farm Attributes from her tag.

Time flies when you’re having fun.

In the blink of an eye, it was five in the afternoon.

[You have trained animals with your friend Liu Zhiyi for over an hour] x6

[Beast Language Ability +1] x6

[Beast Taming Skill +1] x6

[Beast Taming Skill has accumulated 100 points. You can now obtain the Attribute: Essence Blood Enslavement]

[Current points obtained: 17]

Gu Qing glanced at the text prompts, then checked his phone. Seeing that it was already past five o’clock, he said to Liu Zhiyi,

"Sister Zhiyi, it’s almost dinnertime. I’ve got to head home to eat. See you in a bit."

"Okay, see you in a bit."

Liu Zhiyi picked up her phone. "Perfect timing. I’ll order some takeout."

Hearing this, Gu Qing suggested, "Sister Zhiyi, eating takeout all the time isn’t good for you. Why don’t I bring you back a plate from my place? My mom’s cooking is top-notch—delicious and healthy."

"Oh, really?"

Liu Zhiyi didn’t stand on ceremony. She offered a gentle, graceful smile. "Well, since you put it that way, I won’t be polite. Just remember to thank your mother for me."

Gu Qing grinned. "Alright, Sister Zhiyi, I’m heading home to eat then. I’ll eat quickly and bring some back for you."

Liu Zhiyi’s smile was gentle. "No need to rush. Take your time. I’m not hungry yet."

As she spoke, her eyes lingered on Gu Qing’s handsome face. The more she looked, the more she felt this former student of hers was exceptionally pleasing to the eye.
