I Use Illusions to Control the Whole World
Chapter 234: What Kind of Terrifying Organization Have I Joined?
The Divine Healing Potion hadn't completely healed his injuries. More than a decade of imprisonment had left his body with a massive deficit, one that couldn't be replenished by potions in the short term.
It was no exaggeration to say that Lin Canyang was currently the weakest Gold, bar none. But no matter how weak, he was still a Gold.
Chu Shang's Blazing Heaven's Wrath had burned the base to ash. Aside from a few of the stronger Silver Transcendents, no one inside had survived.
Dealing with those Silvers was a breeze. Even if his injuries had been twice as bad, crushing them would have been effortless.
The next day.
The front pages across the entire Chiyan Empire were once again dominated by the Seven Deadly Sins. Only this time, the figure on the page wasn't one of the established sins, but a man wearing a mask engraved with the number three.
The headline read: Provisional Third Seat of the Seven Deadly Sins Publicly Assassinates Chu Shang, President of the Federal Pharmaceutical Company's Chiyan Empire Branch, to Fulfill Organization's Test.
Beneath it was a photograph of a blazing ruin. A red-skinned man wreathed in black mist and wearing a Silver-White Mask marked with a 'three' stood tall within the sea of fire. He held a corpse in each hand, directly confronting an encirclement of Law Enforcement Bureau officers.
The picture was incredibly blurry, clearly taken from a great distance. Yet that very blurriness added an aura of mystery and terror to the Provisional Third Seat, making him look like an asura stepping straight out of the inferno.
The news triggered a massive earthquake across the Chiyan Empire. Even the high-and-mighty nobles of the Imperial Capital never imagined the Seven Deadly Sins could be so audacious. After all, the Royal Family had only recently eradicated all members of the Blood Clan within their borders—a purge that included Envy of the Seven Deadly Sins!Yet, not long after that, the Seven Deadly Sins had killed another Gold powerhouse. This was naked contempt for the Chiyan Empire. It was revenge!
Ordinary citizens reading the news only saw a spectacle, marveling at the sheer arrogance of the Seven Deadly Sins.
But powerful Transcendents, along with the nobles and the Royal Family, noticed the finer details.
The red-skinned man wreathed in black mist in the photograph clearly displayed the effects of the Giant Demon Gold Law. This was another Gold powerhouse!
Most terrifying of all, this Gold powerhouse was merely the Provisional Third Seat of the Seven Deadly Sins!
According to reports from the Law Enforcement Bureau at the scene, this Third Seat had been incredibly arrogant. Not only did he commit murder right in front of the officers, but he was actually thrilled, declaring that he had passed the organization's test to become the Provisional Third Seat!
Although the Giant Demon path sat at the very bottom of the Gold tier's pecking order, it was still a genuine Gold powerhouse. Since when was a Gold powerhouse not even qualified to be a full member of an organization? Provisional? And only the fucking Third Seat at that?
The Chiyan Imperial Family was furious. They vowed to eradicate the Seven Deadly Sins at all costs and mobilized several Gold powerhouses overnight to hunt down this Third Seat.
Meanwhile, Lin Canyang had already changed into a decent set of new clothes and cut his hair short. Hiding in the back kitchen of a restaurant, he was currently gorging himself.
After devouring all of the chef's prepped ingredients, he even started digging through the trash can, greedily gulping down the leftover scraps. To him, this garbage was an absolute delicacy.
It wasn't that he didn't want to eat openly in the dining room, but he was actively being hunted by the Law Enforcement Bureau. He had barely managed to escape yesterday before their main force arrived, so naturally, he didn't dare show his face in public.
Once he finished eating, Lin Canyang activated his Giant Demon ability. His muscles bulged and swelled, transforming him into a massive, burly brute before he slipped out of the kitchen.
Out on the street, he casually pickpocketed a lucky passerby, then bought a newspaper at a nearby stand.
"Boss, give me a copy of all the recent newspapers."
After paying, Lin Canyang found a deserted street, squatted down in a corner, and started flipping through today's edition.
When he saw the photograph taking up a quarter of the front page, he grinned, his pale teeth glinting coldly.
"The Leader said the bigger the commotion, the better. This should be enough to satisfy him, right?"
He then began leafing through the older newspapers. He hadn't forgotten what Pride told him during their first meeting—that if he wanted to know what kind of organization the Seven Deadly Sins was, all he had to do was buy a newspaper.
He sifted through the stack until the words 'Seven Deadly Sins' finally caught his eye. Focusing on the text, his pupils instantly contracted!
A long moment later, Lin Canyang sucked in a sharp breath.
Now he finally understood exactly what kind of organization the Seven Deadly Sins was. It was a terrifying syndicate made entirely of Gold powerhouses! They had publicly assassinated imperial nobles, besieged two Gold powerhouses—leaving one dead and one gravely injured—and slaughtered nearly a hundred Law Enforcement Bureau elites!
No wonder they looked down on his Giant Demon path. In an organization built entirely of Gold powerhouses, a Giant Demon like him truly didn't measure up.
Sikong Zhen and Shentu Lie, the two Gold powerhouses who had been killed and wounded respectively, were names that resonated like thunder even to him. Long before his imprisonment, those two had already made their mark in the Empire as veteran Gold powerhouses.
Sikong Zhen, in particular, had possessed masterful lightning abilities. He was an elite among Gold powerhouses, deeply valued by the Royal Family.
Even at his peak, Lin Canyang would have had to steer clear of a figure like that. Yet, faced with the Seven Deadly Sins, Sikong Zhen had been forced to flee for his life.
Looking back at the "huge commotion" he'd just caused, Lin Canyang suddenly felt entirely underwhelmed by his own performance. Even with a sneak attack, he hadn't been able to kill Chu Shang. In the end, the Leader had to step in and execute Chu Shang with a single sword strike, then use a bottle of Divine Healing Potion just to save him. By comparison, he felt incredibly lucky to have been granted the Provisional Third Seat at all.
At the same time, however, a burning ambition slowly swelled in his heart. Federal Pharmaceuticals wielded massive influence, with branches spread across all the major empires.
He had permanently placed himself in direct opposition to them. It was no exaggeration to say that in this entire world, only an organization like the Seven Deadly Sins was capable of sheltering him.
While he didn't know the true depths of their strength, the mere fact that they could stir up such massive storms in the Chiyan Empire and remain completely unscathed was proof enough of their terrifying power.
The newspaper's wild speculation—that Envy was a member of the Blood Clan and that the Seven Deadly Sins were likely backed by the Blood Moon Empire—only further solidified his conviction.
Perhaps he could take things a step further and become a full member, rather than a provisional stand-in who could be tossed aside at any moment. Only then would he truly be able to rest easy.
But his most urgent priority was healing his injuries and recovering from years of physical depletion, so he could return to his peak as soon as possible.
...
...
In Prison 749, Specter, the leader of the Revolutionary Army, suddenly opened their eyes. A flash of surprise passed through their deep gaze.
"I didn't expect Pride to act so quickly, yet the one taking action was only a provisional member of the Seven Deadly Sins. To think a mere provisional member had the strength to assassinate a branch president on Federal Pharmaceuticals' own turf... Since when did the Giant Demon path become so powerful?
"Perhaps there were other members secretly assisting in the shadows, but... just how many Gold powerhouses are the Seven Deadly Sins hiding? I originally thought having seven Golds was an overestimation, but to think even the Third Seat is a Gold—even if it's merely the weakest Giant Demon path.
"Forget it. No matter how strong the Seven Deadly Sins are, we aren't enemies right now. Their strength is perfect for keeping the Chiyan Empire in check. My main focus still needs to be on Supreme Heaven."
