I Use Illusions to Control the Whole World
Chapter 114: Lord Divine Envoy
"Heh," Su Mu chuckled softly. "So cowardly? Since you don't dare come over, I'll just go to sleep."
Ignoring the thousands of glaring Snakefolk around him, he simply sat on the cold rock floor, rested his elbows on his thighs, propped his chin in his hands, and then... fell asleep.
Once he was asleep, the silent Snakefolk finally overcame their fear and approached him step by step. They moved at a crawl, hesitating with every stride, but never stopped advancing.
The scene was terrifying. If anyone else had witnessed it, they might have fainted on the spot.
Within the boundless Black Fog, an elegant gentleman in a tailored suit slept peacefully. Surrounding him was a dense horde of Snakefolk with dark yellow vertical pupils and black scales covering their limbs. They slowly tightened their encirclement, drawing closer and closer...
Just as the encirclement shrank to less than five meters...
"Haa..." Su Mu stretched and yawned, waking from his dream. He had slept for a full minute. Factoring in the time it took to drift off and wake up, his actual time asleep was less than a minute.
However, his mental energy recovery had nothing to do with sleep duration. As long as he entered a dream and woke up, his mental energy would fully replenish and increase by one percent.
Su Mu's sudden movement startled the surrounding Snakefolk, causing them to instinctively step back. They stared fixedly at him, not daring to make a rash move.
"Hahaha... Interesting." Su Mu smiled, then slowly stood up. That simple action made the Snakefolk retreat several more steps. However, he harbored no illusions of scaring the Snakefolk away. It wasn't realistic. The Snakefolk clearly lacked human intelligence and wouldn't fall for an empty-gun bluff.
Seizing the Snakefolk's hesitation, Su Mu attempted to save himself.
He channeled his vast mental energy into Bubai, helping heal his injuries to see if he could wake him.
Perhaps heaven always left a way out. As the mental energy flooded in, Bubai actually showed signs of waking. To Bubai, mental energy was the finest medicine.
The Snakefolk, however, would not grant him much time. They had waited too long and lost all patience. One Snakefolk tentatively approached Su Mu.
Thrum!
The Silver Vertical Pupil at the center of Su Mu's brow gleamed with silver light.
Fear instantly washed over the Snakefolk's face, and it stumbled backward repeatedly.
The silver light quickly dimmed. Su Mu had no strength left to fire another beam; he had merely used his mental energy to slightly activate the silver eye. To put it bluntly, he was just scaring the snakes.
The bluff proved highly effective, deterring the Snakefolk for another minute.
Although the Snakefolk's growth rate was incredibly fast, it manifested physically rather than intellectually.
A minute later, the Snakefolk lost their patience again, and Su Mu's Silver Vertical Pupil lit up once more. The two sides engaged in a tense back-and-forth, constantly pushing and pulling like experienced lovers testing each other.
Gradually, the deterrence of the Silver Vertical Pupil waned. The Snakefolk seemed to realize that Su Mu was bluffing. Finally snapping completely, they unleashed a chorus of threatening hisses.
Just as the Snakefolk prepared to swarm him, Su Mu gripped Bubai's hand. Yes, Bubai had awakened.
Although extremely weak, he had finally woken up.
"Hiss..." The Snakefolk sensed that something was wrong. Tens of thousands of them surged forward, only to pounce on empty air. Su Mu vanished, leaving only a shadow on the ground.
"Hiss, hiss..." Falling into a frenzy, the Snakefolk relentlessly attacked the shadow on the ground. They pulverized the rock beneath it, but their efforts were completely useless.
Within the Shadow Space, Su Mu went right back to sleep. He had nearly drained his mental energy trying to wake Bubai, but that didn't matter. Mental energy cost him nothing; he could burn it freely.
From within his dream, he observed the Snakefolk outside. They were rather single-minded, stubbornly surrounding the shadow and refusing to leave.
He pondered his next move. First, the Shadow Dimension lacked any supplies, so he couldn't hold out for long. Going without food was manageable, but the lack of water was critical. Given his physical condition, three days without water would basically kill him.
Second, three days would allow him to recover a bit of stamina. If he overexerted himself, he might be able to fire one more silver beam. The problem was, would he even have the strength to run away afterward? That was a massive question mark.
After weighing his options, he realized he had only two paths. The first was to wait and see if the Snakefolk left first, or if he died of thirst first. The second was to recover his stamina and risk everything in a desperate fight, which might give him a slim chance of survival.
Ultimately, Su Mu decided to wait for three days. It would be best if the Snakefolk left. If they didn't, he would risk it all.
A day passed, and a portion of the Snakefolk retreated. Most, however, remained in place, occasionally attacking his shadow.
Two days later, another portion of the Snakefolk retreated. Roughly half of them left this time, but over a thousand remained on guard.
On the third day, not a single one of the thousand-plus Snakefolk left. They were still waiting.
Meanwhile, Su Mu had comfortably passed three years. By extending the time within his dream, he never found himself bored. He spent his days eating, drinking, and enjoying life. When he had nothing else to do, he would casually destroy a world or play Heavenly Emperor. He even revisited "to the bitter end!", diving in to wreak havoc for a while.
On this day, he woke from his dream. Feeling his slightly recovered body, he estimated he could barely manage one more blast, so he prepared to head out and meet the thousand-plus Snakefolk.
Swish!
Su Mu stepped out of the shadow, instantly catching the attention of the remaining Snakefolk. In just three days, they had grown even larger. Not only did their heights now exceed two meters, but bulging muscles could faintly be seen beneath their black scales.
"Hiss..." This time, they didn't hesitate at all, lunging directly at Su Mu.
Su Mu didn't hold back either. A dazzling pillar of silver light shot forth like a laser weapon, instantly piercing through all the Snakefolk in a straight line!
The terrifying power brought a look of fear to the Snakefolk's faces. Seizing the moment of their panic, Su Mu prepared to break out, but in the next second, a wave of dizzying, extreme weakness washed over him. His pale hand barely gripped the Snakewood Cane, preventing him from collapsing to the ground.
"Ah, the human body is still too weak."
"Over here! The holy light is over here!" an ecstatic voice suddenly rang out from the distant Black Fog.
"I finally found the Divine Envoy! Praise the Primal Angel!" another voice, choked with sobs, rang out from the Black Fog, drawing closer and closer.
"Get lost! You spawn of an evil god, don't you dare harm Lord Divine Envoy!"
Several sharp whistling sounds cut through the air. Su Mu weakly lifted his head, only to see several white-robed figures suddenly appear from the Black Fog, their expressions excited and fanatical.
'White-robed figures? Divine Envoy?' The scene he had seen earlier at the Angel Statue flashed through his mind. Back then, a group of black-robed and white-robed figures had been worshipping the Statue at the same time...
His thoughts abruptly cut off. The continuous overexertion of his body, combined with going three days without a drop of water, finally dragged him into unconsciousness.
