I Summon Female Knights
Chapter 41: Time’s Up
A full week bled into the dark, seamless void of the sanctuary.
For seven uninterrupted days, Raphael remained submerged in the brutal meat-grinder of his training. The days of hesitation, childish complaints, and soft civilian weakness had vanished entirely, replaced by an unyielding, cold discipline. He pushed his vessel through the arduous trial of Tier 3: Veil-Infused Flow & Kinetic Transition, learning to thread the micro-thin current of the Sovereign’s Veil directly through the steel of his swings, converting heavy physical inertia into rapid, fluid killing arcs.
The constant, high-intensity integration of his core had altered his physical vessel once again. Standing now at a towering six-foot-seven, his frame possessed a terrifying, broad-shouldered presence- sculpted with dense, explosive muscle that retained an effortless, predatory athleticism.
His dark hair had grown slightly bushier, falling in sharp, messy bangs that framed his face and partially shaded his piercing silver eyes, casting a constant, shadowy veil over his carved features.
During this week of relentless training, the System had rewarded his progress, unlocking various new functions, most notably the System Shop.
By completing daily protocols, mastering weapon transitions, and expanding his core authority, Raphael had earned a lump sum of Sovereign Credits. He didn’t hoard them. He converted every last credit into practical lethality.
Through the Shop, he purchased two D-Tier weapons specifically forged to resonate with his core: the Obsidian-Spine Greatsword, a five-foot slab of dark, runic iron designed for sweeping cleaves, and the Eclipse Battle Axe, a heavy, single-headed executioner’s axe featuring a hooked beard and a vicious rear armor-piercing spike.
To complete his combat gear, he acquired a set of Ashen-Vanguard E-Tier Cuirass and Gauntlets, lightweight, matte-black composite armor that wrapped around his torso and forearms without hindering his agility.
The purchases wiped his balance clean down to exactly 0 Sovereign Credits, but as he strapped the heavy leather holsters across his broad back and shoulders, he felt zero regret.
He was finally armed like a ruler.
Raphael stood near the window of his Jiston apartment, peering through a small slit in the heavy blinds. Outside, the neon lights of the lower district flickered in the overcast drizzle.
He knew he couldn’t afford to sit idle for the remainder of the month. The Bureau had recovered from their initial shock. In the end, they were humans, driven by fear, institutional pride, and a desperate need to control what they couldn’t understand.
And humans never gave up, especially when it came to hunting down an unclassified "Unknown" asset that had humiliated an A-Tier operative and walked out of a high-security facility.
Over the past forty-eight hours, the subtle shift in Jiston was unmistakable. Low-profile Bureau spotters and plainclothes intelligence operatives had begun quietly canvassing the outer sectors, monitoring local transit hubs and cross-referencing civilian registries. They were closing the net, inch by inch.
"They are persistent ants," Vanessa noted softly, floating out of the dark shadows near the doorway. Her dark robes fell silently around her boots, her cold violet eyes observing him with absolute, unwavering devotion.
Her internal mana capacity had grown immensely over the week, echoing the rapid rise of her master’s authority. "They believe that by gathering in greater numbers, they can cage a storm."
Raphael pulled his oversized black hoodie over his head, adjusting the deep hood until his messy dark hair and luminous silver eyes were entirely buried in shadow. The dark grey fabric stretched taut over his broad, six-foot-seven frame, but his long, fluid stride concealed the sheer density of the power coiled beneath his skin.
"They’re wasting their time," Raphael said, his voice dropping into a deep, reverberating baritone that carried a chilling, quiet authority. "Let them search empty streets. We have a gate to clear."
He checked his back straps. The broad hilt of the Obsidian-Spine Greatsword rested over his right shoulder, while the steel-capped haft of the Eclipse Battle Axe hung securely along his left hip, ready to be drawn in a fraction of a second. Underneath the heavy hoodie, the matte-black plates of the Ashen-Vanguard armor settled snugly against his chest and shoulders.
He turned his gaze toward the dark corner of the room, where the Umbral Corvid materialized out of thin air, alighting quietly on his shoulder. Through their shared mental link, the shadow-crow transmitted a real-time spatial feed of Sector 9 in Hiwo- seventy-one kilometers northeast.
The subterranean transit depot beneath the abandoned train shed was bleeding heavily. The unregistered D-Tier rift, The Shadow-Veined Depths, was pulsing with volatile, corrupted mana, teetering right on the edge of dimensional collapse. The void entities within were growing restless, waiting for a portal to burst open and flood the physical world.
"The tear is ready," Raphael murmured, a dark, cold smile touching his lips beneath the shadow of his hood.
"And so are we, Sovereign," Vanessa replied, bowing her head slightly. "The void will learn what it means to bow to the Anchor."
Raphael didn’t bother using the creaky apartment stairs or stepping past the landlord’s office. He walked up to the open window frame, looking down at the quiet, rain-slicked alleyway three floors below. He adjusted his duffel bag, drew his hood lower over his eyes, and stepped cleanly out into the night air.
The micro-thin layer of the Sovereign’s Veil flared beneath his boots as he hit the wet asphalt below with a silent, shock-absorbed landing. He didn’t leave a single crack in the pavement.
Without glancing back at the Jiston apartment that had served as his temporary shelter, the towering, silver-eyed ruler melted into the dark rain, heading northeast toward the hidden depths of Hiwo.
...
Seventy-one kilometers was a formidable distance for any ordinary human, but to Raphael, it was an ideal testing ground.
Taking a public cab or hail-ride was out of the question. A six-foot-seven passenger wearing a dark, oversized tactical hoodie with two massive weapon hilts bulging beneath the fabric would immediately draw eyes, trigger route logs, and leave a clear paper trail for Captain Vale’s canvassing spotters. More importantly, Raphael viewed the journey as an unmissable opportunity to push his newly cleansed physiology and test his long-range stamina under continuous mana reinforcement.
