Chapter 697: Chapter 426: Looks Unremarkable and Not Very Capable

"You didn’t buy these?"

"Mm, our neighbor Lin Li gave them to me."

"Oh, so Lin Li gave them to you! No wonder these strawberries are so delicious."

In Zhou Tongtong’s eyes, anything from Lin Li was bound to be delicious.

"Alright, put the strawberries aside for now. You can eat them after breakfast," Xia Qing said, calling her daughter to the table.

The mother and daughter then chatted idly while they ate breakfast.

...

Bright sunlight shone down on the residential complex. It wasn’t early anymore; people who had gone out for morning jogs not long after dawn were now returning one after another.

Upon closer inspection, one could see faint Spiritual Energy Waves emanating from some of the early morning joggers. These people were all Awakened who had awakened their Spirituality.

They were still a long way from breaking through to the First Rank Initial Stage and officially becoming Cultivators.

In the complex’s greenbelt, a little black cat and a little white cat sat on the grass, watching the entrance of Building Three from a distance.

"Meow... Is Zhou Tongtong coming out?" the Little Black Cat asked its companion.

"Meow... Not yet! Just wait a little longer," the Little White Cat replied.

"Meow... Why is she coming out a little later than usual today? Isn’t she afraid of being late?" the Little Black Cat asked.

"Meow... You’re asking me? How should I know!" The Little White Cat gave its companion a speechless look and rolled its eyes.

The meowing of the two little stray cats attracted the attention of passersby. When they noticed several pairs of eyes on them, they immediately shut their mouths and stopped talking.

After waiting a little longer, a faint, almost imperceptible glimmer of pale gold Spiritual Light flashed in the depths of the Little White Cat’s large, round eyes. "Meow... Little Black, Zhou Tongtong’s coming out."

The Little Black Cat had its head down, happily teasing an ant that was passing by with its little paw. When it suddenly heard its companion’s warning, it quickly lifted its head and looked toward the entrance of Building Three.

About four or five seconds after the Little White Cat announced she was coming, Zhou Tongtong did indeed walk out of the building.

Dressed in her school uniform, Zhou Tongtong wore her hair in a ponytail today. As she walked, it swung back and forth behind her head, looking very cute.

With a strawberry in her left hand and another in her right, Zhou Tongtong’s little face was full of a brilliant smile.

"Tongtong, why are you just holding the strawberries? We’re about to leave, so hurry up and eat them," Xia Qing said to her daughter, who was holding two strawberries but not eating them.

"Mom, these two strawberries are for Little White and Little Black..." Zhou Tongtong explained why she hadn’t eaten the strawberries in her hands.

Understanding why her daughter hadn’t eaten the strawberries, Xia Qing urged, "It’s getting late. If you’re going to give those two little stray cats the strawberries, then hurry up."

"Okay." Zhou Tongtong didn’t want to be late. She felt a pull and looked toward the distant greenbelt. Just as she expected, the two little stray cats were there to see her off again today.

TAP, TAP, TAP...

Zhou Tongtong was wearing little leather shoes today, which made a crisp tapping sound as she ran.

Seeing Zhou Tongtong trot all the way to the greenbelt, the two little stray cats sitting on the grass cried out happily.

"Meow... Good morning, Zhou Tongtong!"

"Hi, Little White, Little Black!"

The two little stray cats’ gazes were quickly drawn to the big strawberries in Zhou Tongtong’s hands.

"Here... These are the strawberries Lin Li gave me. They’re super yummy. You guys try them." Zhou Tongtong crouched down and placed the two big strawberries on the grass in front of the Little Black Cat and the Little White Cat.

"Meow... Thank you." The two little stray cats thanked Zhou Tongtong and then lowered their heads to eat the strawberries.

"Hee hee." Zhou Tongtong giggled as she watched the two little stray cats, then reached out her small, fair hand to stroke their little heads.

A pale gold Spiritual Light appeared in Zhou Tongtong’s bright, dark eyes. The Spiritual Energy flowing from her fingertips was several times more abundant than usual, and it quickly seeped into the bodies of the two little stray cats before her.

"Meow..." The Little White Cat and Little Black Cat, who were eating strawberries, felt their limbs go soft with comfort. They flopped directly onto the ground and let out a lazy cry.

"Huh? What’s wrong with you two?" The Spiritual Light in her eyes faded, and Zhou Tongtong looked at the two little stray cats lying on the ground, asking in confusion.

"Meow... We suddenly feel so comfortable, we don’t want to move," the Little White Cat and the Little Black Cat said in unison.

Zhou Tongtong didn’t think much of it. She petted the stray cats’ backs with her little hands and then asked them a question.

"Yesterday, my good friend gave me a present, and I want to give her one in return. Do you have any good ideas?"

After receiving the pebble from Wang Duoduo, Zhou Tongtong had been pondering what to give her in return.

"Meow...?" The two little stray cats, who were feeling utterly blissful from the Spiritual Energy seeping into their bodies, began to seriously ponder her question.

"Tongtong, come on, we have to go," Xia Qing called to her daughter, who was playing with the two little stray cats in the distance, as she wheeled her electric scooter out from the bike shed.

"I have to go to school now. You guys take your time thinking. You can tell me your ideas when I get back this afternoon," Zhou Tongtong said to the two little stray cats, who were deep in thought. Then she got up and ran to her mom.

Xia Qing lifted her daughter and placed her on the back seat of the electric scooter. Just then, a familiar figure approached them from a distance.

Zhou Tongtong pointed ahead and said to her mother, "Mom, it’s Lin Li."

Xia Qing turned around and looked in the direction her daughter was pointing.

Lin Li was carrying a bag of breakfast. He saw the mother and daughter from next door standing on the path ahead, looking at him.

He walked up to them and greeted them with a smile. "Xia Qing, good morning. Are you taking Zhou Tongtong to school?"

Xia Qing smiled and nodded. Zhou Tongtong looked in surprise at the bag of breakfast in Lin Li’s hand. "Lin Li, you’re eating this much breakfast all by yourself? That’s amazing!"

"I was feeling extra hungry this morning, so I bought a little more," Lin Li explained with a smile.

Because it was almost time for school, Xia Qing had to hurry to get her daughter there. So, the mother and daughter only chatted briefly with Lin Li before leaving the complex.

Lin Li withdrew his gaze from the departing mother and daughter, then turned his head to look at the nearby greenbelt.

’Strange. I just perceived two faint Spiritual Energy Waves over there. How did they suddenly disappear?’

Because the two Spiritual Energy Waves he had inadvertently perceived were extremely faint, Lin Li didn’t pay them much mind. He looked away and turned to walk toward the entrance of Building Three.

Behind a bush in the greenbelt, two little figures were whispering to each other.

"Meow... Has that person left yet?" the Little Black Cat asked its companion.

"Meow... He’s gone," the Little White Cat said. It then poked its head through the bush to look at the distant, receding figure.

"Meow... Actually, I don’t think we need to be so wary of that person. He doesn’t look like a bad guy," the Little Black Cat said, also poking its head out next to its companion and following its gaze.

The Little White Cat remembered that the strawberries they had just eaten were a gift from Lin Li to Zhou Tongtong. Hearing what its companion said, it thought for a moment. "Meow... Let’s just wait and see. It’s never wrong to be careful."

The Little Black Cat nodded, and the two little stray cats headed toward a large, leafy tree nearby where they often played.

This morning, just before dawn, they had caught a fat rat in the complex.

Since they weren’t hungry at the time, they had hung their catch on the tree.

Several hours had passed, and now they were hungry. The two little ones prepared to take down the prey hanging from the tree to fill their stomachs.
