Chapter 696: Chapter 426: Looks Unassuming and Not Very Capable
At dawn, the brilliant golden sun rose in the east. Its gentle rays filtered through the dense leaves, casting dappled spots of gold upon the clean road surface.
Before the sky had even brightened, the sanitation workers had already left their homes for work.
By this time, they had already finished their morning task of sweeping the roads.
Next, they would buy some breakfast from a roadside vendor and find a spot to rest for a while.
A car approached from a distance and pulled over on the side of the road, opposite the Ping’an Garden District.
"YAWN~"
Zhu Daqi opened the car door, got out, and yawned while stretching. He then headed toward a breakfast cart not far down the road.
It was Tuesday, a workday, so plenty of people were out and about, heading to their jobs.
Most people who worked in the city rarely made breakfast at home anymore.
The common routine was to get up, brush their teeth, wash their face, and then grab something from a roadside stall on their way to work, eating as they rushed to catch the bus or subway.
’Wow, it’s crowded today!’ Zhu Daqi muttered to himself as he arrived at the breakfast stall, noticing the long line of people in front of him.
After waiting in line for a bit, it was finally Zhu Daqi’s turn. "Ma’am, I’ll have two meat buns, a cup of soy milk, and one tea egg," he said, ordering his usual breakfast.
The woman running the stall skillfully packed his order into a plastic bag and handed it to him.
He scanned the payment QR code on the cart with his phone, and once the payment went through, Zhu Daqi eagerly started eating his meat bun.
Just then, he happened to glance at a passerby next to him.
When he got a clear look at the person’s face, Zhu Daqi’s heart leaped in shock. He was so startled he almost dropped his breakfast.
"Ma’am, I’d like ten meat buns, five fried dough sticks, three tea eggs, and two cups of soy milk," said Lin Li, who was wearing a white T-shirt and beige casual pants, to the woman at the stall.
’Wait, he was in line behind me this whole time, and I didn’t even notice?!!’
This was the first time Zhu Daqi had been this close to his target. He stared at the young man, who looked to be in his early twenties, and thought he seemed completely unremarkable—just an ordinary person, nothing like an Exotic Beast Hunter at Tier One Peak.
"Ma’am, the payment went through," Lin Li said, taking the bag of breakfast from the woman. He showed her the successful payment screen on his phone.
"Alright," the woman nodded. Lin Li put his phone back in his pocket and turned to look beside him.
He had noticed a moment ago that the man buying breakfast next to him was staring at him.
"Er..."
When Zhu Daqi saw Lin Li look his way, he instantly realized his blatant staring had drawn the man’s attention.
He quickly averted his gaze and, feigning the nonchalance of a simple passerby buying breakfast, walked away.
’What a weirdo,’ Lin Li thought, watching Zhu Daqi’s retreating back. He then carried his breakfast across the street and headed back to his residential complex.
After walking twenty or thirty meters away, Zhu Daqi cautiously turned to look back.
When he saw Lin Li walk into the district carrying his breakfast, he raised a hand to scratch his head and muttered to himself.
’This young man... he looks so incredibly ordinary. No matter how I look at him, I can’t believe he’s capable of causing Big Brother’s death...’
A brilliant ray of sunlight squeezed through a gap in the curtains, casting a golden stripe across the hardwood floor.
On the bed, Zhou Tongtong’s long eyelashes fluttered like a butterfly’s wings in her sleep before she slowly opened her eyes.
Still groggy from sleep, she looked a little dazed. She raised a small hand to rub her eyes, staring blankly at the ceiling.
’Did I dream about Little White and Little Black again last night?’
Zhou Tongtong tried to recall her dream from the night before, but it had already been a while, so she mumbled with uncertainty.
CLICK.
The bedroom door was pushed open. Xia Qing, her glossy black hair tied up high and an apron around her waist, called out to her daughter, who was still lost in thoughts of her dream.
"Tongtong, I just have one more dish to stir-fry and breakfast will be ready. Hurry up and get ready."
"Okay," Zhou Tongtong responded softly. Interrupted by her mother, she stopped trying to remember her dream about Little White Cat and Little Black Cat.
As Xia Qing turned and went back to the kitchen to finish cooking, Zhou Tongtong threw off her covers, stood up on the bed, and took off her pajamas, which had a little bear print on them.
Then, she climbed down from the bed, walked over to her wardrobe, and took out her school uniform to put on.
Xia Qing walked out of the kitchen carrying a plate of stir-fried greens. Seeing that her daughter had already brushed her teeth and washed her face, she asked,
"Tongtong, did you pack all your textbooks? Don’t forget anything."
"Mom, I already put all my textbooks in my school bag, don’t worry!" Zhou Tongtong said. As she spoke, she raised her left hand to show her mother a strawberry she had taken from the fruit bowl in the living room. "Mom," she asked curiously,
"when did you buy these strawberries? They’re delicious."
Xia Qing placed the plate of greens on the dining table and explained, "I didn’t buy those strawberries."
