Chapter 670: Chapter 415: A Frustrating Complication

CLICK.

The beautiful Qin Muqing walked to a corner of the bedroom and opened her wardrobe. She reached in, pushed aside several neatly folded garments, and pulled out a small brocade pouch from the very back.

She untied the pouch and poured out its contents.

A round, pigeon-egg-sized jade bead lay in Qin Muqing’s pale palm.

Qin Muqing looked at the Disguise Treasure Bead, curled her fingers around it, and focused her thoughts.

A faint golden Spiritual Light flashed across the surface of the Disguise Treasure Bead, and Qin Muqing’s appearance immediately changed.

She walked over to her vanity and looked at her reflection in the mirror. Seeing that she once again looked plain and unremarkable, Qin Muqing nodded slightly. Her red lips parted as she muttered to herself.

’Ever since I settled down here with Mr. Lin, I’ve unconsciously let my guard down.’

’I can’t make a mistake like that again. If I get careless and forget when the Disguise Treasure Bead is about to expire, my cover will be blown. Mr. Lin would probably kick me out.’

’After running away from home, I ran into nothing but bad luck. I’ve finally found such a safe place to stay. I can’t afford to mess this up.’

After chiding herself, the now plain-looking Qin Muqing raised a hand and patted her cheeks.

She then placed the Disguise Treasure Bead back into the small brocade pouch and carefully hid it deep inside the wardrobe. After that, she left the bedroom, picked up the bucket by the door, and went downstairs to prepare dinner for Lin Li.

...

On Blue Star, within an Urban Village in Rongcheng slated for demolition, a Canglan Society member named Li Ying stood under a lush, leafy tree, his sharp gaze fixed on a small bungalow not far from him.

He was secretly monitoring the movements of three people to achieve his own objective.

Because of Wang Hao’s arrival, Li Ying was worried about being discovered, so he could no longer monitor them from up close. Moreover, the events of the afternoon had left him completely baffled.

’What the hell is Wang Hao playing at? Why did he suddenly run off to the wilderness and get himself seriously injured?’

Li Ying, who was conducting surveillance from the shadows, couldn’t understand Wang Hao’s sudden departure for the wilderness. When he saw Wang Hao drive away, he had quietly followed him.

When he saw the car leave the city and enter the suburbs, he guessed Wang Hao might be heading into the wilderness. His suspicion was confirmed when the man parked on the roadside and strode into the untamed land.

Li Ying was well aware of the dangers of the wilderness, so he couldn’t follow any further.

He then drove back to continue his surveillance on Chen Xiaoyan and Zhu Daqi. To his complete surprise, Chen Xiaoyan and Zhu Daqi later drove off as well, heading for the same spot where Wang Hao had parked.

The two of them entered the wilderness, and a short while later, they returned carrying Wang Hao, who was wrapped in bandages. One look at him was enough to tell he had been severely injured.

’Why’d you have to go running off for no reason? Look at you now! Getting yourself seriously hurt...’ Li Ying muttered in frustration.

He had originally thought that after Wang Hao’s arrival, a conflict would soon break out with the mission’s target, a man named Lin Li.

Then he could witness it firsthand and complete the mission his superiors had given him. But now, with this new complication, things would be delayed even longer.

Just as a frustrated Li Ying was thinking of finding a place to grab a few drinks, Wang Hao woke up inside the small bungalow. His body was covered in wounds, and his chest, the most severely injured part, was wrapped in layers of white gauze.

"Hiss..."

As Wang Hao came to, his mind was groggy. He subconsciously tried to sit up, but the movement pulled at his wounds, making him break out in a cold sweat and suck in a sharp breath of pain.

The pain jolted his nerves, instantly clearing his muddled mind. Scene after scene of what happened before he passed out flashed through his head.

The roar of that terrifying Mutant Beast seemed to still be echoing in his ears.

Wang Hao recalled the events before he lost consciousness and figured he was probably at Chen Xiaoyan’s place. He opened his mouth and called out.

"Is anyone there?!"

The moment he spoke, the sound of hurried footsteps came from outside the door.

With a CLICK, the door opened, and a man and a woman rushed in.

"Wang Hao, you’re awake?" Chen Xiaoyan exclaimed in delight as she rushed to the bedside, looking at his pale, listless face.

"Water... get me some water," Wang Hao said, his chapped lips twitching.

"Wang, just a second, I’ll go get you a glass of water right now," Zhu Daqi said. He immediately turned and ran out of the room. A moment later, he rushed back in with a glass of cool water.

Chen Xiaoyan stepped forward to help Wang Hao sit up and drink, but just as she reached out, he stopped her.

"Don’t. I’m in agony right now. Don’t move me."

Chen Xiaoyan thought for a moment, then turned to Zhu Daqi and said, "Go get a straw."

"Okay, Yan." Zhu Daqi nodded, handed the glass to Chen Xiaoyan, and ran out of the room again. He returned just as quickly, holding a straw.

Taking the straw from Zhu Daqi, Chen Xiaoyan put it in the glass and helped Wang Hao drink.

SLURP...

Running off into the wilderness under the scorching sun, only to end up like this... it was an outcome none of the three had expected.
