Chapter 669: Chapter 414: The Painful Price and Almost Being Exposed
"Before we go, we need to stop by a pharmacy to buy some Healing Medicine." Chen Xiaoyan knew there was no time to waste, so she nodded and told Zhu Daqi to drive to a pharmacy first to pick up the necessary supplies.
"Um... Yan." Zhu Daqi stammered. Seeing him like this, Chen Xiaoyan said, "Spit it out. Don’t dawdle."
"Yan, Wang is in the wilderness right now. Isn’t it too dangerous for us to go look for him? What if we don’t find him and get eaten by Mutant Beasts instead?"
Zhu Daqi voiced his concerns. He was just an ordinary person, after all, so it was perfectly normal for him to be scared.
As for Zhu Daqi’s worries, Chen Xiaoyan had felt a similar flicker of concern when she was on the phone earlier. However, her worries vanished after she saw the location ping Wang Hao had sent.
"It’s fine. Wang Hao’s current location is only a few dozen meters from the safe zone. We’ll be able to find him in no time once we get there."
"Phew..." Hearing Chen Xiaoyan say that Wang Hao’s location was only a few dozen meters from the safe zone, Zhu Daqi immediately breathed a sigh of relief.
"Let’s go! No more delays," Chen Xiaoyan urged. "If we take too long, I’m afraid Wang Hao’s life will be in danger."
Although she hadn’t heard Wang Hao describe his physical condition in detail during the call, she could tell from his weak tone that his situation was dire.
RUMBLE...
Zhu Daqi started the car and sped off in the direction of the wilderness. Of course, they had to make a stop at the pharmacy on the way to their destination.
...
CHIRP CHIRP...
A flock of well-fed sparrows perched on a branch, looking down at the blood-soaked human lying on the grass beneath the large tree.
Just then, a car stopped on the road in the distant safe zone. The doors opened, and a man and a woman got out. One of them was carrying a first-aid kit.
After getting out of the car, Chen Xiaoyan glanced at the car she had lent to Wang Hao.
Her own car was parked on the side of the road, telling her this was where Wang Hao had gotten out and headed into the wilderness.
She unlocked her phone screen and looked at the location information. Then, she raised her hand and pointed to a large tree a few dozen meters from the safe zone, saying to Zhu Daqi beside her.
"Wang Hao should be near that big tree up ahead."
Carrying the first-aid kit, Zhu Daqi nodded nervously. Always one to cling to life, he had never set foot in the wilderness before.
At the thought of having to follow Chen Xiaoyan into the wilderness, his heart began to pound and his palms grew slick with cold sweat.
Chen Xiaoyan noticed how incredibly tense Zhu Daqi was. ’What a coward,’ she thought with contempt, but since she still needed his help, she comforted him in a gentle tone.
"Relax, don’t be so nervous. We’re only going a few dozen meters. We won’t run into any danger..."
"Okay."
Chen Xiaoyan headed into the wilderness first, with Zhu Daqi cautiously trailing behind her.
After entering the wilderness, the two of them carefully searched for any sign of Wang Hao. It took about twenty minutes, but they finally found him under the big tree they had spotted earlier. He was severely injured and so weak he was barely recognizable.
"Wang Hao," Chen Xiaoyan called out, crouching down in front of him.
Before coming, she had expected Wang Hao to be seriously injured, but she never imagined he would be in such a state. It was much worse than she had thought.
Beside them, Zhu Daqi saw Wang Hao’s miserable, blood-soaked state and was so frightened that his legs began to tremble uncontrollably.
Huuuh...
Letting out a faint breath, Wang Hao, who was on the verge of losing consciousness, slowly opened his eyes.
"You’re finally here."
After saying this, Wang Hao relaxed and fell unconscious.
Seeing Wang Hao pass out, Chen Xiaoyan immediately turned her head to look at Zhu Daqi, who was standing behind her staring blankly at Wang Hao, and shouted, "Give me the first-aid kit..."
"Right." Startled by Wang Hao’s injured state, Zhu Daqi snapped back to his senses when Chen Xiaoyan shouted at him. He immediately came forward and handed her the first-aid kit.
CLICK.
After opening the first-aid kit, Chen Xiaoyan took out scissors, gauze, antiseptic cotton, and hemostatic ointment. She began treating the unconscious Wang Hao with practiced ease.
A short while later, Chen Xiaoyan had cut Wang Hao’s clothes to shreds with the scissors. All his wounds were covered with hemostatic ointment, and the deepest, most severe wound on his chest—one that went down to the bone—was wrapped in gauze.
"Yan, Wang is injured so badly. I don’t think this basic first aid is going to be enough," Zhu Daqi suggested. "I think we should take him to a hospital!"
Chen Xiaoyan glanced at Zhu Daqi. ’If we take him to a hospital,’ she thought, ’the doctors will see these injuries and ask how he got them. If we can’t give a clear explanation, they’ll call the police...’
"It’s fine," Chen Xiaoyan said. "He’ll recover quickly now that I’ve applied the ointment. There’s no need for a hospital."
"Uh... okay!" Since Chen Xiaoyan said so, Zhu Daqi didn’t mention the hospital again. Instead, he asked, "Yan, so are we taking Wang home now?"
Chen Xiaoyan had originally planned to wait for Wang Hao to wake up to get some information before heading back.
But then she considered that even though they were close to the safe zone where the danger was low, if their luck ran out and they ran into a ferocious Mutant Beast, it would be all over for them. So, she decided not to wait for Wang Hao to wake up and to take him straight home.
"We’re going home. You carry him. Be careful not to touch the wound on his chest," Chen Xiaoyan said, then began to pack up the first-aid kit.
Given the extent of Wang Hao’s injuries, this first-aid kit would see plenty more use.
Then, Zhu Daqi picked up the unconscious Wang Hao and walked toward the parking area in the nearby safe zone.
After opening the car door and settling Wang Hao on the back seat, Zhu Daqi got into the driver’s seat, while Chen Xiaoyan took the first-aid kit and got into the other car.
RUMBLE...
The engines started, and the two of them drove off toward the city.
...
The sun was about to set. Dressed in red, the sunset painted most of the once-azure sky in a wash of new color.
Yaaawn~
In the dim room, following the sound of a yawn, the figure lying on the bed threw off the thin blanket and got up.
SWISH...
He pulled open the curtains, and the brilliant red sunset filled Lin Li’s vision.
’I actually slept all the way until evening.’
The long nap left Lin Li feeling completely refreshed. He pulled his gaze from the horizon and left the bedroom.
’Now for some dinner, and then I can finally set the plan I devised this morning into motion.’
STEP, STEP, STEP...
The sound of footsteps came from the stairs. As Lin Li walked out of his bedroom, he saw a figure appear at the top of the stairs, carrying a bucket.
"Miss Qin, it’s getting dark. Why don’t you wait until tomorrow to clean?"
Qin Muqing nodded. "Mr. Lin, are you hungry?"
"A little."
"I see! Should I start making dinner now, then?"
"Yes, go ahead and prepare dinner."
"For dinner tonight, should I cook the same amount as last time?" Qin Muqing asked, recalling that the last time Lin Li ate at home, he had eaten enough for several people all by himself.
"No need to cook as much as last time. Make enough for one less person this time," Lin Li said.
It had been several days since he had eaten the Magical Little Fruit, and the side effects had lessened considerably. His appetite wasn’t as exaggerated as it was at the beginning. In a few more days, it would probably return to a normal person’s level.
"Okay." Qin Muqing smiled and nodded. Just then, the expression on her face suddenly froze, and she quickly headed downstairs with the bucket.
’Why is she in such a hurry all of a sudden?’ Lin Li was completely bewildered.
Qin Muqing carried the bucket down from the third floor. After reaching the second floor, she rushed to her bedroom. She set the bucket down at the door, went inside, and bolted the door behind her.
A faint golden Spiritual Light flashed across Qin Muqing’s face, and her plain, unremarkable features underwent a dramatic transformation.
Phew...
Now with fair, smooth skin, exquisite features, and a slender, graceful figure, Qin Muqing leaned back against the door. She patted her ample chest and let out a long sigh of relief.
’That was a close call.’
