I Start with a Mysterious Island
Chapter 661 - 410: Zhou Tongtong’s Face
Chapter 661: Chapter 410: Zhou Tongtong’s Face
"Meow..." Hearing there was food, the two little strays’ eyes lit up, and they responded in unison.
"Here..." Xia Qing opened a small bag of diced lamb, took out two small pieces, and placed them in front of the two little strays.
"Meow... Thank you." The two little strays lowered their heads to sniff the lamb, then meowed their thanks to Xia Qing. But instead of immediately taking the meat and leaving, they took a few steps forward, moving closer to her.
’What are they doing?’ Xia Qing wondered to herself, watching the two little strays’ actions.
"Meow..." The two little strays stared at Xia Qing with their big, round eyes. ’Isn’t Zhou Tongtong’s mom going to pet us?’ they thought.
If any other human had fed them, the two little strays would have grabbed the food and run off immediately. It was only out of consideration for Zhou Tongtong that they felt they could accept Xia Qing’s food and, in return, let her pet them.
"You don’t... want me to pet you, do you?" Xia Qing guessed hesitantly.
"Meow..." The two little strays took a few more steps forward and rubbed their little heads against Xia Qing’s smooth, shapely calves.
Few people can dislike adorable little animals like cats, and Xia Qing was no exception. However, she had heard from others that these two strays had fierce personalities, so she hadn’t dared to reach out.
Now, seeing them rub so affectionately against her calves, her worries vanished. She squatted down, reached out, and placed her hands on the little strays’ backs, stroking them gently.
Their soft little bodies felt wonderful to the touch, and it couldn’t help but lift her spirits.
The weather outside was still quite hot. Standing out for too long, she couldn’t stop sweating from the periodic waves of heat.
A small patch on the back of Xia Qing’s white T-shirt was visibly damp with sweat.
"It’s too hot out here. I’m going home to take a shower. If you leave the lamb out for too long, it’ll attract flies, not to mention it might go bad. You two should eat it quickly."
Xia Qing took her hands off the two little strays and, without thinking, lectured the two little ones just as her daughter would.
Only after she finished speaking did she realize her mistake. "Oh! It’s not like they can understand me anyway."
Picking up the large bag from the ground, Xia Qing headed for the entrance of Building Three.
"Meow... Zhou Tongtong’s mom is leaving," said the Little Black Cat.
"Meow... I know. Let’s hurry back under the tree," said the Little White Cat.
"Meow... She just told us to hurry up and eat these two pieces of lamb," the Little Black Cat said.
"Meow... We’ll eat it under the big tree." After speaking, the Little White Cat snatched up its piece of lamb and quickly ran toward the shade of the large tree in the green belt. Seeing this, the Little Black Cat also grabbed its piece and scurried after it.
The two little creatures then returned to the cool shade and feasted on the delicious lamb Xia Qing had given them.
...
DING.
The elevator doors opened. Xia Qing, holding a large bag, was about to step out when she suddenly saw a man in a black suit and sunglasses standing in front of the elevator.
When the man saw Xia Qing, he immediately stepped aside. Seeing this, Xia Qing walked out of the elevator.
’Is this guy in the wrong place?’ Xia Qing wondered as she watched him enter the elevator. The doors closed, and it began to descend.
She had sweated a lot in the hot weather and just wanted to get home and take a shower. The thought about the man in sunglasses appeared in her mind for only a moment before she pushed it away.
Under the leafy, sprawling tree in the green belt, the two little strays were happily tearing into the delicious lamb from Xia Qing.
A faint golden Spiritual Light flashed in the Little White Cat’s eyes. While swallowing a mouthful of lamb, it lifted its head and looked toward the entrance of Building Three in the distance.
A moment later, the man with the sunglasses—the one the Little White Cat sensed a dangerous aura from—emerged from the entrance of Building Three.
The Little Black Cat noticed its companion’s movement. It looked up, followed its gaze into the distance, and saw the man with the sunglasses—the one its partner had said gave off a dangerous aura.
"Meow... He’s out! Do you think he’s a thief?"
"Meow... He probably isn’t a thief. Look, he isn’t carrying anything new."
Hearing its companion suspect the man in sunglasses was a thief, the Little White Cat observed him for a moment. It saw his hands were empty, no different from when he had entered Building Three earlier.
Having illegally broken into Lin Li’s home, Wang Hao had searched the place but found no trace of his target, which left him very disappointed.
After all, on his way over, he had thought that by coming in person, he would be able to catch his target with ease.
Outside Ping’an Garden District, under a roadside tree across the street, a man and a woman stood in the shade, watching the community’s main gate not far away.
HUFF...
Zhu Daqi took a deep drag, the cigarette in his mouth burning down quickly. He then blew two streams of white smoke from his nostrils.
"Yan, if Wang goes to find that guy Lin Li himself this time and he doesn’t know anything about the boss’s situation, where do we even start looking for clues next?"
Zhu Daqi spat the nearly finished cigarette onto the ground and turned to ask Chen Xiaoyan beside him.
Chen Xiaoyan glanced down at the cigarette butt Zhu Daqi had spat on the ground, frowned, and said to him,
"He’s taking full charge of the search for your boss from now on. We’ll just do whatever he says."
Hearing Chen Xiaoyan’s words, Zhu Daqi understood that she didn’t know what to do next either if this lead went cold.
TAP, TAP, TAP...
Just as the two exchanged a few idle words, a set of footsteps approached from behind.
"Young man."
Hearing someone call out, Zhu Daqi and Chen Xiaoyan turned to look behind them. The speaker was an elderly woman in her sixties with a red armband.
"Is there a problem?" Zhu Daqi asked. He didn’t immediately register why this old woman with a red armband was calling out to him.
Chen Xiaoyan, on the other hand, understood the woman’s intentions the moment she saw her.
"Littering cigarette butts, that’s a thirty-yuan fine," the old woman with the red armband said, pointing at the cigarette butt Zhu Daqi had just thrown on the ground.
"Uh... I..." Hearing the old woman’s words, Zhu Daqi glanced at the still-smoldering cigarette butt she was pointing to. His first instinct was to deny that he had been the one to drop it.
But just as the words were about to leave his mouth, Chen Xiaoyan cut him off. "Pay the fine."
"Yan," Zhu Daqi said, looking at Chen Xiaoyan. He wanted to say he wasn’t going to pay, but after she shot him a glare, he had no choice but to take out his wallet and pay the fine.
"Young man, don’t just throw your cigarette butts on the ground like that in the future. If everyone did what you did, the ground would be covered in them. Just think how ugly that would be!"
After taking the fine, the old woman with the red armband took a small notepad from her pocket, wrote out a receipt for the fine, tore it out, and handed it to Zhu Daqi.
"Yes, yes, you’re right. I was wrong. It won’t happen again..."
Although he paid the fine begrudgingly, Zhu Daqi could only nod and admit his mistake. Then, under her watchful eye, he extinguished the cigarette butt he had thrown, picked it up, and tossed it into a trash can in the distance.
After the old woman with the red armband left, Zhu Daqi and Chen Xiaoyan saw Wang Hao walk out of the main gate of Ping’an Garden District.
"Yan, Wang’s back."
"Mm, I see him."
