I Really Didn’t Mean to Make Money
Chapter 401: Orchard Experimental Base
In the Manager’s Office of Boring Short Video,
Yang Yaoyao knocked gently on the door before stepping inside.
“Supervisor Yang, is there something I can help you with?”
Li Shen set down the documents in his hand and looked up at Yang Yaoyao as she entered.
“General Manager Li, this is the promotion and development plan for the academic subject live stream section of Boring Short Video that we put together this morning. Please take a look.”
Hearing his inquiry, Yang Yaoyao hurried to hand the proposal to Li Shen.
She and Liu Weiwei had started drafting this plan immediately after discussing their ideas for promoting academic live streams.
They had finished organizing the proposal just moments ago.
After confirming there were no issues, she brought it over, hoping for Li Shen’s approval.
After all, they were only supervisors of a single department within Boring Short Video; it was better not to execute major decisions or plans without authorization.A promotion plan for academic subject live streams?
Li Shen was somewhat surprised to hear this. He hadn’t expected Yang Yaoyao and Liu Weiwei to produce a promotion plan on their very first day of work, and he wasn’t sure if such a plan would even be viable.
“Have a seat first.”
He gestured toward the chair in front of his desk, took the proposal, and began reading through it with curiosity.
After a long while,
Li Shen took a deep breath and looked up at Yang Yaoyao. His eyes were filled with profound disbelief.
Before reading the proposal, he had wondered if it would be reliable. After all, only half a day had passed since they started work. Any plan produced in such a short time would usually be rushed or full of loopholes.
To his surprise, however, the plan was exceptionally comprehensive. It covered everything from promotion methods to how to select streamers, and finally, the implementation strategy.
Every detail was meticulously documented.
More importantly, the feasibility of this promotion plan was very high, and it didn’t conflict with Boring Short Video’s current development and marketing strategies.
The plan didn’t rely on Boring Short Video’s own promotional efforts at all. Instead, it leveraged the benefits and exclusivity of the positions to encourage prospective employees to promote the platform themselves.
“General Manager Li, is there a problem with the plan?”
Yang Yaoyao asked nervously when she saw that Li Shen hadn’t spoken for a long time.
She wondered if there was some flaw in the proposal they had written.
“No problem at all. It’s perfect. I fully support it. If you need any help or resources, just ask. Just make sure this plan is implemented as soon as possible so the academic subject live stream section can return to its former state.”
Li Shen snapped out of his thoughts when he heard Yaoyao call his name.
He approved the promotion plan without the slightest hesitation.
“Thank you, General Manager Li. We do have one request: could we add one or two more employees? Once the plan is implemented, we’ll need people to organize the data of those who want to join Boring Short Video as streamers, and then pass it to our auditing department for review as quickly as possible.”
Yang Yaoyao finally breathed a sigh of relief when she saw Li Shen nod in agreement.
She then carefully voiced her request. In reality, she and Liu Weiwei could handle the current workload, but it would mean delaying other tasks.
Doing so would slow down the progress of the promotion plan.
If they wanted to implement and execute the plan as quickly as possible, adding one or two employees was a necessity.
“New employees? That’s easy. I’ll notify the HR department in a moment. Just tell them what kind of employees you’re looking for. They’ll select and recruit them for the company as quickly as possible,” Li Shen said with a smile.
Hiring new employees was incredibly simple.
Ever since Mingri Group was established, the salary and benefits packages for its employees had gradually become common knowledge.
People wanting to join Mingri Group were practically lining up.
For their current recruitment, unless they were looking for specific, specialized talent, they didn’t even have to wait for resumes for ordinary positions.
The number of resumes in the HR department’s inbox was already beyond counting.
If they wanted to hire someone, they just had to pick a few suitable candidates from those resumes and conduct interviews.
“I understand, General Manager Li.”
Yang Yaoyao nodded, discussed a few more details of the plan, and then left the office.
Watching Yang Yaoyao leave, Li Shen couldn’t help but feel impressed.
President Chen was truly President Chen. He could tell just by looking at a data report that Yang Yaoyao and Liu Weiwei were talents.
He had been somewhat skeptical before.
Now it seemed he had simply been short-sighted.
Yang Yaoyao and Liu Weiwei had come up with a promotion plan for the academic section on their very first day.
If that wasn’t talent, what was?
Knock, knock, knock!
A knock sounded at the door, and Wu Yu walked in with a smile on his face.
“Brother Shen, it’s about time to head out, isn’t it?”
“Mm.”
Li Shen picked up his phone to check the time.
2:15 PM.
“Alright, let’s go.”
He had an appointment to meet Professor Yuan Chenghua[1] at 5:00 PM. It was about a two-hour drive from Mingri Group, but to avoid any unexpected delays on the road, he decided it was better to leave early.
Professor Yuan was a very busy man. It was rare for him to make time to discuss matters regarding Boring Short Video.
It would be unacceptable if they were late for the appointment.
He stood up, straightened his clothes, and left the office with Wu Yu.
“By the way, are the gifts ready?” he asked Wu Yu as they walked.
“They’re ready and already in the car,” Wu Yu replied quickly.
“Good.”
Li Shen nodded, relieved.
Jiang City,
Suburbs,
Orchard Experimental Base.
“This is the place.”
Li Shen pulled into a parking spot and looked at the sign for the Orchard Experimental Base to confirm they were in the right place.
He turned off the engine and got out.
Wu Yu took all the gifts out of the trunk—there were more than twenty gift boxes in total.
“Let’s go.”
Li Shen took half of the boxes and walked toward the entrance of the base.
Before coming, Yuan Chenghua had told him that outside vehicles were not allowed inside the Orchard Experimental Base. Even visitors required permission to enter.
They reached the gate and explained their purpose to the guard.
The two waited quietly outside for a few minutes until they saw a young man jogging out from inside the base.
The young man reached the gate, saw Li Shen and Wu Yu waiting, and asked with a smile, “You must be Manager Li and Manager Wu?”
Translator’s Notes
1. Professor Yuan Chenghua: The surname Yuan (袁) combined with an ‘Orchard Experimental Base’ context is likely a cultural nod to Yuan Longping, the ‘Father of Hybrid Rice’ and a national hero in China for his contributions to agriculture. ↩
