I Really Didn’t Mean to Make Money

Chapter 399: Academic Subject Live Stream Reform

Chen Mo rubbed his chest and let out a helpless sigh.

Thankfully, the system had previously unlocked the permission to open Nanhe Coffee stores. Aside from the five basic locations, the revenue from the Coffee Shops could now be used to fund new store openings.

This month, with 7.3 million yuan in revenue, it was enough to open two more Nanhe Coffee branches in Beijing. Including the original five base stores, that meant next time, they could open up to seven Nanhe Coffee branches in Beijing all at once.

At this point, Chen Mo had two options for Nanhe Coffee.

The first option was to stop expanding and keep Nanhe Coffee as it was. In that case, the brand would become a relatively useless asset to him. It wouldn’t lose him much money, but it wouldn’t bring in much either.

After paying employee salaries at the beginning of the month, Nanhe Coffee’s overall monthly revenue only fell short of covering expenses by a few tens of thousands.

And if he factored in the profitable Coffee Shops in Beijing, Nanhe Coffee’s overall balance was already close to breaking even.

So, if he chose not to continue expanding, Nanhe Coffee would essentially serve no purpose and might even face profitability issues in the future.

The second option was to continue expanding Nanhe Coffee. That way, he could maintain a consistent level of expenditure.

This expenditure included the cost of opening five new Nanhe Coffee stores each month, as well as wages for existing employees and procurement costs. As for the monthly revenue from the Coffee Shops, he could funnel all of it into opening additional stores.

If he stuck with this model, the growth rate of Nanhe Coffee branches would accelerate rapidly. And as the number of branches increased, so too would the total salary expenses each month.

That would create an ideal scenario: with Nanhe Coffee expanding continuously, his monthly spending on the brand would steadily rise.

But this came with a significant risk—eventually, the domestic and even global market for Nanhe Coffee Shops would reach saturation.

At that point, he would no longer be able to open new stores.

If, by then, Nanhe Coffee had already turned a profit and entered a stable, profitable phase, it would become a highly lucrative business.

Chen Mo tapped the tip of his pen against the table, deep in thought.

After a long pause, he finally snapped out of it, took a deep breath, and made his decision.

He would continue developing Nanhe Coffee.

After all, reaching global market saturation would take several years. During that time, he could use Nanhe Coffee to burn through more of the System Funds.

As for whether Nanhe Coffee would be profitable in a few years, that wasn’t something he needed to worry about right now.

Because by then, who knew how many times he would’ve fully converted the System Funds? His personal assets would likely be well into the hundreds of millions.

At that point, even if Nanhe Coffee was profitable, it wouldn’t matter much to him anymore.

Having made up his mind, he immediately sent a message to Song Xia, outlining the future development plan for Nanhe Coffee and instructing her to implement it as soon as possible.

With the Nanhe Coffee matter settled, he skimmed through the reports from his other companies. After confirming there were no issues, he finally relaxed and picked up his coffee for a sip.

…………….

At Boring Short Video,

Yang Yaoyao and Liu Weiwei stood in the empty studio, still feeling a bit out of place.

Just like that, they had become the Supervisors of the company.

And just moments ago, their salaries had already been deposited into their bank accounts, confirming the early payment they had been promised.

“Come on, let’s go take a look at the data report for the Academic Subject Live Stream. No matter what, I’m going to give this job my all,” Yang Yaoyao said seriously, taking a deep breath.

Just last night, she and Liu Weiwei had taken the time to learn more about the Mingri Group.

Only then did they realize how vast and diverse the industries under the Mingri Group were. Based on what their parents had told them, they also knew that the Mingri Group treated its employees very well and was a highly reliable company.

Given that, they were determined to work hard and grow the Academic Subject Live Stream division of Boring Short Video into something strong and successful.

“Yeah!” Liu Weiwei nodded and followed Yang Yaoyao into the office.

They sat down in front of the computer and began reviewing the Academic Subject Live Stream data report that General Manager Li had sent over.

Of course,

This time, the data report for the Academic Subject Live Stream had been sent over by someone else. From now on, they would need to log into the Boring Short Video backend themselves and check the data on their own.

The two of them sat in front of the computer, watching the report while taking out their notebooks to jot down notes.

After a while,

Yang Yaoyao looked at the compiled data comparison and spoke slowly.

“Based on the number of subject streamers and the current viewership of the Academic Subject Live Stream, it’s already reaching saturation. We should pause the recruitment of new subject streamers. Only when the number of viewers increases significantly should we consider bringing in more streamers.”

“Yeah, that seems about right.”

Liu Weiwei nodded slowly as she looked at the data report, then let out a sigh.

“But if that’s the case, the Academic Subject Live Stream has hit a deadlock.”

Hearing this, Yang Yaoyao furrowed her brows tightly.

Just this morning, after arriving at the company, Li Shen had handed over all responsibilities related to the Academic Subject Live Stream section of Boring Short Video to them. But among the handover details was one rule they couldn’t quite understand: Boring Short Video employees were not allowed to promote Boring Short Video.

They didn’t understand the reasoning behind this rule, but since it was an order from above, they had no choice but to follow it.

However, this put the Boring Short Video Live Streaming section in a rather awkward position.

From the moment they joined and promotion for the Academic Subject Live Stream was halted, the number of viewers had essentially plateaued.

Of course, there were still small daily increases, mostly thanks to parents and students spreading the word on their own.

But the growth was minimal. At this rate, if they wanted the Academic Subject Live Stream to really take off, who knew how long it would take?

And with such slow growth in viewership, they couldn’t justify bringing in new subject streamers.

Which meant,

The Academic Subject Live Stream section was stuck in place. And as the Supervisors of the section, they would naturally be held responsible.

The two of them stared at the Boring Short Video data report, both lost in thought.

No one knew how much time had passed,

When suddenly, Yang Yaoyao’s eyes lit up. She spoke slowly, her voice filled with excitement.

“If we can’t promote it ourselves, then why not let others promote it? Just like we did in the beginning!”
