Ch. 1457 - Crisis of Ocean Sage City, Man In The Black Robe
Violet mist exploded across the heavens, spreading over a vast stretch of sky and earth. Yet the Water Beasts, instead of being cowed, roared in defiance, as though provoked by the Saint Sovereign’s power.
The Violet Mist Saint Sovereign gave a deep, cold snort. He swung his arm downward, and with a thunderous boom, a blinding burst of violet energy erupted. The light swept across the land, and a whole swath of Water Beasts was instantly annihilated, reduced to nothing.
But the Saint Sovereign was not satisfied. He lifted his arm again.
Now he stood above the boundless sea itself, and all the waters seemed to obey his will. The ocean roared as endless waves rose up around him, the power of the tides drawn into his command. It was as if the sea would be drained dry.
He was going to drown the Water Beasts with their own element.
The sound of crashing waves filled the air, deafening and unending. When the beasts looked up, they could no longer see the sky, only a towering wall of water descending upon them, swallowing everything.
Such was the might of a Saint Sovereign.
When a Saint Sovereign was enraged, mountains overturned and seas rose to the heavens. The world itself trembled.
As the deluge consumed the battlefield, the people of Ocean Sage City erupted into cheers.
“The Saint Sovereign is unstoppable! He’s slaughtering the Water Beasts!”
“With the Violet Mist Saint Sovereign here, our city has nothing to fear!”
“Perhaps this is his way of saying farewell,” someone murmured wistfully.
As long as a Saint Sovereign protected them, Ocean Sage City would never fall. Joy and excitement spread like wildfire; people on the walls began to celebrate and dance.
But the Saint Sovereign’s expression remained solemn. There was no joy in his eyes as he gazed down below.
The floodwaters drowned everything, and gradually the beasts’ roars faded into silence.
Xu Zimo glanced at the City Lord.
“It seems,” he said quietly, “things are turning for the worse.”
Dragon Lord’s face darkened. He, too, sensed something was wrong. His eyes fixed on the sea below, not daring to blink.
After a long silence, a deep, guttural roar shattered the calm.
Xu Zimo narrowed his eyes and looked.
From within the vast ocean, an enormous creature slowly rose.
It stood several thousand meters tall, its height rivaling even the city walls of Ocean Sage City.
On closer inspection, one could see it was composed entirely of countless Water Beasts fused together. Its entire body was covered with writhing beast heads, merging and twisting into a single abomination.
It had no legs; beneath it was a mass of thick, viscous fluid that oozed forward as it moved. Its form constantly shifted, amorphous, formless, like living water itself.
But what caught everyone’s attention was the faint blue membrane enveloping its surface.
The film shielded the creature, preventing the surrounding seawater from harming it, a deliberate adaptation against the Saint Sovereign’s flood.
“They’ve actually come up with this,” Dragon Lord said bitterly. “Their rate of evolution is terrifying. Give them more time, and Ocean Sage City may truly not last much longer.”
“No need to worry yet,” Xu Zimo said with a slight smile. “It’s still under control for now.”
“Master Xu,” the City Lord said seriously, “I know you went searching for the origin of the Water Beasts. I don’t know your purpose, but I still hope you can help free the entire Inferno Crucible Heaven from this calamity.”
“Don’t count on me,” Xu Zimo replied, shaking his head. “Your Radiant Court already has true powerhouses. If they haven’t stepped in, it means the situation isn’t dire enough yet.”
The City Lord could only smile bitterly.
He knew exactly whom Xu Zimo meant.
The Radiant Court was one of the Seven God Realms. Though all seven were equal in name, everyone knew that the Radiant Court reigned supreme.
Because within it existed a being of true terror, Primordial Flame, a cultivator who had achieved the Infinite Dao. A being who could walk unchallenged across all Nine Heavens.
How could such a figure not inspire fear?
The Water Beasts were the scourge of the Inferno Crucible Heaven, but if even Primordial Flame hadn’t intervened, why would Xu Zimo trouble himself over it?
Even if the entire heaven were wiped out, what did it have to do with him?
The City Lord understood this and said no more. With the enemy before them, it was better to focus on dealing with the monstrous creature now.
The monster roared furiously, turning its countless eyes toward the Violet Mist Saint Sovereign.
A torrent of flames burst from its gaping maw, an inferno sweeping through the air, obliterating everything in its path.
The Saint Sovereign responded with another cold snort.
A barrier of violet energy unfolded before him, blocking the torrent completely.
But then, from the side, a new force struck, vast and violent, brimming with annihilating power, aimed straight at the Saint Sovereign.
“I’ve been waiting for you,” the Saint Sovereign said coldly. “I thought you wouldn’t dare to show yourself.”
With one hand, he held back the fiery flood. With the other, he clenched his fist, and a blinding sun of violet light burst forth, colliding head-on with the incoming power.
BOOM!
The world itself seemed to crack apart.
Everyone on the walls instinctively covered their ears; the explosion reverberated through their skulls until their eardrums rang as if they would burst.
When the rumbling finally subsided, Xu Zimo looked up, and saw that the sky had literally collapsed.
The heavens above were torn, fragments of space scattering into nothingness.
The Violet Mist Saint Sovereign had been hurled backward, though he quickly steadied himself, a grim smile curling his lips.
“So you’ve finally come out,” he said. “Stronger than I expected.”
His eyes locked on the attacker, a figure cloaked entirely in black.
The newcomer’s identity was completely hidden beneath a robe that shrouded his form in shadow. Only a pair of cold, gleaming eyes could be seen beneath the hood.
“How amusing,” the black-robed man rasped. “Since when did Ocean Sage City have a Saint Sovereign? Even I hadn’t heard of you.”
It made sense, since the Violet Mist Saint Sovereign had never revealed his power before, few would know of his presence.
“There’s much you don’t know,” the Saint Sovereign said with a snort. “Coward, hiding behind that hood. If you have any courage, take it off.”
“I have my reasons,” the black-robed man said evenly. “But fear isn’t one of them. Even with a Saint Sovereign here, Ocean Sage City cannot escape destruction.”
He raised a hand, directing the monstrous abomination toward the city.
The creature began to advance, its liquid body surging forward. The seawater barriers could no longer stop it.
The Saint Sovereign tried to intercept, but the black-robed man blocked his path.
“You stay here,” the stranger said with a cruel smile. “Watch as this beautiful city is wiped from existence. If you want to fight, I’ll play with you.”
As the monster crept closer and closer to Ocean Sage City, a faint sigh broke the tension.
“So this is what your Heavenly Court has become,” a voice said.
Xu Zimo stepped forward.
Long Wulin stared at his back, stunned, her mind struggling to process what she was seeing.
Then, as a vast, oppressive aura erupted from Xu Zimo’s body, the entire world seemed to collapse under its weight.
