Chapter 704: Chapter 704: It seems he still hasn’t given up on you

He cried, without any warning.

"Brother Kingsley, why are you crying?" Ivy Tanner blurted out.

As far as she could remember, this was the first time she had ever seen him cry.

She never imagined this impossibly arrogant man would actually shed tears just because she rejected him.

’This... must be the biggest joke in the universe.’

Ethan Kingsley stared at her face through blurred, teary eyes. He watched her slightly parted lips, and a growing sense of resentment and frustration welled up inside him, making him want to do *something*.

He was about to kiss her again when several people appeared outside the car and one of them knocked on the window.

They were Lucas Rhodes’s men.

A sinister glint flashed in Ethan Kingsley’s eyes. As if in defiance, he abruptly pulled Ivy Tanner into his arms, catching her completely off guard...

Ivy Tanner’s mind went blank. She instinctively tried to struggle, but just as she did, the man let her go.

"Little Cutie, I’ll come see you again next time. Go on, get back."

With that, Ethan Kingsley leaned over and opened the car door for her.

Ivy Tanner glanced at his face and finally just said, "Goodbye, Brother Kingsley."

’Like hell I want to see him again.’

The moment she was out of the car, Ivy Tanner couldn’t wait to leave with the men.

Ethan Kingsley slumped over the steering wheel. In his nearly thirty years of life, it was the first time he had tasted failure, and the first time he had lost himself over a woman.

Suddenly, it felt as if the world had lost all meaning.

But the next second, he snapped his head back up.

’Damn it!’

’How could I question my entire existence, even give up on myself, just because some fool said she didn’t like me?’

’This isn’t like me!’

’If her leaving affects me this much, then the only right thing to do is to snatch her back.’

A murderous glint flashed in Ethan Kingsley’s eyes as a plan began to form in his mind.

This time, he would never let anyone take her from him again!

–

The rain started suddenly.

Ivy Tanner hid inside the house, the TV on. She stared blankly at the news, a persistent feeling of unease settling in her heart.

’Ethan Kingsley actually cried just because of one thing I said. A man as conceited and arrogant as him—how could he possibly shed tears for a fool like me?’

’This wasn’t the man I knew!’

’Either way, I can’t accept it.’

’No, that’s not right. A man like him would never let this go.’

’He’s definitely going to do something...’

’Either he’ll drag me back, or he’ll send someone to kill me. All because I can affect his emotions.’

The more Ivy Tanner thought about it, the more terrified she became. She wanted to talk to Claire Sinclair, but then she remembered that Claire was in no position to protect herself, let alone help her. She could only rely on herself.

’What should I do?’

At that moment, Ivy Tanner panicked.

Just then, the landline at home began to ring.

Ivy Tanner’s heart clenched. She hurried over to answer it. "Hello?"

"Iris, it’s me." A man’s gentle, pleasant voice came from the other end of the line.

"What’s wrong?" Ivy Tanner asked immediately.

"Did Ethan Kingsley find you today?"

"Yes, you know."

"Did he do anything to you?"

Ivy Tanner paused for a moment before answering honestly, "He kissed me."

Lucas Rhodes was silent for a moment, then said gravely, "It seems he still hasn’t given up on you. I was in a car accident over here, so I might be back two days later than planned. Try to stay home and don’t go out, so he can’t harass you again."

"Was the accident serious?" Ivy Tanner asked with concern.

"It’s not too serious. I’ll be fine after a couple of days’ rest." Lucas Rhodes was lying in a hospital bed, his forehead wrapped in thick gauze. He wasn’t in great shape, but he wouldn’t tell her the truth. He didn’t want her to worry; a pregnant woman shouldn’t be overthinking things.

Ivy Tanner breathed a sigh of relief. "How did you get into a car accident?"
