I Married the President
Chapter 676: A Verbal Thank You Is Insincere
Chapter 676: Chapter 676: A Verbal Thank You Is Insincere
Theo Rhodes smiled and changed the subject. "We’ve been so busy since we got back that we haven’t even gone to see Hanson. How about we find some time to visit him?"
Claire Sinclair glanced back instinctively and saw Bonnie Yates staring blankly at her computer. "Let’s just forget it," she said. "Teacher Hartwell finally managed to get some time off. We shouldn’t go be third wheels."
Theo Rhodes couldn’t help but complain, "Hanson is really something else. He clearly doesn’t need to be in the hospital, but he insists on faking it for this long. Bonnie Yates is just too gullible. I’m so tempted to tell her the truth."
Claire Sinclair reminded him, "You may be clever, but you’re still a little green compared to Teacher Hartwell. I’d advise you not to get on his bad side."
Theo Rhodes: "..."
’Ah, that poor girl.’
Claire Sinclair was about to say something else when her phone suddenly vibrated. She had a message from an unknown number: "I’ll be waiting for you at The Blue Cafe tomorrow at 12:05 PM. —J"
Claire Sinclair’s heart skipped a beat. She knew exactly who had sent it.
’After all, Orion Osborne saved my life. It’s only right that I go thank him properly.’
’The Blue Cafe is near the office and always bustling with people, so meeting there is fine. I guess I’ll go.’
Claire Sinclair replied with a single word: "Okay."
Then, she opened her messaging app and sent a message to Adrian Quincy: "Mr. Quincy, I’m going to meet Orion Osborne at The Blue Cafe tomorrow. Are you okay with that?"
Adrian Quincy: "I’m not."
Claire Sinclair pouted and typed back, "I’ve already told you about it, so just let me go. Otherwise, I’ll just pick a different place and meet him in secret."
Adrian Quincy: "Claire, if you’re just going to thank him, there’s no need. I’ve already done so verbally."
Claire Sinclair: "A verbal thank you doesn’t feel sincere enough."
Adrian Quincy: "What do you want to do, then?"
’I am a married woman, after all,’ Claire thought. ’And Orion Osborne and I are on different sides... thanking him face-to-face doesn’t seem quite right.’
’I’ve got it!’
Claire Sinclair immediately typed: "How about this: I’ll go to the mall tonight and buy something, then have someone deliver the thank-you gift to the cafe tomorrow. I won’t go myself. How does that sound?"
Adrian Quincy: "Fine."
’Great!’
Claire Sinclair, happy they had reached an agreement, sent him a kissing emoji.
Adrian Quincy replied a moment later: "I’ll go with you tonight."
Claire Sinclair: "..."
’She knew it. This guy would never let her pick out a gift that easily.’
’Oh well. He was her husband, after all. She didn’t want to hide anything from him about this, lest she stir up his resentment and make him unhappy.’
’Speaking of which...’
Claire Sinclair suddenly thought of someone. ’I was missing for nearly a month. That girl must have been worried sick.’ She wanted to call her right away to check in.
Unfortunately, she had a new phone, and all her old contacts were gone. She had to search the phone book in her memory and began to type in the number.
Before she could even finish typing and press call, a call came in from that very number.
Claire Sinclair answered the call immediately and heard an excited voice on the other end. "Sinclair! You’re finally back! I saw you posted an article online and called right away!"
Claire Sinclair chuckled. "I’m sorry for making you worry all this time."
"Uh, I’m the one who should be sorry. I was so useless. I couldn’t do anything to help when you were missing. But thank goodness you’re back!"
Claire Sinclair asked her, "How have you been lately?"
Ivy Tanner said, "I’m living at Mr. Rhodes’s house now. He came to propose half a month ago, and Ethan Kingsley agreed. I don’t think I’ll ever have to go back to that place again... I’m just a little sad to leave behind the flowers I planted."
