I Married the President
Chapter 652: You Shouldn’t Have Gone to That Kind of Place
Chapter 652: Chapter 652: You Shouldn’t Have Gone to That Kind of Place
Theo Rhodes continued, "Also, one thing’s for sure about The Inferno—a lot of people have died there. People die almost every month. Besides the clients who gamble their lives away, the dead are a commodity here, too. For example, if I have a mortal enemy and I’m willing to pay a high price, the boss behind the scenes will have his people drag my enemy here and torture them to death."
"That’s terrifying!" Claire couldn’t even imagine such things happening in the world.
Theo Rhodes covered her mouth and whispered, "Master, keep your voice down."
Claire understood and nodded. "Keep going."
"That’s pretty much everything. To sum it up in one sentence: Paradise deals with the living, and The Inferno deals with the dead. As for whether Hanson is in The Inferno... that’s hard to say for sure. But my gut tells me he’s definitely here."
"Is The Inferno heavily guarded?"
Theo Rhodes nodded. "Heavily guarded is an understatement. Last time, I pretended to be drunk and tried to get a look, but a dozen knives were suddenly pointed at me. I sobered up instantly and ran right back."
Claire looked at him sympathetically. ’This kid is really proactive. He’s been working hard.’
Theo Rhodes said with a hint of resignation, "Master, about this... I think we’re too weak on our own. We should go back and get reinforcements. For the next few days, let’s just focus on eating, drinking, and having fun. The moment the city gates open, we leave."
The more casually he spoke, the more worried Claire became. "I’m afraid it’s not as simple as we think. Let’s see what Teacher Hartwell’s situation is first."
"Alright, Master. It’s time for us to put on a show."
Claire raised an eyebrow. "What kind of show did you have in mind?"
"Just play along with me." With that, Theo Rhodes shouted toward the door, "Hey, little beauty! Come on over and tell your big bro a bedtime story!"
Claire was speechless.
Although the whole thing was rather embarrassing, Claire played along, shouting for a full half-hour. Afterward, the two of them emerged from the room, looking full of energy.
Theo Rhodes, like a gallant knight, escorted her back.
As they walked into the suite area of the South District, a figure suddenly stepped out from a corner. The person’s eyes were fixed on the door they had just closed, and they lingered there for a long time.
His escort mission complete, Theo Rhodes returned to his own room.
Claire was now alone in the room. Her heart felt unsettled, but she couldn’t pinpoint the source of her unease.
When Orion Osborne returned, Claire immediately rushed over to him. "How did it go? Do you have any news about Teacher Hartwell?"
Orion Osborne took off his suit jacket as he said, "There’s no doubt about it. Henry Hartwell is being held in The Inferno."
A flicker of joy went through Claire’s heart, but it was immediately overwhelmed by worry. "Is he okay?"
Orion Osborne nodded. "He’s still alive."
"Is he hurt?"
"Completely unscathed. He probably has important information, which is the only reason the boss behind the scenes hasn’t killed him."
"That’s great..." Claire let out a small sigh of relief, but her worries hadn’t lessened in the slightest.
’Teacher Hartwell was captured, but at least his life was spared. He must have set up a contingency plan for himself. But he’s been locked up for so many days now...’
’How long could this temporary reprieve last?’
Orion Osborne moved closer to her, sniffed the air, and suddenly frowned. "You went to the West District?"
Surprise flashed across Claire’s face. "You can tell just by smelling?"
"The air freshener they use in the West District is different from the one in the South District," Orion said in a low voice. "You shouldn’t go to a place like that." He then picked up the jacket he had just taken off, put it back on, and started to head out.
Claire quickly called out to him, "Where are you going?"
