Back in the room, Claire Sinclair was hit by a sudden wave of dry heaves, leaving her breathless.

Orion Osborne panicked. He squatted beside her, gently placing a long arm on her shoulder. "What’s wrong?" he asked, concerned.

Claire Sinclair forced down her discomfort. "It’s nothing. I probably just ate too much. My stomach feels a little upset."

"I’ll go get you some medicine."

As he was about to leave, Claire Sinclair reached out and grabbed his arm. "You don’t have to. I’m fine now."

She managed to get to her feet, wanting to rest on the bed.

Orion Osborne swept her into his arms, strode over to the bed, and gently laid her down.

The whole time, Claire Sinclair kept a hand on her lower abdomen.

A realization seemed to dawn on Orion Osborne. He asked, "Are you pregnant?"

Claire Sinclair froze. Biting her lip, she said in a low voice, "I thought I could hide it."

Orion Osborne’s brow furrowed slightly, his tone tinged with displeasure. "You don’t have to hide something like this from me. I won’t hurt you, and I won’t hurt your child."

Claire Sinclair looked up at him, her eyes filled with confusion. "Why are you being so good to me?"

"Good to you?"

"Isn’t this good?"

A faint smile touched Orion Osborne’s lips. "Claire Sinclair, I just see you as a friend. I never hurt my friends."

’Friend...’

’That was a word Claire Sinclair wasn’t quite used to.’

’In her world, besides her late sister, her doting husband, her protective boss, and her respectful apprentice, her only true friend was Ivy Tanner, who was thousands of miles away.’

Orion Osborne patted her shoulder. "We’re on different sides, so you don’t need to feel any pressure. My choice to see you as a friend is my own. Get some rest. I’ll go get you some folic acid."

Claire Sinclair was taken aback. She then remembered that she’d stopped taking her supplements five days ago. For someone with her constitution, folic acid was essential. ’I can’t believe he noticed that.’

Just then, there was a sudden knock on the door.

Claire Sinclair’s heart clenched, and she looked toward the door.

’It’s not Orion. He has a key!’

’Who could it be?’

Claire Sinclair pulled out her mini-gun and crept to the door. Peeking through the peephole, she saw a man in a mask. His build was somewhat familiar, and she thought she recognized his clothes.

’Is that Theo Rhodes?’

Claire Sinclair opened the door. The man immediately called out, "Master, is that you?"

"Theo Rhodes!" Claire Sinclair exclaimed.

Theo Rhodes immediately put a finger to his lips. "Don’t use my real name here. Just call me Young Master Rhodes."

Claire Sinclair nodded in understanding and then asked, "What about Teacher Hartwell? Have you found him?"

A profound look flickered in Theo Rhodes’s eyes. He shook his head. "Master, can we talk inside your room? People are always walking by here, and some things are better said in private."

Claire Sinclair glanced down both ends of the hallway and, sure enough, saw people approaching from both directions. She quickly pulled Theo Rhodes inside, then locked and deadbolted the door.
