Chapter 97: Chapter 95: You’re actually making it your waiter?
Shu Chao Yu’s day was a total daze.
First thing in the morning, he’d gotten an urgent mission. The higher-ups claimed they’d found a trace of the Star Network’s most-wanted criminal, the interstellar hacker God M.
He’d actually thought Ma had been exposed and was nervous for him for a second.
He’d rushed to the office in a panic, only to end up wasting the entire day just checking a list.
His superior claimed that God M was a fan of the food influencer Lin Zhenxiang and ordered him to go through her entire fan list, one by one. "Don’t miss a single one!"
’But Lin Zhenxiang has over thirty million fans!’
’Checking them one by one... when would I ever finish? Besides, I know for a fact Ma unfollowed her the second she betrayed him!’
When his superior handed him this "glorious and arduous" task, he couldn’t say a word. He could only accept it with feigned gratitude and quietly get to work.
’The thought of missing the new Kunlun Mecha model launch for this bullshit assignment left only one word in his mind—’
’FUCK!’
’He was so damn pissed, he even had the urge to sell out Ma!’
After work, he returned home, exhausted in body and soul. He hugged Xiao Juzi and snuggled him for a good while before he regained some of his energy.
"Xiao Bao, your grand-uncle is so miserable~ Boo-hoo-hoo~"
Xiao Juzi patted his head with a small hand.
’When I’m sad, Mommy pats my head just like this.’
Shu Chao Yu’s wounded spirit was instantly healed. Overcome with emotion, he hugged the little guy and started snuggling him furiously again.
Xiao Juzi struggled with all his might but couldn’t break free. In a desperate, high-pitched voice, he shouted, "Grand-uncle, I brought the Kunlun model home!"
"For real!?" Shu Chao Yu gave the little guy’s cheek a loud smack, leaving a red mark on his chubby face. "I thought your mom wouldn’t have wanted to splurge on it!"
’After all, one of those models isn’t cheap!’
"Hee hee~" Xiao Juzi giggled, trying to be mysterious. "You wait here, I’ll go get it!"
Shu Chao Yu let him go and played along, sitting down to wait for the carefully crafted surprise.
Xiao Juzi ran to his room and came back out, carrying the new model he had hidden earlier.
Shu Chao Yu was ecstatic. "So awesome, right!?"
"Totally~ awesome!"
The heroic image of the Kunlun Mecha charging across the battlefield was deeply etched into the little guy’s mind.
He flashed a V-sign at his grand-uncle, bragging, "I brought back two identical ones! Two of them, you hear!"
Shu Chao Yu was surprised. "Don’t tell me your mom bought one for you and one for me, too?"
’She’s really loaded!’
When he saw Xiao Juzi shake his head, Shu Chao Yu froze for a moment.
He also noticed the little guy’s expression had soured.
"Mommy bought this one," Xiao Juzi said, seeming reluctant to even mention it. "The other one was from that jerk."
Shu Chao Yu immediately realized who Xiao Juzi meant by "that jerk."
"Your dad."
Xiao Juzi scampered off to his room, and a moment later, he came back pushing a blue Mecha model.
Shu Chao Yu assumed he was getting the other new model, but he immediately noticed that the color wasn’t the azure blue of the new release.
It was... peacock blue!
He stared, stunned, for a full half-minute before snapping out of it. He yelled like a lunatic, absolutely ecstatic, "You won the limited edition!!!"
"Hee hee~" Xiao Juzi was bursting with pride. He puffed out his little chest and stressed to his grand-uncle, "I’m the one who won it, you know~"
"You little superstar, you’re amazing!" Shu Chao Yu hugged the limited edition model as if it were a priceless artifact. In that moment, all the misery of his day completely vanished.
Xiao Juzi then held up two fingers. "I won two of them!"
Shu Chao Yu froze again, then asked in disbelief, "You won two limited editions!?"
"Uh-huh~" ’Good boys don’t lie.’
Shu Chao Yu rushed back into the room but didn’t see any other Mecha models. "Where’d you hide them?"
Xiao Juzi said, "Mommy took the other two to the kitchen!"
Shu Chao Yu wailed as if someone had died. "How could she let something so sacred be defiled by cooking fumes!"
He immediately grabbed Xiao Juzi and ran to the kitchen to rescue the models.
When the two of them arrived, Shu Yao was using a wrench to adjust a model’s mechanical arm.
"Stop!"
Seeing the model being modified, Shu Chao Yu looked utterly devastated, his grief beyond words.
He pounded his chest, hating himself for not getting back sooner to prevent this tragedy!
"What... what the hell are you doing!?"
"Their designs were too stiff before." As she spoke, Shu Yao placed an empty plate on the mechanical arm. "Doesn’t this have a lot more personality now?"
Shu Chao Yu was completely dumbfounded!
’He couldn’t believe it... his dear sister had actually turned a priceless, limited-edition model into a tool for carrying plates!’
"For seven years... the Kunlun has fought in over three hundred battles! It’s never known defeat! It’s the War God of the Federation’s Mechas! And you... you’re making it carry your plates!?"
Shu Yao tightened her grip on the wrench. She looked at her crazed younger brother and threatened him with a deadpan expression, "If you spout any more nonsense, I’ll make all three hundred-plus models in your secret base carry plates for me."
Shu Chao Yu’s face immediately bloomed into a radiant smile. "As long as you’re happy, sis~"
’This isn’t wimping out,’ he told himself. ’This is called being smart.’
"You built a two-hundred-square-meter base in the basement just to collect these models. I don’t know whether to be impressed or... impressed," Shu Yao said. "You must have put in a lot of work when we moved, huh?"
"You bet!" Shu Chao Yu said. "In our old neighborhood, we didn’t have enough space at home, so I had to rent the apartment next door. It’s much better now. The whole family, all together in one place!"
Shu Yao’s mouth twitched. "The two that Xiao Juzi gave you, go ahead and add them to your collection."
Hearing this, Xiao Juzi’s face fell, as if he’d just lost his favorite toy.
Shu Yao lifted the modified new model off the counter and placed it in front of him.
The azure blue Mecha landed on the floor, walked slowly toward Xiao Juzi, and bowed. It then greeted the little boy in a mechanical, yet very polite voice:
"Hello, Master. I am Mini-Kunlun. It is a pleasure to become your friend. I look forward to our time together!"
The moment Mini-Kunlun spoke, Shu Chao Yu froze on the spot. He never imagined that, on top of her culinary expertise, Shu Yao also knew how to modify Mechas!
The unhappiness on Xiao Juzi’s face vanished, replaced by pure excitement as he danced around with joy.
"My Kunlun can talk!"
"Thank you, Mommy!"
"I love this present!"
Shu Chao Yu looked at her with newfound respect. "Yaoyao, with skills like this, your life in Zone 9 couldn’t have been that bad, right?"
Shu Yao gave him an enigmatic smile. "It wasn’t as good as you think, but it wasn’t as bad as you imagine, either."
Just as Shu Chao Yu was about to ask something else, Shu Xin walked over, her face grim.
"Sis, what’s wrong?"
"Lin Yaodong is here." Not only was Shu Xin’s expression unpleasant, but her voice was also noticeably hoarse. It was obvious she had just been arguing with him.
Shu Chao Yu’s expression darkened. "What’s he doing here again?"
Shu Xin looked toward Shu Yao. "Yaoyao, Lin Yaodong is here to see you."
