Chapter 55: Chapter 55: The One Who Doesn’t Want to Be Found Is You

After dropping Xiao Juzi off at the temporary registration office for Beastmen, Shu Yao watched the little one walk inside with unsteady yet determined steps. She let out a small sigh of relief, then headed to the other registration office, though she couldn’t help but glance back worriedly.

’It’s just registration. It shouldn’t take too long.’

She reassured herself.

Arriving at the temporary registration office for Purebreds, Shu Yao was stopped at the entrance by a Star Warrior.

"Ma’am, this way, please."

Shu Yao was a little confused.

’Isn’t the registration office right in front of me?’

But his tone was so official it left no room for doubt.

Shu Yao followed him to the area behind the registration office.

The Star Warrior escorted her to the hatch of a Flying Machine, said, "Please," then stood guard by the side of the door like a lifeless statue.

Looking at the open hatch, Shu Yao hesitated for a moment but still walked inside.

The inside of the machine was dark and cold, the air so biting it made one instinctively hold their breath. When she finally exhaled, she caught a faint, sweet scent, like tangerine peel. It was this captivating aroma that neutralized the cabin’s sharp chill.

The cabin of the Flying Machine was so quiet you could hear a pin drop. The silence was unnerving; it didn’t seem like anyone was inside.

Just as Shu Yao was wondering whether she should leave, she heard footsteps behind her.

The sound was light and quick, like leather boots tapping against the floor.

Before Shu Yao could turn around, someone wrapped their arms around her from behind. A brisk scent of cedar and cypress instantly enveloped her.

The man’s ragged breaths washed over her ear, and his cool, thin lips trailed fire across the nape of her neck.

The temperature in the cabin began to rise.

"Ah Bao?"

The moment the words left her lips, the man behind her froze.

Shu Yao tilted her head and met a pair of dark green eyes. She saw a flicker of displeasure in their profound depths.

Qin Shiwei was out on a mission today and hadn’t brought his disguise device, so he didn’t look like Ah Bao right now.

"If you’re unclear on who your lawful husband is, I don’t mind using some... special methods to remind you." The man’s expression chilled.

"Oh, come on. Whether you’re the Federation’s First Commander, Qin Shiwei, or Ah Bao, it’s still you, isn’t it?" Shu Yao coaxed, her eyes crinkling into a smile that held all the brightness of spring. "If you don’t like me calling you ’Ah Bao,’ I can call you darling instead. How does that sound?"

The man’s gaze darkened slightly, but he didn’t refuse. He suddenly bent his head and placed a kiss on the corner of her eye.

"Darling?" Shu Yao called out tentatively.

"Mm," Qin Shiwei replied calmly, but the glimmer in his eyes, as if lit by a warm sunbeam, betrayed his inner delight.

Shu Yao began toying with his exposed tail, wrapping it around her hand. "You’re pretty bold, darling, having someone lure me here. Aren’t you afraid someone will find out?"

Qin Shiwei glanced up at her, his expression unreadable, before burying his face in the crook of her neck. His lazy drawl was laced with a trace of reproach. "You’re the one who doesn’t want to be found out."

Shu Yao: "..." ’Fair enough.’

The man suddenly tightened his arms, as if wanting to hold her captive in his embrace forever.

"Yaoyao..." The man was like a ravenous beast eager for blood, a touch of scarlet coloring his dark green eyes.

Pain creased his brow as he forced his eyes shut.

Sensing something was wrong, Shu Yao tried to turn but found she couldn’t. She could only tilt her head to the side and ask with concern, "What’s wrong?"

"Don’t look!" The man’s voice was hoarse, like the low growl of a gravely wounded beast.

Against her back, she could feel his chest heaving more and more violently, his heart pounding like a battering ram.

From what Shu Yao knew about Beastmen, she could tell the man behind her was on the verge of losing control!

Beastification is a form of atavism, and in the interstellar era, only a portion of the population possesses a Beastial Bloodline. This bloodline grants Beastmen immense power and senses far sharper than ordinary people.

The emotions they experience—joy, anger, sorrow—are all amplified, making it easy for them to lose control. Once they lose control completely, they lose their sense of self, leaving only primal, bestial instincts in their minds.

That’s why, in the Interstellar Federation, Beastmen undergo special education from a young age, followed by rigorous military training upon reaching adulthood. There are even specialized suppressants to keep their emotions in check...

Shu Yao placed one palm against the man’s sweaty cheek, gently stroking his tense jawline.

She hummed a lullaby softly, gently rocking them both from side to side.

Her touch, her voice, and the fresh, sweet citrus scent emanating from her pulled the man back from the brink of losing control.

Noticing his breathing had steadied, Shu Yao asked softly, "Darling, are you feeling better now?"
