Chapter 627: Chapter 627 I Swear I Was Dropping the Teacup Gently, the Table Just Died

Thomas Mercer was a former hardened soldier.

For years, he had served his country on the front lines, fighting in brutal conflicts where death had become as ordinary as the rising sun.

He had witnessed villages reduced to rubble, comrades fall beside him, and countless horrors that few civilians could even imagine.

War had changed him.

It had stripped away much of the compassion he once possessed and replaced it with cold pragmatism.

Eventually, however, his military career came to an abrupt end.

Thomas and several members of his unit were dishonorably discharged after being convicted of committing serious crimes against civilians during the war.

It was a stain on his record that could never be erased.

Thomas wasn’t proud of what had happened.

But neither did he pretend to be an innocent man.

He understood that he had crossed a line long ago.

Since leaving the military, he had drifted deeper into the criminal underworld, where his combat experience quickly earned him a reputation as a capable and ruthless operative.

Violence had become the only language he truly understood.

Over the years, Thomas had faced all kinds of dangerous opponents.

Professional assassins. Mercenaries. Drug cartels. Armed militias.

He had even encountered people so cruel that they made demons seem merciful by comparison.

He believed nothing in the world could frighten him anymore.

Until today.

His eyes remained fixed on the enormous figure slowly approaching through the morgue.

The smiling fat man. Bullets had done nothing. Powerful punches had done nothing.

Even the fearless criminals surrounding him now looked ready to flee.

For the first time in many years... Thomas felt genuine fear.

A cold sensation crawled up his spine as instinct screamed at him that the being before him was something no ordinary human should ever confront.

One of the masked men from Thomas’s kidnapping team swallowed nervously before speaking.

"B-Boss..."

"What are we supposed to do?"

"That... that thing is a monster."

His voice trembled despite his efforts to remain composed.

Thomas remained silent for several seconds.

His military instincts rapidly analyzed the situation.

The conclusion was painfully obvious.

"We can’t fight it."

His tone was grim.

"Our weapons are useless."

He glanced toward the nearest exit.

"The only chance we have..."

"...is to get out of here."

Several members of his team nodded immediately.

For professional soldiers like them, there was no shame in retreating from an unwinnable battle.

A tactical withdrawal was better than dying for nothing.

Unfortunately for them...

They had yet to realize one terrifying fact.

There was no exit anymore.

"Get away!"

"No! Stay back!"

"Someone stop that monster!"

The once organized criminals completely lost their composure.

Only minutes ago they had been laughing, mocking Lin Feng, and threatening everyone in sight.

Now...

They were the ones screaming.

Big Fatty Zhang San continued walking forward at the same slow, leisurely pace, his enormous body swaying with each heavy step.

Step...

Step...

Step...

He wasn’t in a hurry. He didn’t need to be.

To him, the frightened men before him were like mice trapped inside a sealed room.

There was nowhere for them to run. Several desperate gunmen opened fire again.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

Muzzle flashes illuminated the gloomy morgue.

Bullets poured toward Zhang San from every direction.

Some struck his forehead. Others hit his chest.

Several landed directly on his enormous stomach.

When the smoke cleared...

Zhang San remained exactly where he had been.

Not a single wound appeared on his body.

The bullets simply fell harmlessly onto the floor with metallic clinks.

"...Impossible."

One thug stared blankly at the ground.

"My gun..."

"It... it didn’t even leave a mark."

Another criminal dropped his rifle altogether.

"He’s not human."

"No human can survive that."

Panic spread faster than wildfire.

Some grabbed steel chairs and swung them with all their strength.

Clang!

The chair bent in half.

Zhang San merely scratched his cheek.

"Hmm..."

"That almost felt nice."

The thug’s face turned pale.

Before he could retreat...

Smack!

Zhang San casually waved his hand.

The man spun through the air like a rag doll before crashing into a row of metal cabinets.

The cabinets collapsed with a thunderous crash.

Elsewhere, three more criminals rushed him with knives.

They attacked from different angles, hoping to overwhelm him through numbers.

Their blades struck his neck, back, and stomach.

Clink!

Clink!

Clink!

Every blade shattered.

The men stared at the broken knife handles still clutched in their hands.

"W-What..."

Zhang San looked down at the broken pieces.

"You boys should invest in better knives."

He grinned.

"My skin is worth more than those."

A second later...

Boom!

One slap.

Three bodies flew backward simultaneously.

Thomas Mercer watched everything unfold.

Years of military training told him exactly what this meant.

Their enemy wasn’t merely stronger.

He was operating on an entirely different level.

Every tactic he knew became meaningless.

"Fall back!" Thomas shouted.

"Spread out!"

"Look for another exit!"

The surviving men obeyed immediately.

Some sprinted toward doors.

Others searched windows.

A few even tried smashing through the walls with fire extinguishers and heavy furniture.

Nothing worked.

Every door led back into the same room.

Every hallway curved impossibly.

Every window revealed only endless darkness.

The morgue had become an inescapable maze.

One man fell to his knees.

"We’re trapped..."

Another slammed his fists against a wall until his knuckles bled.

"This can’t be real!"

Thomas clenched his jaw.

His instincts screamed that they had been pulled somewhere beyond his understanding.

No military training.

No battlefield experience.

No amount of courage could explain what was happening.

Meanwhile, Zhang San laughed happily.

"Hehehe..."

"I love watching mortals."

"You never give up."

"Even after realizing escape is impossible..."

"You still struggle."

"That’s admirable."

"But also..."

He cracked his knuckles.

"...completely pointless."

He disappeared.

To the criminals, it looked as though his enormous body had simply vanished.

"W-Where did he go?"

Before anyone could answer...

Bang!

A man was sent flying.

They were like helpless children before the fatty’s staggering strength.

Bang!

Another crashed through a row of steel tables.

Bang!
